Food and service was exceptional. Contactless ordering is seamless and you can actually pace your meal by ordering in stages. Staff was very attentive.
Love coming here, the new ordering system is a little confusing.
The worst dining experience I have ever had. They use a very frustrating online food ordering system that is essentially like picking food up at a counter. Except there is a 20 % tip included. No plates were cleared… there was no service. I’d rather save money and go somewhere that is casual and charges appropriately.
I love the boathouse & use to work for Kevin, the owner at Sunday's before he changed it to the boathouse. We go several times a year & just love it. Unfortunately, Our steaks were burnt on top so much that it left a burnt taste in our mouth. One of meals didn't come out with the rest of the meals. We had to wait 10 mins to locate our server even though we pushed the button to let him know. We were close to finish before the meal came out. We've eaten there before and had a wonderful experience. This time was an off day.
We enjoyed ourselves! It took a second to figure out the ordering process, but once we did, it made sense. We had one item served well before all the others (although ordered at the same time), which was awkward, but everything was delicious.
The food was good; just wish I had been aware that only the Brunch menu was available at 1:30. The server we had was not very attentive and spent a lot of time engaged in random conversation at other tables rather than responding to the beep on his band.
Boathouse at Rockett’s Landing is by far the best dining experience I’ve had! Richard, our waiter, was absolutely perfect. He ensured our experience was unforgettable. The views of the river were amazing as well! We will definitely be going back!
The whole experience was the worst. The amount of money that they want for the food SUCKS. We waited over TWO HOURS for food. There were people that came in after us that got their food before we did. The waiter sucked, wasn’t any kind of help with the food situation. I wish I could get my money back. I’m never going back there ever again and I don’t recommend ANYONE going there.
The food was delicious. Our server was wonderful. The view was fabulous. Our one (major) complaint was the ordering system. Didn't like it AT ALL. I completely realize most restaurants during and post-pandemic have adapted a menu system, wherein you use your phone to pull up the menu to view it. Most restaurants and that includes high end establishments, still have servers that take your order. We had out of town guests from CA and they had never seen a system such as the Boathouse uses, either. You have to pull up the menu, if there are special requests, you have to write them in a text box...you have to order the salads first if you want them to arrive to your table first and then go back online and order your entrees at a later time, etc, because if you don't, everything comes out at the same time. Our salads arrived before our drinks, even though we ordered the drinks at the same time as our salads. There is a button you push if you'd like your server to come over (didn't care for that system, either). We felt like we were bothering him, even though he couldn't have been nicer. The whole process was tedious, not user friendly, etc. Then, we wanted to split the check and we had to call our server over, who then took our credit cards, because there was not a way to do that on the phone menu/system. Otherwise, the experience was great but that system was a HUGE turnoff for myself and my guests and we will probably not return to this restaurant, sadly, until they do away with that crazy ordering system because it was not ideal and too tedious.
Nice venue overlooking the James River. Unfortunately, Boathouse has a ridiculous ordering system, all online. Started using and was attempting to select "cocktails" from the menu, the dinner menu showed up. The waiter came over and got the same result. Apparently, to get separate checks you need to use separate phones and to coordinate getting food and drinks with the people you are with, everyone has to submit their order at the same time or else drinks/food etc. comes at different times. Oh and the added benefit is that when drinks or food arrive, none of the servers know who ordered what. And forget about being able to specify anything special on your order. In the end we ordered thru the waiter in the traditional way. Food was excellent. Online ordering a miss.
The Boathouse is a great place for lunch, dinner and special occasions. The food is delicious, the service is great and the staff is friendly
Ordering on your phone is a bummer. Having to be on your phone at a dinner celebration was not ideal
It was a Great experience as usual.
The filet mignon is always perfect love the asparagus and mashed potatoes
Celebrated my sister’s birthday
Amazing food and service. Do yourself a favor and go!
