The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing
prepared with lemon, olive oil, sea salt and pepper, served with house-made mashed potatoes, and today's seasonal vegetables
spicy aioli and diablo sauce
Pan Seared Scallops
Roasted butternut squash risotto, pancetta, Tuscan kale, 10yr aged balsamic
Scallops were perfectly cooked and served on a bed of risotto that was a little under done. Mustard sauce served with the crab cakes was very good but scarce. Service was somewhat rushed at first with salads arriving just after cocktails were served and entrees arrived before salads were half finished. It settled down after entrees were sent back to kitchen. Manager apologized. Have dined here before and will again.
The food is really really good here but the portions are small. Get some soup and two or three appetizers and you’ll be all set.
Very polite service, had an amazing time ans great food. Would highly recommend to anyone I know!
Stood in line 30 minutes for an omelette and was given no other option though there were 8 servers with their hands on their pockets.
Food was fantastic, service was impeccable, and the overall mood was relaxing. We made a reservation and sat right down.
Great dining experience last night with my husband. Thank you Boathouse for honoring our seating request. Delicious 12 oz. NY Strip steak. Awesome char on the steak, thank you chef for making it taste extra special! We enjoyed so much, next visit, we would like to order a “double cut” of this steak if possible... is this something we can pre-order with the executive chef? Our waitress asked and said to call to get this order fulfilled (it was very busy kitchen last night, which we understood and appreciated her inquiring).
Service was excellent and efficient. Gorgeous views of Richmond. Highly recommend. We will definitely be returning guests.
Great location and view of the city in the night sky. Lots of potential, but found food and service to be rather mediocre. Decent, but not worth the price.
Food service and the meal were excellent. Unfortunately there was a loud drunk at the bar that took away from the experience. We have been there many time and have always enjoyed our experience.
It was amazing i will go back so i can sit outside
I had a girlfriend meet me for my birthday dinner. It was a wonderful dinner and experience.
Patate al tartufo senza gusto, pesce rovinato ricoperto di pepe
The food and service was awesome! I can’t wait to go back.
Great service by Omar
Server had issues deciding the check for two couples.
Excellent food and service with great views. Staff was very friendly.
The only thing that made me happy about this experience is that the calamari was amazing and melt in your mouth. But the drinks were absolutely horrible and it tasted like barely the minimum amount of alcohol was put in the cup, and the main course was atrocious. I'm not sure what the hype was, but I expected so much better. My food was cold when I got it, I needed a chainsaw to get through my chicken, the cheese on top was cold and a solid piece, I could barely find any lump crab on my chicken, the asparagus was tasteless and my friend's meal was just as bad. Her lobster tail was sad...the meat was all shriveled in the shell. And the steak was only ok. Her fingerling potatoes tasted like there was NOTHING on them and they were very undercooked. For a $300 meal, you would think that the food and drinks would be amazing, but it missed the mark completely!!
We got old-fashions at the bar. VERY pricey & very little bourbon! For $15 a cocktail, I expect a superb cocktail. This was something you would get at Applebee’s. Food was good but overpriced. Service was inattentive. Had to ask for everything. Beautiful location & ambiance. First time at The Boathouse & probably my last.
On our way to Fl from Boston, we always look forward to stopping here. They have a great happy hour...$3.00 off any wine. ..not just a house wine! Ambience is great! The food is excellent and prices are reasonable.
Usually our monthly dinner at Rocketts Boathouse goes off without a hitch but this meal was sub par. My wife and I like to share their Chilled Seafood Platter ($79) and 2 salads. This time around the 6 oysters were very small to almost not being there, the melted butter for the lobster was only nuked and not placed onto it's usual candle heater (dip cold lobster into cooling butter and it gets cold & greasy), the table next to us did get the candle butter heater. We had to ask for the shell waste bowl, plus they forgot to give us each the usual warm/wet hand towels to clean up at the end. Generally these problems don't exist. We were waited on by a trainee that evening (not her fault) who was being supervised by someone who didn't appear to care. It wasn't even busy (5pm). Maybe it was an off night but at the very least they really need to select better oysters at that price.
Excellent dining experience with my husband for a belated Valentine’s Day dinner. Request to be by glass windows was honored and we had a romantic dinning night. Food was delicious. My husband especially liked the char on the NY Strip steak. We enjoyed shrimp app, Caesar salad and the steak. Highly recommend. Overall great dining experience, great service and romantic setting. Thanks Boathouse for making it a special night out for us!
The tenderloin was tough; oysters overcooked; very noisy.
Generous portions for appetizers, wine by the glass was too expensive and the Caesar salad was not fresh. Service and atmosphere were very nice.
Good was very good. Our waiter went the extra mile to get me GF croutons made.
