From day one, we have wanted this little restaurant to be a space where anyone can feel comfortable & welcomed. Classic French cuisine is the root of this ethos - consistent, familiar and even nostalgic flavours from the tried & true feel good classics, yet slightly elevated with a touch of whimsy. Whether you are up for a curated culinary experience with our 4 & 7 Course tasting menus (Fri & Sat evenings), or prefer to choose your own adventure with our 3-course Table D’hote menu (Wed & Thurs evenings), or are in search of an upscale lunch à la carte menu (Thur - Sat); we have you covered! Our menus are composed entirely to showcase the best local products in Lanark County & the Ottawa Valley and are tailored monthly to best celebrate the tastes of the season. What’s more is that we tie it all together with the best small town, friendly, warm and courteous service around. Just like at a good friend’s house; we look forward to welcoming you to our kitchen! This is literally the best restaurant we’ve ever been to. Each and every time Ian and his incredible team outdo themselves with the presentation, service, the fabulous wine menu the atmosphere, their attention to detail and of course the amazing food. And to top it all off? A beautiful rose as a gift to acknowledge our celebration. Living in nearby, Almonte, Come here as often as we can. For those living further away, you will not be disappointed. It’s worth the drive!!!!

My husband and I have dined on the patio several times and love the casual atmosphere. The food is always mouthwateringly delicious and cooked to perfection. And the service is outstanding. Highly recommend!

The Monthly Supper Club menu is always a delight and the food has never disappointed!! The Black Tartan Kitchen has now become our “go-to” restaurant for a special evening out and for celebrating…….. whatever!! Thank-you Ian and Staff!

What a great restaurant. Chef Ian and his team make the most amazing creations. Will definitely be going back often! Our server, Paulo, was knowledgeable, funny and had impeccable attention to detail.

We were a group of four and have absolutely no problems highly recommending Black Tartan. Chef Ian and staff offer an intimate and unique experience. All food dishes are impeccably presented and so delicious - along with excellent wine pairings. A local experience that shouldn’t be missed.

We went here to celebrate our anniversary with another couple. The wait staff were attentive and accommodating and the food was excellent each course explained as to how it was prepared and where it came from, a lot of it locally purchased. Unfortunately it was so noisy that we couldn't hear our friends across the table. For the price we were expecting a little better ambience. For this reason, I will not be returning.

As usual, amazing personable and hilarious servers. Beautifully presented, visually appetizing and delicious, multi-faceted textural plates. It never ceases to amaze me whenever a plate is set down. I did find the service slightly non-attentive as we were without water for sometime and had to ask for a refill, and the timing of the food coming out was a bit off, and slow. If both could be tuned, it would be 5 stars. We were there for a birthday and at the end the server surprised the birthday guest with a beautiful pink rose from the local florist down the street. A+++. That made her day. Thanks so much for a great dining experience, and incredible value for a three-course meal in the beautiful town of Carleton Place.
