The Service Charge plus tip really pushed the cost up on the check. I would pay 20% but the service charge pushes it to around 35%. That makes me pause on going back in the future. I ok in paying the tip, I feel like I am being guilted into paying much more with the service charge plus tip.
Great scenery! Ate outside on the patio. Beautiful view. Food was good. Fairly decent value for the money. They add a 20% gratuity (in lieu of tipping) but service was great.
Had a wonderful evening with friends! Our server Jen was phenomenal, the view and food was fantastic!
Lovely views of Appomattox and James rivers from the outdoor deck. Food was delicious. The ordering via a website was not the same as having a physical menu and it wouldn't take payment until you answered all the questions (with no reason given). You had to scroll back through to find what you had missed. It would have been helpful if it had put the cursor at the missing information.
The ordering of three courses on my phone at the table resulted in three visa charges. It seemed like a lot of work for me as the customer.
We were at the Boathouse for a birthday celebration. The ordering process during the pandemic was spot on. We were socially distant and the food was great. We will definitely return.
We stopped here for lunch en route from DC to Charlotte. Between the rain and COVID it was pretty empty but the GM greeted us and we had a delicious lunch. My husband’s clam chowder (made fresh daily) was delicious, as was my crab cake. The side of roasted brussell sprouts was one of the best I’ve had. The restaurant isn’t easily visible but when you get there and see the location right on the water, you will be pleasantly surprised. We will definately be back on a sunny day when we can sit outside on the deck overlooking the river!
It was nice for my first time. Would come back and visit.
The ordering by a smartphone is very difficult and many older people don’t have a smartphone. You REALLY need to go back to menus and normal ordering that your competition uses.
Great place to go for special occasion, food is great 😀👍
The food was good and when they did not have something I wanted to order, they did their best to make it right.
An environment that was safe and friendly.
Good food and absolutely know concept of service. I guess when restaurant charge upfront 20% for service, no one has to really “serve” the tables. Food was delivered at once. We were waiting for about 20 minutes till someone comes out... we finally CALLED on the phone the reservation number... received promises someone would be sent to our table.... then nothing...
At our departure time we saw five (!) waitresses just sitting at the bar, chatting, hiding from customers...
Again, why would they bother to do anything if they charged upfront before the food was delivered...
The ordering process was long, confusing and time consuming... we came there for a special occasion, as indicated in my advance reservation, but at arrival none of the three hostesses bothered to ask or acknowledge it... restaurant has a SPECTACULAR VIEW, but we missed sunset because of inexcusably complicated ordering process...
It requires to use your own phone
No help or explanation from the staff... no one to ask about anything on their menu
It was pretty confusing and very intrusive. Restaurant requires you to provide your name, phone number, e-mail, credit card, etc... no respect for privacy
Again, great location, decent quality food, but overpriced and worst service in the area...
I like how they have the new way to order, however, clarification of the service fee should be mentioned to patrons while scheduling a visit there.
The ordering from your phone makes the experience a lot less enjoyable and challenges timing of service.
It was amazing, only issue we had was waiting 15 mins before we could get someone’s attention to get to go boxes. Other than that it was perfeft
Fabulous killer view of the confluence of the Appomattox River and James River from the open-air patio about 2 miles downriver of Shirley Plantation was absolutely perfect on a balmy, sunny October afternoon. Food was delicious. We had a family party of 11 at two separate tables on short notice, and except for a non-alcoholic mojito that never found its way to our table after three requests, the service was impeccable. (We blame it on the required minimal-contact ordering through their app for our table -- the non-alcoholic mojito wasn't on the menu, but had been offered as a non-alcoholic alternative for a family member.) I had a blood orange whiskey sour (excellent) the Chicken Chesapeake with sherry cream -- not too much to drown it, but enough for every bite. Our table shared the corn and jalapeno hush puppies , which were HUGE -- several bites per hush puppy -- with honey sriracha butter giving it a nice subtle snap. Someone else at our table had a crab cake sandwich which was declared "great!"
My experience at Boathouse was immaculate. They are currently still doing touchless ordering. The food came fast and I enjoyed the outdoor seating. I will be visiting in the future very soon.
No servers but captains and they automatically add 20%. You have to order on the phone. Makes no sense. The captains brings your drinks , food, pre bus your tables ... they do everything except take your order. So what is the point. I will never go back. And the captains aren’t working hard because they know no matter how good or bad they are they will get 20%.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always excellent and the view is amazing no matter what the season. The staff is always accommodating and very efficient. I would highly recommend The Boathouse at City Point.
