The Berkeley Boathouse
We took 13 people to lunch at the Boathouse. It has a fabulous view and the food was great. I would recommend this restaurant.
Great service and an interesting menu. We ate outside; the view is spectacular.
overall atmosphere was okay - large room, high ceilings. Food was adequate and expensive for what it was. fish was underdone and chicken was slightly overdone. with so many excellent bakeries in Berkeley., not sure what anything less than the best bread ever is being served. Service was prompt although they forgot our coffee.
Beautiful spot on the water great service friendly staff beautiful bar outside Fire pits we went with kids 9$ for a bowl of kraft Mac n cheese menu for adults is pricy and drinks are very expensive we still went back to just the bar for a drink and appetizer just to enjoy the ambiance at night
Service was poor and frustratingly slow and disorganized. Great views and yummy food but we had to seek out staff to get things like silverware, napkins, to give our order, enough plates for sharing.
It was an amazing experience and will come back to visit again!
We love the Berkeley waterfront, and though we love Skates, were delighted to learn that a new restaurant had opened at the marina Double Tree hotel. I have dined here twice, and loved the food both times. The soups are simply outstanding--the corn soup the best I've ever had, and the squash soup also worth ordering whenever it's on the menu. My husband, who loves salumi, said that the charcuterie plate was the best he'd ever had (fortunately, large enough to share, as I love the Cypress Grove Purple Haze goat cheese that was on the board. And our server, Rebecca, was terrific, checking on us, and willing to take time to chat and run to the kitchen to get information for us. We can't wait until the days lengthen and the weather warms so we can eat outside.
We came here for Berkeley’s restaurant week and OMG I can’t even begin to say how great their offer, their food, and their service was! The food tastes modern, fresh, and absolutely delicious! Their restaurant week offer was extremely generous, at 40$ for a 5 course fine dining meal with original-sized portions! Try the unique squash soup, their creme brûlée’s (which comes in 3 different flavours!), and their lemon panna cotta! YUM! Compliments to the chef and their amazing service!
Our server was very helpful and pleasant
Great soup, Brussel sprouts, chicken wings
Party of 2 for Berkeley Restaurant Week dinner. The sun had set, so not much of a view, but nice ambiance and quiet enough for conversation. Unbelievable value for the Restaurant Week deal, very tasty, and nicely presented. Soup AND Salad AND appetizer, Entree, and Dessert. All of these items were regular size, not small samples, and we each got our own (not "one for the table to share"). Between the 2 of us we had: 2 large cups Roasted Squash soup - yummy; 2 cobb salad - side-sized, chock full of goodies; fried oysters - 8 small korean wings - 8 bone in pieces; 2 salmon entrees - good sized hunk of skin-on fish over pasta pearls with non-everyday veggies creme brulee trio - subtle distinct flavors; and citrus panna cotta - pretty we would visit again.
Called the Resturant to ask for directions and no response. Table bread was so burnt it was not edible. Temperature of food was not hot. My guest were very disappointed and unhappy with the entire service. I heard great things from my Berkeley community and thought to give the location a try, but was left quite dissatisfied.
Birthday dinner and Berkeley Restaurant Week :)
I'd go again to try different menu items, brunch, and outdoor summer meal especially because it's in a great convenient location that is close to scenic walking and at the dbl tree. They renovated since I was last there in 2014 for the better.
Food: Seared Ahi Tuna sucked. I love raw cold tuna. The waiter said it's supposed to be cold even though it says "seared". I describe them as cold tough flavorless blocks. Not a true sear and maybe it needs to be thawed more and thinner slices?
Calamari very well cooked and good flavor but needs more gochujang aioli. Wagyu sliders very good.
There should have been more servers- ours was very good.
Excellent service, great food, nice views, highly recommend
They stop serving breakfast at 11 am very disappointed! I didn’t want the dinner menu at 11:30!
Restaurant was empty but they stuck to their breakfast deadline.
I absolutely love The Berkeley Boathouse!
My flight was delayed and we arrived 40 mins before the restaurant closed.
They will still very accommodating.
We sat by the fireplace and enjoyed a few appetizers and drinks.
I'm vegan and they were very accommodating.
I highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
Entree was excellent, absolutely terrific. Salmon could not have been more perfectly done. Dessert was just acceptable....”flight of gelato” was 1” sized balls of 3 different gelatos in teensy cones. Sort of cute but way way smaller than other restaurants which also offer 2-3 scoops/scoop lets of gelato...about a third of the size actually. Some of the gelato balls had that odd texture that ice cream gets when it has been thawed and refrozen....not saying that happened, but the texture was off for several, in that fashion. Staff very good, valet service very nice and helpful..
The service was absolutely horrible. And they charged us $40 for the full Thanksgiving meal even though they were out of the soup and completely out of dessert. The meat was dry and overcooked. My friend's meal was never put in so we were done by the time they made it. Our food was lukewarm. They seated us right next to the door to outside. It was 40 degrees out and we froze. Will not be back.
Sitting outside having a wonderful meal was magical.
Great dinner meeting tonight - Very tasty food and quality bourbon drinks!!
