The Blu Halo Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated our 10th anniversary by going to the Blu Halo and will most definitely be returning in the future. To start the night off right the hosts were very polite and welcoming. Our server Mary was amazing as well. She recommended we try the grouper special. I got the grouper special and my husband got the chief. We also shared the brussell sprouts and asparagus that were both divine.
The wine list at the Blu Halo is impressive. They have a huge selection of wine that fits every price point from high to low.
I am excited to come back and visit the Blu Halo. Next time I think we might try their brunch.
This was my first time going to this restaurant and the atmosphere were nothing but amazing. The waitress was very useful and know the food well and recommended great choices of food to us. I will be back with just my husband because was this was so beautiful.
A friend and I celebrated New Year's Eve with brunch. The staff was attentive and friendly. The place is very relaxing and lovely and the food and service was outstanding. We really enjoyed our time there. I hope to brunch at Blu Halo as soon as possible again!
Six of us ordered. Including two children. I had a steak which was cooked fine. Mashed Potatoes were cold. Ordered a side of brussell sprouts. Practically raw. Ever had raw brussel sprouts? No? There's a reason for that. They should have blanched them before halving (I would have done quartered for most of them) and fire roasting. It really seemed like amature hour at Blue Halo. Maybe because we were there early. I just don't think that should matter. Blu Halo has a good reputation so I just hope we were there on an off night and mine was the offest dish. Fortunately I was not paying or the manager and I would have had words. If we go again (and it is a big IF at this point) I hope they can get my food correct. I didn't bother with dessert because I was just ready to go. If you want to go somewhere nice AND you live north of I-10 somewhere off of Thomasville Rd, there are several to choose from. If price is not a factor you can go to BH if you want but in that price point you can do better. Why didn't I just send everything back? Because then I would look like a mal-content who isn't happy with anything. They redid the brussel sprouts and they were better. All the way up to just edible.
Had the special (Grouper / Grits) 2 orders and 1 order of Chateau.
Both orders of the grouper came out with COLD grits. One patron was "too hungry" to send back the meal, the other patron asked to have the grits heated. We were given bread plates when we were seated and after about 20 minutes we asked if bread was going to be brought out. We were told that you normally only bring out bread if the guests ask for it. What??
For the prices, we don't think we'll be coming back.
I would note at the outset that we were joined at this meal by my brother-in-law, who is a personal chef to the rich (e.g., head of Disney) and famous (e.g., Elizabeth Taylor, Pierce Brosnan, etc.) and who was visiting from California. We and he were quite impressed with the restaurant, minus one significant item. Our server started slowly, but came on strong after that to be ranked highly. The appetizers were all wonderful. The drinks were well prepared and filled the glasses as they should. Everything was on track to make this a five-star dining experience--until the steaks came. To be billed as a steakhouse, high grade, well-prepared steaks are an absolute must. My brother-in-law and I both had the chief and were mutually very disappointed. The taste and texture of a top-level steak were both absent. I don't blink at paying $50 for a steak, but do expect to get my money's worth when I do. That did not occur at this dining experience. We will return at least one more time based on the high quality of the rest of the fare. However, we should not hesitate to have a good steak and will definitely do so at this point.
This stands as one of my favorite restaurants in Tallahassee. I know some will think it's too pricey but it is especially great for special occasions. The food is delicious, wait staff is terrific and the ambience is so nice. The do have a good happy hour but I don't think they have it on weekends, something to work on, LOL!
Bottom line, It was a fine dinner. The food was some of the best, if not the best I’ve had in Tallahassee. The steak was prepared properly and the seafood was local and on point. It’s in a great location. Was a little noisy the table next to us had been in the wine for a while and we’re getting a little loud but nothing over the top. Overall I was slightly underwhelmed expecting more of a “wow factor” based off the reviews of friends and what I read online. However if you’re looking for a nice romantic dinner on the north end of town you won’t go wrong. Recommend making reservations and try their daily special.
A little out of the way, but well worth the trip. Went there for weekend brunch to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. The whole experience was phenomenal. The service was great and the food was incredible. We will make it a point to stop our next trip to Tallahassee
I learned that you can't use OpenTable to reserve a booth (no matter what it says). You need to call in.
They have two booths and a few tables. Trust me, you don't want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a celebration meal and have to sit at a bar top.
Everything about our first visit to Blu Halo was beyond expectations. Only minor disappointment was that we marked in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant did not acknowledge. Other than that the food, service and ambiance were spot on.
Great new Value!!!!! Right now Monday - Wednesday Blu Halo offers specials 3 course for $25 and 4 course for $30. We had the pork Piccata, wasn't sure about that but it was wonderful. Also had the Filet, was about 4 ounce and it was delicious. The portions are a bit smaller, but when you can have a salad or I had the mushroom ravioli with red wine sauce plus a side, potatoes Au Gratin was very yummy, the bit smaller portions go a long way. And if you get the 4 for $30 you get desert. Lets not forget the Happy Hour although I was sad the stopped selling the Wente Chardonnay, it was so good. If you do not take advantage of this deal you are losing out.
For a high end restaurant felt like a diner seating. Bar was nicer. Food good when eating, but my husband and I were both up all night, something didn’t agree with either of us. We have been to the brunches and truly enjoyed it. We would not go back for dinner.
