The Carter Sydney
I only say yes due to the gimmick side of the whole Jay Z and Beyoncé experience - food/drink names, few photos, signs around the place that say The Carter.
When I went the place was very empty with two other couples there and had one waitstaff/bartender on. On the menu it had listed the signature drink with ingredients - Drunk In Love cocktail, being Valentines I had ordered this but was told that the manager makes the drinks and since he wasn’t there, the only person behind the bar didn’t know the measurements for the ingredients so I wouldn’t be able to order it.
That was very disappointing.
The food that my partner and I had ordered was served in big portions but it was more of a quantity over quality. I really don’t rate the food there at all.
I think The Carter must make the money from the nightclub over the weekends as from what I saw I don’t think it’d survive.
Terrrible - ruined my birthday celebration. They had “run out” of chicken burgers and chicken and waffles at 7.10pm, despite being a “restaurant” at that time, completely empty and only opening at 5pm. Hot VIP booths without aircon, upstairs VIP bar not open meaning we had to walk downstairs each time we wanted to order a drink or any food, huge fights involving scary looking people engulfed the dance floor. All of us were kicked out before midnight and the venue kept my cake and all my presents. Avoid at all costs.
The Carter is the only club I go to ! Excellent happy hour selection, friendly staff, great atmosphere and the beats are amazing. Great for small to large groups looking to party a night away !! Oh and you HAVE to try the fried chicken and waffles !
I don’t write many reviews, but this place for a weekday lunch option is a disgrace. Two staff for the busiest Friday of the year. Not sure who owns this place but it’s not a lunch venue.
40 something group of friends celebrating birthday on Sat night. Loved the music and ambiance.
Food was nice, staff friendly and accomodating but my Aperol Spritz took a bit too long to prep and they forgot the orange wedges!! 🤨. Didn't feel old until the Gen Y's came in droves after 11pm. Time to leave about 12am when old school vibes turned to modern weird RnB?? And DJ kept cutting songs up way too much.
Overall great night. Thanks to staff too. Would def visit again but for older crowd suggest getting there at 7ish and exiting by midnight!
Great place, good people and excellent music.
One big issue is that downstairs get very hot and the aircon never seems to work at the dance fool. this really needs to get fixed as many people always complain of this. as the place is small when the dance fool gets packed its every hard to be at the place and because of this reason many people actually leave the venue as it gets too hot to stay down there. Hope this gets fixed so that people can stay and have a good night with the great music.
Thanks keep up the good work
Disspointed that after booking a table Many weeks in advance for a special birthday it was taken away from us to make a dance floor and then had no seating. A few of our guests required seating and we were left standing holding cheese boards and wine buckets with no where to put them..... what do we do now???? Not what we thought we booked. Meanwhile seating was reserved for others yet left empty.
I don’t normally leave reviews but this place was terrible - the staff really let this place down - wouldn’t make a cocktail we asked for as they didn’t want to and just looked and acted like they didn’t want to be there - our guacamole came without chips and they forgot a meal - didn’t even bother once coming over to our table or really doing anything apart from make us feel like we were a nucense
Overall great atmosphere, good music, good vibes! Would definite y come back! :) But the only thing is the toilet situation, two is just not enough.
- Fried chicken was soggy and the waffles were dead cold, totally different from what you see on their social media posts
- Was told they ran out of knives! We were the first customer there.
- Colleagues ordered Harlem thinking it was a burger but it was two pieces of soggy fried chicken sandwiches between some cheese and pickles
- Overall what a left down. Wished we would have gone somewhere else.
The place was disappointing, It wasn't as nice as I expected and as what I read on other reviews. The food was not that good, the "famous" chicken and waffles were disappointing and very expensive. I booked for 5 people and 4 of us showed up, the table we were seated at was WAY too small and didn't even have space for our food. Very squishy, music was trash, waiters were not the nice. Would NOT recommend, maybe if you were just looking to dance to trashy music and have expensive drinks, all in a small space, then go for gold.
The Bar scene had great vibes, the food was delicious and unique! Had the best birthday celebration, everyone enjoyed it. Will be back again!
Great location and outrageously delicious food. Great place for dinner, a drink and a dance. Service was a bit disappointing, one of our meals was missing and took a long time to get replaced, but the bar staff and the hostess were very helpful and very apologetic. will definitely be back!
Food was amazing
Fantastic venue to get together with friends and enjoy a delicious meal while listening to RnB. Upon entering the Carter , it exuded a inviting and relaxing atmosphere and there was plenty of drawings on the walls that appear to be some of RnB's biggest stars to look at. I ordered the Brooklyn burger which was well priced, freshly delivered and very tasty along with another dish that consisted of Mac'n'Cheese on top of chips which was delicious as well but couldn't finish it as it was quite a generous serving. Only thing that cost this place a 5star rating in my books is the security guards there. Constantly felt like I was being watched and every time I went to the bathroom with no guard in sight, I would walk out to see a security guard standing there waiting. Some could say that's a good thing but personally I couldn't truly relax feeling like I was constantly being watched. Other than that, highly recommend this place!
Great night out to celebrate our daughters 18th birthday. Vibe was great, food was excellent. Defs go there again. Staff were amazing. No complaints
Delicious food and generous servings! Love the decor and murals, as well as the amazing hip hop vibe and Carter inspiration!