Beautiful view, good food, and deliciously unique drinks!
A perfect lunch on a glorious Friday afternoon. Food was delicious, service was outstanding. Looking forward to returning soon!
Did not like that you had to order and pay online to receive your food. Also, did not like that you are automatically charged a service fee. By ordering online you are unable to ask questions to a waitress. I did everything except bring the food to my table. For those type of prices, you should be receive full service, especially with the automatic service fee. What the fee is for, I have no clue. I did all the work and received little service. Guess I should be glad they didn't make me wash the dishes too.
Service was not good and my dinner was over cooked.
Lovely setting, good food, cocktails and service.
I had the Oysters Rockefeller and Mediterranean Sea Bass. Excellent meal!
I am not fond of the confusing ordering on your phone. Call me old fashioned, but for the price my husband and I paid for dinner ($140) , it would have been nice to actually have a server take our order!
We will return!
The Boathouse at City Point excels at customer service and the staff all work hard to make your dining experience relaxing and pleasant. If you are not adept at on-line ordering at your table, the servers are ready to assist you with placing your order the "old-fashioned" way. The restaurant has adapted well to the necessary changes with Covid-19, and we feel quite comfortable whenever we dine there, which is fairly often. This is by far one of our favorite places to dine and we prefer this location over any of the Richmond locations, not just because of its close proximity to home but because it is truly a beautiful restaurant with an excellent view of the river!
I had to request for the floor under my table to be swept, and the table to be wiped off because it wasn’t clean. The classes that was bought to the table were dirty, so I had to request for them to be replaced. Appetizer was sent out without serving utensils or plates. Food was extremely delicious, but wasn’t as hot as I would have liked. Our overall experience wasn’t the best, but I enjoyed my food.
Happy hour specials are great, food excellent, wait staff you can’t beat
And the view is grand
The food was excellent as always. My son's Old Fashioned tasted like OJ with a little bourbon. Service was good, although there is very little interaction with servers. They rely on their app for all ordering. It works ok, but is not seamless. It took me 10 minutes to get drinks ordered due to items falling out of the cart.
The service and food was horrible for the amount you will spend. I will not and have not recommended this place to anyone.
The staff were very flexible, moving people inside or outside due to the windy conditions, and that caused some confusion as to which table ordered what, but that is understandable. However, 2 of us had the California omelet, neither of which had avocado which is why I selected it; I mentioned it to the waitress but she had no comment or reaction.
Great view, location, service and food!
We had a wonderful experience. Celebrated my twentieth wedding anniversary.
Wedding Anniversary dinner. Asked 2 times for refill on sodas, none received. We even waited 20 minutes between requests. It was not worth the 20% gratuity they automatically charged us. Left restaurant very unhappy with the service.
We went for our anniversary and the first time visiting this location. Will definitely go back.
About 25 minutes south of the more familiar Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, this property overlooks the convergence of the Appomattox River and the James. Breathtaking, and beautiful, long water views from the outdoor patio. Unique, self-ordering from a web app and attentive, mast-wearing servers made this a relaxing experience, and our new, go-to waterside restaurant in the Richmond area. Fried shrimp entre was huge and delicious and the crab cake sandwich was massive. Both were attractively priced. We added a salad, glass of wine and a hush puppy starter and lingered afterwards to take in the view. Wonderful experience, even in the midst of COVID. Looking forward to our return!
Horrible service and food was cold and fish dried out. Had to almost beg someone to get us refills on drinks and no steak knives for steak ms which took another 10mins to get someone to bring over. Why the 20% auto service charge when I placed my order on an APP and all someone did was put the food in table ! NEVER will go back
Was a little disappointed we could not get brunch food on Saturday. Didn’t see anywhere on the website that specified that. Ordering system is nice but you have to do all your own timing. If you put in starters and food at same time it all comes out together. So you basically have to order 3 times. Once to get your drinks. Then appetizers and then your meal.
First time to The Boat House since we’re from out of town and driving through. With Covid enforcements, they have a contactless service system. Download a menu at the table and use your phone to order. 20% gratuity is automatically charged which we were fine with. Food was good, service was OK. Our drinks sat on the bar counter for a while before we had to ask our server to retrieve them. I had the broiled seafood platter and the flavor and quality was wonderful. It was warm, but not hot which made me wonder if it sat around for a while like our drinks did at the bar. The views are great overlooking a lake and we’d come back next time we travel through.
