I celebrated my 40th birthday. Was dying to be back on the island with a hurricane and my grouper daufskie! We ordered the fried okra app and loved it!
5 stars for the atmosphere and service. Chowder came cold rice and beans were also cold.
We made a reservation and when arrived were promptly seated. The food was excellent and since it was an anniversary dinner they gave us a free dessert. Would highly recommend.
Average food. Expensive. . Pretty setting. Outdoor seating is great.
Sam was an excellent waiter and a joy to converse with.
Our 2nd time eating at the Black Marlin. Everything was top notch. It has now become an Island favorite. Will be visiting again for sure.
Service was very good. Portion size was very good.
I had the grouper daufuskie and it was delicious. Also had the bayside seafood chowder which was hot and also delicious.
Very disappointed. No way this is a 4-star restaurant. Crab cakes overcooked; vegetables uncooked. Server seemed disinterested. Will not return.
As usual, the food and service were great. We always enjoy eating in the outside dining area.
Delirious food and superb service!
Drinks were great! Sushi nachos were really really good! Filet medallions with Oscar topping was fabulous! Attentive service! Outdoor seating has a great coastal vacay feel! We’ll be back on next visit!
Our meal was very enjoyable. The service was a tad slower most likely related to less than usual number of waitstaff. Still a good time
Have to come here while on vacation. Great food and a really good band playing. A little loud but it’s vacation, right?
Over priced for what you get.
Enjoyed the outdoor seating with our group. Had reservations for a party of 7 at 6:15pm. The band was so loud you could not have a conversation. If the band went on later at night, or if the volume was turned down, it would have been a much more enjoyable night.
Good friends, great weather, and good food to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The fish was good; however the sides could have been better. Baked potato was not done, and the steamed vegetable needed to be cooked more.
Great food and location and our server Sam was excellent
Food was below average in comparison to the other restaurants we had eaten at on the island.
We had a great Evening - the food and wine was excellent!
Excellent menu choices. Great food. Noise level was too high. The live music really didn't add anything but noise. Server was over worked thus not as attentive but that's understandable with the current labor shortage. Thought prices were very fair.
Reserved dinner, but seated 20 minutes later. Service was poor, but I realize they cannot get sufficient staff, as most of the restaurant was empty. Once we ordered, food was cool when served. Our waitress disappeared without explanation midway through the meal and another took over. Just not the Black Marlin I have known & loved.
Some salad ingredients were inferior and should not have been included. Live music was too noisy and distracted from otherwise pleasant atmosphere.
Food was barely lukewarm and server barely checked on us. Never offered to refill drinks. Had a 6:15 reservation and never seated outside. After twenty minutes of waiting, finally sat inside. Will not be back! We come here every year, multiple times per year. It was terrible!
Not a great experience
The food and drinks were high quality, the service was fast and the waiter was very personable and great! The restaurant was very busy and crowded so the noise level was high. We had a reservation , but a table wasn't ready and we waited 15-20 min to be seated.
The place was very loud outside; much less so inside, but not fine dining. A kind of joint. I found the food mediocre. Might have been OK in one of the cheap chains, but to leave over $100 for one glass of wine, one appetizer, and two main plates of mediocre quality is not acceptable. I will never return to this place.
They were out of several market fish which complicated ordering, but we settled on grouper and it was excellent. They were very accommodating to my gluten and other food allergies. My meal was memorably yummy. The view is great and it is popular with large groups of vacationers.
I am sympathetic to the fact that the world is still drastically affected by the end of the pandemic, especially the restaurant industry. With that being said, I am guessing the restaurant was short staffed. We had a 7:00p reservation. We had to wait 45 minutes before our drink orders and dinner were taken. Upon ordering, we were notified that they were sold out of all of the daily specials on the menu , which consisted of four fresh fish options ( which is what we were looking forward to having for dinner). Our waiter was respectful and courteous, and apologized for this as well as for the wait. Then it was another 20 mins before we received water/drinks. And 30 mins after that we received our dinner. And we never ended up receiving the dinner salads we had ordered to have before our entrees. All of that aside, the meal was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. It was worth the wait. :))
Worst meal we had while visiting Hilton Head. My husband ordered off the specials menu. Twice the waitress came to tell us they no longer had those items. This was at 7:00pm. Not sure why they even gave us that menu. The food was not good and highly overpriced. The vegetables that came with my meal were unseasoned and appeared to be previously frozen. Service was a bit lacking. It took awhile to get food and then even more time to get our check.
Good was just ok
Beautiful setting, great service but food is just average.
5:15 reservations, nice table outside. Food took over an hour to arrive.
Bread they serve has a very hard crust. The loves are thinner so it is mostly hard crust. Cannot find a side dish I like. Not a squash fan and the broccoli is generally served almost raw. The stuffed flounder is very good with a nice sauce.
Server wasn't great. Goofed on our orders and never came back to ask about drink refills until we were ready to leave. Had to track her down for erred order and to get our check
The food and service were very good. Unfortunately the Saturday night music was VERY LOUD; it was difficult to have a conversation and we were sitting as far away from the band as possible. Professional musicians have told me that a band that plays too loud is not a good band, for what it is worth. Our server, Mina was excellent. We had a party of 8, with separate checks, and all orders were correct. I had sword fish, a special, with broccoli and risotto, and it was excellent.
Food was excellent! I loved the linguini and white clam sauce ! The addition of spinach and fresh mushrooms brought it over the top! Our server, Emily was superb - so very friendly and accommodating. It was a bit loud though sitting outside with the music - mostly fun and enjoyable music just hard to have a conversation.
Tell loud for conversation. Dirty appetizer dishes. Love it for lunch but not for dinner.
May have booked the wrong night to come. It was Oyster Bash and we were pretty excited when we found out. They were serving those buckets of oysters and more out of the supplemental kitchen in the open. Was cool to watch. So we ordered and our kids ordered food from the kitchen inside. Their food came out and they were done eating before we even got our bucket of crab legs, shrimp, and oysters and it wasn’t even that warm. Our waitress should have noticed that our food never made it and she practically had to go over there and get it herself. Not sure if the ticket was lost or what but it made the experience less desirable.
Nice vibe, but food was a bit disappointing for the price. Service was average, although very busy.