Great food and great service. We reserved an outside table for the river and downtown view. Every table except ours had an umbrella for shade. They were unable to get us a different table or an umbrella. No one was sitting at the other tables but they were “reserved”. (They were still empty when we left an hour and a half later.) It would be nice to have more umbrella’s out there or some fans. Otherwise everything was great. I like the new contact less/online ordering system.
Very frustrated with ordering off of the phone. No personal service made for a poor experience.
Service was great view was amazing great place overall
This is a very nice place to eat, but can be expensive. The contact-less ordering system isn't the best and we did a combination of ordering from the system and from the server. Servers are good, ambience is nice. The only nitpick I have is that we went on a Sunday and they were not serving the full menu. There were enough good things to eat though even if you don't like brunch items.
20% tip total disagree with and tax is calculated after the tip so bill was $20 more and we done all the work ordering which was not efficient.. spent more time ordering than we did eating the small portions. Friendly environment pleasant staff. Would not go back on Sunday with limited Brunch choices until 3pm. Steak and egg overpriced.
Food was great, but could have been a little hotter.
Excellent experience. My only complaint is that the electronic ordering process is ridiculously complicated. I don't see how either the customer or the restaurant benefits.
Beautiful outdoor dining, food was delicious, service was personal & accommodating!
Food was awesome, service was great! Fun atmosphere.
It's an okay but not great place for lunch with friends. Lovely outdoor views but the inside is nice too. Unfortunately, we were initially given dirty plates and utensils, but the wait staff was quick to replace them. Also the water vessel for the table had stuff in it (pieces of cork, perhaps?). The staff was great and very responsive to the button on the table and ordering food via the Toast app was super easy. The seafood Mac and cheese was excellent, however, the "hot" chicken sandwich was very bland. One of my friends thought we were given a plain one by accident. Tacos were good. Mussels could've been fresher. Overall, there's something for everyone on the menu here but not everything is a knockout either
It was good overall, but parking is detrimental to selecting that location as a prime venue
The waitress never came to check on my table until close to time of me leaving, French where not hot!
It’s not what we expected, which is an upscale seafood restaurant. where we settled for fish & chips and a crab cake sandwich at upscale prices. The service could’ve been better, especially because it’s a DIY ordering process done by your smart phone.
We paid for the experience dine in with a view. However it stormed that day. I called to make sure what could be arranged. They said I could be accommodated inside. But that they couldn’t refund the experience fee or change it to another day.
I completely understand that it was unpredictable, but at the same time I paid for an extra experience and it was completely out of my hands. Restaurant was not busy.
Do not think I will be returning.
Highly recommend the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing!
Was not checked on, water was taken never came back with more water, hard to get to a waiter.
This was not the experience I have come to expect from the Boathouse, and I have been several times over the years. The food was lackluster at best (a huge change from years past), the ordering method was cumbersome and really cheapened the hole experience, and the ambiace was akin to being in a beer hall. Not worth what I paid and I would highly suggest chosing another place if you are looking for a special evening.
Unless you like being focused on your phone , and trying to coordinate everyone pushing Order Now, at the same time, for apps, entrees, desserts etc . It’s annoying, and impersonal.
We had an 8pm reservation and were seated promptly. They explained the touch-less ordering app. Because you will not have a waiter! Also, if your phone is dying this app is awful. We ordered drinks from it after having to put in your credit card info. Drinks took 10-15 minutes to arrive. Two water cups for three people and we had to wave our arms in front of the “community wait staff” to get another cup and again to get more water. Then you order your food on the “app” and about 40 minutes later, another new person delivers it. Not once did anyone check to see if we needed anything! The best part is the automatic 20% “service fee” included for nonexistent service. I normally tip more, but 20 percent of a $200 dollar meal for two people to bring two drinks and three meals was robbery. Food was good, but I’ve had better service at a gas station. I did enjoy the Boathouse Pre-Covid, but not with the system they use now. Frustrating order system, awful nonexistent service and a wicked “20 % service fee” for no service. Then when you pay your bill on the “app” they want to see if you would like to tip 20-35% more tip. Stay away if you like to enjoy your time and like service!
Great night. Great views. Great friends
