Food was not good. Chicken and biscuits was like a microwaved chicken tender. Expected much more!
Service was lacking, at best. Good very average, sadly.
Food was great, service was not. Our server never checked on us.
Blackbird has a fantastic brunch - tasty, reasonable cost, with many options. Always great food.
We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were asked to come back in 10 minutes so that the kitchen could catch up on orders. There were multiple tables empty so I was confused why we couldnt at least sit down and order drinks.
After getting sat we did wait a long time to put in drink orders and an app order. We ordered Cinnamon sugar pork rinds which were so hard that they were not edible. I tried to bite through several but my teeth could not bite through them. My bloody mary was missing pickles that were described on the menu as being included. The entrees came out an hour after being seated. The entrees were OK, but not a great value for the price and slow service.
When visiting Asheville, this little gem in the middle of downtown is great to visit. Definitely add the Blackbird to your list of dining options. The food is delicious. The ambience is relaxing without too much noise. The service is good. Also, the craft cocktails are wonderful.
We chose the Blackbird over Rhubard and we’re glad we did.
It’s a friendly restaurant where you fell like you’re dining at a friends. No snootiness. Our waiter was patient with our menu perusal, solicitous and traded dry humor. The chef stopped by to check how we liked the squash tempura and noted he picked the collard greens himself (and they were excellent!)
There are some areas for improvement:
Why add two scallops to a trout that was already large? Just the trout, please.
The pork chop was huge, delicious and … it doesn’t need two heavy sides. Make one light!
Our waiter added ( and charged us for) a second glass of wine that we didn’t order. sorry, that’s really wrong! (Although, he also comp’d us on a part glass of a MUCH cheaper wine because the bar ran out…)
So… great potential but a few sour notes.
Trout and scallop risotto was incredible, service was great
On vacation in Asheville and looked for a local place with good food. This was very good. My husband had the fried chicken which was a very generous portion of chicken breast fried with mashed potatoes and gravy. I ordered the corn pie. It was different- I expected a sort of corn soufflé. Still I was not disappointed. It was very good. The roasted beet salad was also very good, but need a bit more goat cheese to be delicious. Our server, Rama, was very attentive and provided good recommendations. Overall, a lovely dinner in a fine restaurant. Than you. Highly recommended!
Overpriced and overrated. The portions were very small and a very limited menu. Very disappointing.
Our dinner was fantastic and the service could not have been better. We are looking forward to our next visit and can’t wait to try some of the other entrees.
Had been there once before - pre-Covid and it was excellent. Lived up to my expectations. Great food and service. One of my favorite Asheville restaurants.
Great food and drinks.
Brie salad was the highlight of the evening. My husband got the ramen and I got the pork chop. Both VERY salty.
Recommendation to the chef: bring some acid to your dishes.
Chef’s tasting was fabulous.
I certainly enjoyed the food, but we had an unfortunate experience with the person at the door. We complained about what we experienced and the manager graciously accommodated us.
Food was excellent. We went in for the tasting menu. We were not finished with our courses right at 10pm when they closed. They turned the music off which made the restaurant feel too quiet and like we were being rushed out. I didn't appreciate that after spending a couple hundred bucks there. But the food really was delicious.
First time there, service wasn’t great. Had to ask for our food to be checked. Waited on Olives for 15 mins. Bottled beer came out warm & then when I sent it back they said “it probably wasn’t left in the cooler long”, so therefore they’re shouldn’t have serviced it. The sandwiches were gross and meat was fatty. Manager discounted our bill by 20% but should’ve comped the food that she’d herself said “ We obviously didn’t eat”. Wouldn’t go back. Much better places around town!
The food was outstanding! I had the trout a d scallops on risotto and it was delicious. My friend had the vegetarian option and it was orgasmic. Service was excellent.
Brunch was delicious. The staff very friendly. We will come back soon.
The best grits ever…but it doesn’t stop there. The mushroom and cheese omelette with marinated mushrooms was lovely as were the corn bread biscuits with butter and jam.
A must enjoy if you visit Downtown Asheville!
Well crafted cocktails and menu. Perfect date night restaurant.
The service was fine, but nothing over the top. The menu looks great, but the food was very underwhelming. For example, it’s great time of year for fresh strawberries but instead the French toast came with gooey strawberries that look like they had been frozen. The bacon was like eating a piece of jerky, the biscuits were crumbly, and the toast for avocado toast was very boring and barely toasted. We were looking forward to eating here and it was very just OK.
Dinner was amazing!
We really enjoyed the 6 course chef's menu with accompanying wine pairing.
It started bad and got worse!
The reservation system asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Despite saying it was a birthday celebration, there was no recognition whatsoever. We weren't expecting a cookie, but don't ask if you're not going to do anything with the information.
Unfortunately, that was indicative of the rest of the evening. Three of the first four things we asked about (beer and food) were not available, and the server was unsure about the tasting menu. Despite all the warning signs, we ordered the Chef's tasting menu anyway...That was a mistake. The bruschetta was slightly soggy and lacking flavor and the pancetta risotto was bitter and severely under-seasoned. Perhaps worse than the disappointing food was the fact that they very clearly wanted to turn the table quickly. The second and third courses were delivered to the table before we even finished the previous courses. I suspect that would have continued had I not said something to the server. I'm not sure why there are so many good reviews of Blackbird, as our experience was absolutely not worthy of such raves! There are many excellent restaurants in Asheville - this is unfortunately not one of them.
It is unfortunate that we did not acknowledge your birthday and that it started your meal off so unpleasantly. We have had a hard time getting in products do to shipping and other Covid related things, but we do what we can to replace them. I really wish you had enjoyed the food as so many others have, as you said. Maybe the things you got just aren't for you and if there's a next time maybe I can make something that you would prefer more. Thank you so much for trying us and have a lovely day.
It was excellent. Food was wonderful and service was incredible.
Wonderful experience overall. The food was really well done and our server was AMAZING. We went here during our honeymoon and left very happy.
This was just ok. Food and service were generally good, but not great.
Thank you!! Could you please give a bit more information so I can fix any issues that we might have?
Both the trout and vegetable Wellington were delicious!
Try anything and everything. You will not be disappointed. The local trout and scallops were definitely a table favorite!
The service was great and the food was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and attentive.
This was a nice enough restaurant and the servers were very nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant is unreasonably loud. It is the loudest I have ever been in. It made it difficult to enjoy the experience.
Very limited menu. Good service. No ambiance. Pricy. Less than average food quality. Would not return..
Waited over an hour for our food, despite 5 tables in our area eating & leaving before we even got our food. Once received, the food was tasteless and bland.
Good location in downtown Asheville. Food was good, service great
The service was great, friendly and expedient without being pushy.
Thank you so much!!!
I'm trying to lose weight so I order just the beet salad, it was delicious. I was there with 6 others, they all had different meals and they all said they were delicious.
Had the chefs dinner with wine pairing which was very good. Great service and a nice evening while on vacation in Asheville.
Thank you so much!!! We are so happy you enjoyed the chef tasting. Look forward to seeing you again.
Great dinner - excellent meal and outstanding service. Look forward to returning to check out The Blackbird’s brunch menu the next time we’re in Asheville!