Decided on the Boathouse for a business meal knowing we had VP’s coming into town from out of state. Boathouse is the iconic place to take out-of-towners! We had a server who was training a new one and they both were VERY kind, attentive, and most importantly, he knew the menu forwards and backwards. It was actually impressive. But that was the highlight of the evening. It was a Tuesday evening so not busy at all and the place was not even half full. We ordered a round of drinks: bottle and draft beer, a cosmo, bourbon neat, vodka with a twist of lemon, and an old fashion. After 30 minutes, we finally got the first round and the old fashioned came out pink. Like fruit punch! So we sent it back and they were accommodating and that person switched to tequila on the rocks. We ordered apps and they came out so fast! But our dinner meals easily took an hour to receive and the drinks were taking longer and longer to get to us. We ordered a bottle of red for dinner...they didn’t have it in house. They suggested a replacement red...they didn’t have it again. So they came back with a nicer red. Which was helpful. The food was eh. Chicken was very dry and mashed potatoes were very salty and I love salt! The rest of the table liked the steak and salmon so as long as the big bosses were happy, we are ok with the dry chicken on our end. We were there for almost 3.5 hours with 6 people with so much time just sitting and waiting. Overall, I’ve never had a good experience when it comes to service but our servers were great. They can’t help if the bartender was behind and the food was mediocre. So unfortunately, I will not suggest it for future business meals. But the patio is still one of the best ones in the city! Everyone was lovely though!
Great all around!
Only problem experienced was that the male waiter did not provide cream, sugar. and a spoon for the coffee. After asking for those essential items to enjoy the beverage, he still forgot the spoon. My friend used his knife instead!
The staff at the waffle and omelet station were so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating! We felt like they should have gotten part of our waiter’s tip!
The atmosphere is amazing. Huge windows over looking the water with a ton of natural light. Recommend making reservations. The service is on point and food for brunch was delicious.
We got married at the boathouse 11/10/2018 and we moved away from RVA a month later. We make a point to have dinner or brunch when we come back to town. Always an amazing time at such a special place. 10/10 every time. We can’t get enough of your amazing food!
Delicious food, friendly waiter and gorgeous view! Really nice ambience.
Very average all around. I had the Eggs Diablos for breakfast, they were barely warm. The grits had flavor, but also barely warm. Looking around the ta me, little was inspiring. If not for the view, don’t know if I’d come back.
The wait staff wasn’t terribly attentive given the ambiance and the price. Beautiful views and location. Food was presented well but overall wasn’t worth the price.
This is my second time here and I enjoy myself every time. Great place and great staff.
This restaurant was amazing! Me and my boyfriend enjoyed it and will be coming back!
Great crab cakes and good seafood overall.
Great place. Great view overlooking James River and Downtown Richmond. Awesome food and ambiance. Valet parking available. Street parking available, but fills up.
The view and staff is great. The food is alright. There was no Salt Or pepper on the table.
My wife and I enjoyed lunch with out of town guests. The server gave us time to catch up after a long absence, and was very courteous when serving us. The truffle fries, spinach salad, crab sandwich, and shrimp were excellent. The view is always nice, day and night. All in all, it was a special occasion.
This was the worst experience at a restaurant in Richmond since moving here. The food choices weren't good and were grossly overpriced. There was no value in what we got and certainly wasn't worth $150! I wanted to walk out without paying because we waited an hour and a half to be seated (our reservation was for 9:30 pm). The reservation stated that we would enjoy live music but there was only piped in music. This was a real disappointment!!!
I had a reservation and still waited more than a hour to be seated. Sad situation, my wife, daughter and daughter's boyfriend drove 96 miles to have dinner with me. We stood up in the lobby for over a hour waiting to be seated. There was no seating in the lobby. Then the service was so slow, the manager had to start waiting table. My rock fish was over cooked (hard), my daughters steak was raw. My wife didn't eat her food. The only food I enjoyed was the bread and lemonade. And I was freezing also. As I looked around, most people were sitting around with their coats on. I had to keep my hat on to try to keep some heat in. It was a bad situation. I was embarrassed for taking my wife and daughter to Boathouse. My daughter's boyfriend did find humor. He laughed when we received our soup without utensils. It took us about 10 minutes to get utensils. I paid my bill in full and left a $50 tip. And did not complain to management. It would be hard for me to return to Boathouse. I can't throw away $400 on a meal and not enjoy something.
I loved the live band. Loved the ambiance. Our server was very understanding about questions we had and answered them great. One thing I didn’t like is how I still had to pay the full price for the Valentine’s Day special. Especially since my date and I are under 21 and it offered adult beverages included in the plan. If it didn’t include the alcoholic beverages to the plan for underage kids then it would have a whole lot better.