We made a reservation for a hens party. It was the perfect venue, we had a wonderful time.
There was one table which could comfortably seat 6 people for a group of 12. The reservation assumes seated +standing so something to keep in mind when booking.
Otherwise, great American cuisine, helpful staff and awesome music. What a night we had!
Venue was great, music was awesome. Drinks during happy hour was not very clear and the same drink cost different amounts depending on who you ordered from.
The staff were extremely helpful on the night. We were initially seated in a small table and they advised that this was the best that they could do as the place was fully booked. We were a bit disappointed considering we booked a week in advance. A few minutes later, they returned and advised us that they could move us to a bigger table (we were a group of 12). Thank you for being flexible and accommodating on the night. Will definitely be coming back for the food!
First time visiting The Carter. Love love loved the music, delicious cocktails, food portions were great and the overall vibe was 👌🏽👌🏽 Will definitely be a first choice when going out!
Only slight downside was that waiting time to get served at the bar was quite long each time we wanted to order food or drinks.
One of the best birthdays i have had by far. Thank you to the team at the Carter for making the night so amazing! Was made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in! Will definitetly be back!
I booked tables there for my birthday in June and for my sister's Hen's party this long weekend. Our spot was reserved even when the club was busy at 11pm and the lovely lady who looked after the guest list allowed me to bring more people in at a discounted price. Always great music and ridiculous fun whenever I've been to the Carter! X
Monique was very gracious in helping and accommodating us find a table for our work event and my birthday but the reservation on OpenTable did not actually register with them and so although it showed availabilities they didn't actually have any!
Amazing food, venue, music & service. Will definitely be back! We ordered the honey zaatar haloumi, fattoush, chicken wings, fries, hush puppies and the tacos - 10/10 !!
The DJ and music played on Friday were/was so good and the music transitions were fire. Food was great and good value. Really liked how The Carter levels were set up: bottom was dance floor, middle was food, drinks and dancing and top was chill. Maybe before 9:30 PM on Fridays the music could be just a tiny bit lower for some conversations to be heard and then crank up the volume after 9:30PM. Overall, new favorite place!
I was there last Friday with work friends. I'm sorry to say that the food was actually disgusting. I'm not sure why you felt the need to dye the hamburger bun and hot dog bun pink. The hot dog bun was freezing cold when it came out. The chicken wings were sweet and not spicy, the smell nearly made me sick. The fries sounded amazing but really all they are are McDonald's chips with cheap melted cheesey sauce and a bit of bacon thrown on top. I doubt any of the food is made fresh. Definitely won't be recommending anyone I know to go here to eat. The music was good.
Got the fried chicken and waffles sharing plate and the chicken wings. The fried chicken was tasty with good spice and tenderness. The sauce and maple syrup compliment the chicken well, whilst the waffle wasn't anything special, it was fluffy and held its texture well. The chicken wings were nice and tender, however the sauce/glaze was too sweet for my liking. I would prefer a more spicy or buffalo style glaze.
Great food drinks and crowd!! Great food drinks and crowd!!
We went for lunch on a Wednesday and there were only five other people in the restaurant. The service was non-existent and the food menu was very poor. This is not a great lunch time destination.
Food portions were generous and delicious! Great value for the location and a beautiful venue. Toilets were a bit hard to find.
The last time I ordered the Men don't cry burger and the meat had a lot of hard bits in it. I didn't bother complaining and left the burger and ate chips.
Pity as times prior when I had kafta burger this was perfect.
We had birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
We are going back for another lunch this wed.
Wanted to try this after seeing it recommended on Weekend Sydney website. Thursday night arrived about 6pm to be told they had "run out of" the Pinot Noir I wanted to order and the only other pinot they had was $70 per bottle. Asked if this could be bought by the glass and told no. Only had one other red in stock. Pretty poor. This could be a great place - take a leaf out of Justin Hemmes' venues guys! Staff although friendly served us food which obviously needed knives and forks but didn't bother bringing any to the table. Nor serviettes. Also two girls behind the bar looked like they hadn't washed or brushed their hair for a week (sorry but seriously, if you're going to work in a trendy city bar then you need to make a bit of an effort!). Need to lift your game as this is a bit out of the way being in O'Connell Street. Probably wouldn't go back in a hurry as there's plenty of other competition out there.
Overall we had a great experience at the Carter and would go back. The menu (we had the soul food option) was great for sharing and really yummy food. The cocktails were good too although it would be better if they were available all night (they stop serving them by 10). The service was generally good with polite and helpful staff although had a bit of confusion with receiving our food. The space turns into a club at 10pm which is fun but quite crowded and not much ventilation as it's a smaller area. The music is great but Dj-ing could be better in terms of transitioning between songs.
The only good thing about The Carter was the music. Everything else was pretty bland and boring. The drinks were alright, food was very, very average and service was quite poor.
Great customer service. Friendly staff. Great music. Above average food but great value!
It was amazing I had wonderful time,it was my farewell drinks thanks to all the staff especially nick and alvin did a great job. It was 30 of us and all of us had a great time. Great food, great atmosphere definitely recommended.
