Great service and great food. Undersized portions for me but it was perfect for the wife.
the decibel level was extremely high! That is not an option in your review. Energetic, yes; is a positive, excessively loud is a negative.
My poached eggs the best part of brunch were hard and over cooked. Very disappointed. Went last week too and waitress forgot one of the items. So 2 weeks in a row underwhelming
Sad to write this review because I've been coming to the Boathouse for years at multiple locations. We were there to celebrate my mothers bday, we came for Sunday Brunch. Our waitress had no personality and quite frankly very rude. I ordered a medium well steak that came out bloody I brought this to her attention and she snatches the plate out of my hand mid sentence and walks away. I get a second steak which was still equally bloody but I just dealt with it. She then starts to take away my brothers dirty plate and drops the fork on him with no remorse all while holding dirty plates an inch from my face. I don't know if she was having a bad day or just didn't want to be serving us. Either way it'll most likely be the last time we dine there.
Server was great
Thank you for an awesome night. My friend really enjoyed her birthday dinner!
We had a great time everyone was great. Loved the food.
It is just too noisy to have a nice conversation with the other people at the table.
Best seafood in Richmond
The view would be really great, but after dark, there's no lighting in the area, so ... nothing there. A minor note was that although the temperature was in the 30s and they had a big gas fireplace near our table (indoors, thus minor, as in ambiance could have been better), it wasn't working. Waiter was excellent--knew the menu, made good recommendations. Appetizers were large, entrees a bit small, and then back to too much food for dessert. Interesting combination--and I have never had de-caf served in a French press. All-in-all, it's probably a great place for anytime you can see the riverfront, or if you want to celebrate. The space is open, and there were lots of large (and one or two loud) groups there.
A bit noisy, not as many interesting or unique seafood creations as would have expected! Only 1 crab enter!
You definitely need a convenient parking lot.
Service should have been exceptional But the service was fair. It started off good but as the evening wore on the service got worse and worse. After our salad course, our waiter seemed to not remember our order and then would not give us a check so we could clear the table for additional guests that were waiting to be seated. He seemed not to be able to handle more than three tables at a time. So that is why I am assuming he wanted us to stay so he did not have to wait on any more clients. We ended up just leaving money on the table to cover our order. We absolutely hated to do this. I know our evening costed us over one hundred and ten dollars, and so for that amount of money we expected better (a lot better).
The food was good.
This is our favorite place to share Sunday brunch with visiting relatives and out of town guests. We had a lovely view of the river, an excellent server, and delicious food all around.
Our service was very good and food arrived quickly, almost too quick! I really liked my cocktail (maple blood peach whiskey sour), but husband's (sea ghost) was just ok and it was $15. Not a good crabcake, but the oysters were very good. The place is LOUD!! Music was loud but people had to speak loudly to overcome this overhead music. We were just visiting Richmond and wanted to see this area which was warehouses, etc when we lived there many years ago.
Great food but pricey.
Excellent service and food! The view was amazing. Just wish the music was a lilttle lower was yo hard to talk a conversation.
The sauces and sides and choices are all special and delicious
Birthday celebration. Outstanding as always. One of our favorites. Bread pudding is as good as New Orleans
The noise was a little more than we wanted. Overall a great brunch.
Enjoyed the brunch. The roasted oysters were great, the omelet station good, not great.
Could have been the resteraunt week meal but it seems like they skimped on all the non enter portions of the meal. Potato’s undercooked veggies just boiled and bland etc.
Although there were a few vegetarian options, at least one vegan option would be nice.
Great time and service. Will be back for sure.
Great view of the Richmond skyline!
Our waitress was very friendly, and ready with suggestions and answers to all questions. The mixed drink I had was well made. We each had the filet and lobster, which was cooked perfectly, fresh, and full of flavor. For desert, we split a bread pudding. It was definitely the highlight of the meal! It was amazing!
We really enjoyed our first visit to the Boathouse!
Glad to finally have an opportunity to dine at the Boathouse, very enjoyable dinner and great atmosphere!
Overall, we enjoyed our food. However, the waiter forgot our appetizer (that we were to share with table) and then tried to deliver 5 minutes AFTER our dinner had been served. Room/view is great but we had table near the front of the restaurant/kitchen ... so it was lost on us. Food was good - we will give it another try, maybe it was just an off night.
Great place to eat service was excellent. Will visit again soon. Food was amazing and I would recommend the black cherry mojito.
Good place to take someone for a special occasion. On the pricey side but its what you should expect from quality service to food. Has a great view from the balcony but it was cold and raining when I went so didn't get to enjoy that part. Good atmosphere in terms of lighting and noise level. Would recommend it at least once.
Having made a reservation, when we arrived we were shown to a booth in the corner with the best view. I would have been happy just to have had tuna sandwich for that view. My party had three different entrees all were delicious. My bloody mary was "over vodkased" as I was "out" within 20 minutes and that is my fault as I forgot to say go light on the vodka.
We had a great night.
My visit to the Boathouse was good, it would have been perfect had it not been for my server. Her i dont care attitude was just awful, she greeted us, took our order and thats it, she never followed up to make sure we were ok or needed anything, each time we had to flag her down. if im not mistaken her name was Allison.
Too loud. Service was Fair.
We usually come here for special occasions, birthdays and anniversaries. The food is always great especially the Zookie. The only thing I would change is the noise level. It is difficlut to carry on a conversation without constantly asking " what did you say?"
Fantastic food! The steak was incredible!
Great place to bring friends and have a drink on the water.
Excellent service, great wine list, albeit small, and exquisite cuisine.
My family had a great time. Yummy food! Wonderful service!
The food was excellent and so was the service. We didn't wait long for the appetizers or drinks and we were consistently asked if we needed anything.
The location was a pleasant surprise as it overlooks the James River, however, overall the food was average at best. I ordered the broiled sampler and while the shrimp and scallops were tasty their signature crab cakes were so overloaded with filling it had the texture of bread pudding and I literally was digging to find the crabmeat. The asparagus looked and tasted like I was a few days old and the mashed potatoes were cold and tasted like leftovers from the bottom of the pot. Sadly it reminded me of a Red Lobster with a nice view with very good service. No reason to travel out of downtown for this disappointing experience!
Beautiful location. Kind of out of it but great view up the river and into the city. Great experience but the food was nothing special. Crab cake, shrimp were average, mashed potatoes were dry but the real thing I believe. Not sure it was worth the cost.
Family reunion. Too loud to enjoy conversation unfortunately. The ambiance is so awesome but it’s pretty expensive for what you get.
