Great get-together with a group of friends. Very quiet when we attended on a Saturday lunchtime but that wasn't a bad thing. Tasty food and pleasant environment. Quick service in general. Good value for a lunch menu at a hotel although we were a little surprised by the steep price of the teas.

the staff were very friendly, efficient and attentive. The brasserie is stark and unwelcoming. The food was lovely.

I stupidly booked this for me and my friend due to its proximity to our location and thinking 3/5 would do for a modest dinner at the end of the day as we were hungry. Big mistake - whilst touted as a brasserie, the food was more in line with the burgers, steaks and salads served in weatherspoons but way below the standard. One of the few more decent looking dishes on the menu was the lamp chops, it was too fatty and greasy and the potato too solid, for my always starving friend, to finish. The avocado and pancetta salad was dire - firstly, it contained normal bacon, not pancetta and secondly, the lot was so drowned in balsamic vinegar, that all I could taste was soggy, slimy leaves. Although the service was ok, the ambience was dire. The brasserie looks like a trendy restaurant, as you can see on the website, but it looks just about empty, most of the time. When you walk into a restaurant on a Friday evening and its empty albeit for one table, you feel rather reluctant to actually admit you have a reservation. it had the feel of a huge empty atrium you might find in a hotel lobby or possibly airport atrium. The look of the place just didn't work, the food was dire and seemed like they'd tried to be trendy according to pub menus from 10 years ago and cater for the nearby tourist market but overall it was awful and I'm embarrassed to have found it on open table and taken my friend there, assuming it would be quite nice.

When we arrived our booking had not been made although we'd had a confirmation email from Opentable. I dont know if this was the fault of Opentable or the restaurant. Fortunately there were plenty of tables available so it was not a problem. The restaurant is spacious and airy. There was quite a buzzy atmosphere with plenty of diners, it was of course a Saturday night. The waiting staff were polite and courteous but think they needed a few more as they seemed to be dashing around and getting a bit flustered. The food was really good, nice and straight-forward and not too fancy. I started with smoked salmon which was really good. My main of chicken breast in red wine was lovely. For dessert I had the apple tarte tatin which was delicious. The wine is a bit pricey but good choice of wines. Price wise it's not too bad for a central London hotel. Would definitely return.

Food was cold and soggy, roast potatoes were wet and Yorkshire pudding was tough. Variety was very poor and starters were very small. Would not return, a poor Sunday lunch.

I needed a restaurant close to marble Arch for a business lunch for three and couldnt have got much closer than the Cumberland, its almost part of the Underground station. The Brasserie is just off the cavernous & imposing reception area and .there were plenty of people sitting having teas & coffees. However, the restaurant was empty and remained so during our lunch (13.00 - 14.30). Waiters were very attentive, food was reasonable quality and well presented, but nothing out of the ordinary. We certainly had our privacy but there was little atmosphere. In summary, it was a useful venue but lacks customers on a lunchtime!

I took my mother, aunty and grandma here for a Mother's day carvery lunch. I have dined here before for dinner, but this time was different. There was along queue to eat, when we finally got to the front of the line, only meat was available. We had to wait 10 minutes for vegetables and potatoes; by the time it arrived our meat was freezing. We did have the option to collect more meat; but yet again another queue. When we finally went for dessert most had gone and we were told they would not be stocking up. To be fair a waiter did bring out 4 eclairs from the kitchen to say sorry. We were all rather disappointed. Especially as the previous occasions I've dined here, the service and food has been wonderful;.

The current carvery is in no way as good as the Best Bloody Mary Sunday lunch which used to be on offer at the Cumberland. The selection now is more limited, more expensive and not as good. In fact I asked a waitress why it had changed to the present system, she said that customers had asked for a carvery. My lamb was very thickly sliced, too pink for my liking and very tough, though the vegetable accompaniments, particularly the cauliflower cheese, were delicious. Starters were brought to the table by the waiter and desserts on a trolley. All in all,the experience was a bit disappointing and I would not return unless the previous offer was reinstated.

Pleasant food and very friendly helpful staff. Restaurant lighting quite dim but we were able to get a table near the kitchen which was brighter. Able to linger without being hurried along. Special menu well priced with a nice house wine and we would definately go again.

Having eaten at the brasserie before and enjoyed it - I was pleased to find availability on NYE. We ate early evening (7:30) but there was still a good number of diners and a good atmosphere. The food was very good, the service ok and it came to £45 a head for 2 courses and drinks (including cocktails) so pretty good value.
