I went during the coronavirus panic in SF so the restaurant was pretty empty with only one other party there. The food was really good, as was the service--but the environment was a little awkward and the service was a little too attentive. I'd definitely go again as I really enjoyed the food, especially since they can't control the panic around an outbreak.
Had dinner at The Cavalier recently with my daughter. It was overall an enjoyable experience, and it is a place I will go back to for dinner. The staff were very pleasant, although there were some delays in getting orders (the table next to ours, which ordered after we did, got their entries before we did). The ambiance is great, however, and we did not mind waiting. The food was good, albeit a little pricey, but it is San Francisco.

An excellent dining experience at 'The Cavalier.' The menu selections were varied; lots of options. Starter highlights: the quail eggs, brussels sprouts chips, and crab salad. Entrée portions are hearty; side dishes are definitely shareable. The flourless chocolate dessert is a must. Much enjoyed the quiet service and overall friendly atmosphere.
We were very happy with the dining area, which unlike the bar is a little more quite. The Scotch egg is great as is their Fish & Chips. Their Crab and Saffron Risotto was a bit salty but good. Great coffee and nice Pumpkin bread pudding.
This is a great spot. I think many of their dishes are a bit too smoky for my taste. But everything else is so great, I overlook the smokiness -- burgers, sprouts, etc.
Go-to brunch spot before our Sunday BSF matinee shows. Love it!
This was roughly the 10th time eating at Cavalier -and once again it didn’t
disappoint. Perfect place/location to dine before or after theater at either Golden Gate or Orpheum. Keep up the good work.
We had lunch before going to see an afternoon play. Love the ambiance, the decor, but felt that the waitresses weren’t so friendly. they need to smile and not be looking elsewhere while asking us how our meal tastes.
The Cavalier is a charming British style pub with great food. Yes, it has fish and chips, but so much more. We had the chicken and it was delicious - very crispy, moist and well seasoned. We went before the show at the Golden Gate Theater and it was very convenient for us.

The staff at Cavalier provide excellent customer service with a smile. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and of course the food.
There are 5 of us. Apps came out separately - 1 was completely finished and then the other came out. Then entrees 2 people were served, then we literally waited for at least 20 minutes maybe longer for the next 3. Food was mediocre at best. It pains me that I chose this restaurant. We’ve eaten at some very good restaurants in SF - this was not one of them. I’m happy to throw real money at a good dinner. We paid 300$ for a low caliber dinner. Actually I prefer McDonald’s to this restaurant. I would recommend going anywhere but here.
We had the steak tartare - good; marrow - mediocre; fish and chips - mediocre; hamburger - disappointing; 2 filet - sauce was overbearing and too sweet; and the scallop/shrimp risotto - poor.
Was entertaining out of town guests and was a little leery of the Valentines Day prix fixe menu, but we were looking for a convenient location that had an open table, so we reserved. The menu was limited but we all had something a little different. The amuse was a baked oyster and a warm deviled egg and both were very good. I had an old fashioned, which was just sweet enough and really good flavor. Shrimp appetizer and Stuffed sole and poulet vert entrees were also memorable. There were two desserts with ice cream that did not disappoint. Overall, everyone was totally satisfied and I was glad it worked out so well despite being Valentines Day. If a place can do this well on a holiday, think of how good it could be on a less crowded night. We will definitely be going back since it’s in our neighborhood.
I left this place more disappointed than I have been in long time with a dining experience. To start things off, I had made a reservation through Open table expecting to be sat in the dining area and instead was seated in the bar area. The server must have been a pot head because he forget our requests several times. The food was mediocre and my girlfriend’s steak was served cold. I do not recommend this place for anyone. The site and all of the listed reviews are falsely advertised. The value was horrible. I actually had buyers remorse after this experience. What a let down. My date for the evening was so disappointed. Never coming here and never will recommend this place to ANYONE!!!!!
Best meal I’ve had in a long time
Every time I come here it is fantastic. I've never ordered something j didn't like. Valentine's day prefix menu offered plenty of options and was just as good.
I highly recommend to everyone and will be back.
I was here for breakfast. The eggs and toast were just OK. The yogurt looked better.
I went to Cavalier for brunch and the overall experience was great. The decor is fun and full of character, the food was excellent and the service was courteous though not terribly fast that day. I had the prawns over polenta with roast shisito peppers and the flavor was spot on. Tasty without being overpowered by salt. Lamb hash with sweet potato latkes were also delish and dish was also nicely seasoned. The scotch egg was good; perfectly cooked in the yolk and the outside was crispy. The casing could have actually used a tiny bit more season but overall it was really enjoyable and paired nicely with the shrimp dish.
Fantastic as usual
The Cavalier is everything you could ask from a high end British gastropub. Cozy seating in the bar area (there are plenty of tables in the restaurant area if that is what your bag), lighting is mellow, drinks and wine list are solid, attentive service, and great simple food with a British slant using only the freshest ingredients. They even have their own oyster farm in Washington state, they were fabulous!

My wallet was stolen while at the restaurant - By the end of my dinner, there were multiple fraudulent activities on all my credit and debit cards. Thought this was a credible establishment so this experience with no recourse left me with a terrible impression.
Excellent service. Delicious Food. Really appreciate that the noise level was low enough to enjoy a dinner conversation. A very pleasant experience.

My favorite weekend brunch place in downtown SF. Get the Sautéed Gulf Shrimp which is served over the creamiest polenta! Yummy Bloody Marys, too.

this must be my 6th visit - usually outstanding and always a good spot for special occasions. This time - food was good, but we had 3 or 4 people serving us and it seemed like they didn't know what the others were doing. One would ask - did you need something else - I would respond that we already asked for the wine list. Also, it took about 20 minutes to get our pre-dinner cocktail, yet our food came ever so quickly once ordered. My guests from Belomnt hadn't been before - didn't seem impressed.
Breakfast here was really nice and quiet. Food was well executed and the host/bartender was super friendly.