Big plus - it’s open early for dinner (my colleague had jet lag). Portions are small but tasty, tho I don’t get why brussel sprouts now have sugar & too much balsamic here as many other places. Menu is somewhat limited, tho they were good on preparing the fish withou mango for allergy reasons.
Good was fun excellent but the ambiance was not up to par.
Excellent business lunch that had superior service and spectacular ocean views. I will be back!!
The service was slow for most of the meal. It took 45 minutes from sitting down to getting our appetizers. Apparently not enough staff but our server was friendly and apologized for the wait. The food was delicious, especially the sweet corn fritters, grilled artichoke, brussel sprouts, and bison short rib. The wagyu sliders were too dry. Overall the food was flavorful and fresh. We chose to sit on the patio deck for views but the temperature went down quickly into the low 60s after sunset. The heating lamps are not positioned well for diners. The fire pits are more for show than heat. The heaters above direct heat only directly under them instead of angled toward the tables. We had to get the manager to turn on the floor lamp but that one was too far away to have any effect and was not movable. For warm weather, patio seating is great but don't count on the heaters if you want to stay warm on colder nights and sit inside instead.
Food ok but over-priced for quality. Service slow and lacking.
Berkeley Boathouse seems to be a Work In Progress -- cocktails are good, entrees are good -- can't get capuccino with dinner -- they referred us to their coffee shop. Servers are few and heavily burdened.
We ate inside, but the outside patio seemed very nice even on a very windy day.
What a beautiful night in Berkeley! You’d think such a great spot would b swarming with customers on a night like tonight! I think no one knows about it! They need to promote their gem!!!
Great weekday lunch place right on the water. We had the place to ourselves!
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was beautiful. We had a wonderful waitress, but our feeling was that the restaurant was way, way understaffed. Our waitress had to take our orders, wait on our table, mix our drinks, help clear the table, etc. Please hire more waitresses.
Fantastic meal today and really enjoyed the service and bay views. We will be back!
Beautiful boathouse, cozy fireplace, great food and presentation. My reservation was the end of the evening so the service staff was a bit slow. I suspect that would have been different if I was there earlier. Looking forward to going back - Sunday brunch would be ideal.
We were very excited to try out the new Berkeley Boathouse last Saturday evening. We just missed sunset, but arrived to a lively dining room, that appeared somewhat updated. There were larger groups and a jazz musician, that made it difficult to have a normal conversation. Our waiter asked us if we wanted coffee, than realized she usually works the morning shift and got all confused, since we wanted to have some wine instead. The interior was updated and pleasant, but the lighting was harsh and way too bright. This is not the place for a romantic dinner. Besides it's location overlooking the marina, it does feel more like a hotel lobby than a fine dining destination. Given the steep pricing for entree's and drinks, we expected way more. The Brussel Sprout appetizer was great. The almost $40 Filet Mignon was served with just a side salad. The $24 Mahi Mahi was overdone, but came with a delicious but small side of nicely flavored mashed potatoes ( Horseradish) . Given the noise level, starck lighting and unexperienced waiter, we did not opt for dessert, but when presented with the bill, were charged initially for the wrong and pricier bottle of wine. It took our waiter some time to figure that out after we complained. Also make sure you get your parking ticket validated, otherwise a hefty fee will cost you on the way out.
Incompetent service, in eatable food. Ordered a rare burger and it came well done. Ordered rose and a pinot noir came instead. Bill was all screwed up.
Check this place, you wouldn't regret it. Worth coming for a relaxing ambience and awesome great food.
Food is much better than the previous restaurant. Service is a bit slow. Not too many people at lunch time but it took a while for our orders to come. Bison ribs is fork tender, lobster roll is delicious, the trio creme-brulee is a must. Although the serving is small but it was good.
Birthday a lunch with a friend and it was the perfect place! Beautiful outdoor dining looking out over the bay! Food was great & portions generous. The recent upgrade is fabulous, I will frequent The Berkeley Boathouse!
Attractive remodel altho still too hard to find the restaurant/entry. Free valet parking very much appreciated! Menu revamp has some excellent starters - corn soup, oxtail wontons, corn fritters all tasty, little bit of chile heat in all of them. Short rib entree substantial and really liked the subtle wasabi-like lift to the mashed potatoes, with generous amt of roasted asparagus and diced portobellos. Salmon suffered from overcooking, however, even tho we requested medium-rare to rare doneness. Kitchen refused to do this, so unless you like really dead fish we'd suggest sticking to meat/chicken dishes. Note that starters were substantial in size - we wish more restaurants would consider offering half-portions. Boathouse is definitely an upgrade in decor and food over former Bay Grille. Service was excellent: cheerful and efficient, good timing.
The only redeeming thing about this restaurant is the view of the Bay and the sunset.
We found this newly opened restaurant on its first day of regular service. The food was excellent. We started with Burrata with perfect heirloom tomatoes and pesto, one of the best I've ever had. Their Kung Pao version of brussels sprouts was sweet, spicy and tangy, well cooked and still a bit firm. The filet mignon au poivre with black truffle butter, served with watermelon and beets on chevre mousse was absolutely divine. My partner had a fried chicken sandwich with fries which was well done and exactly what he wanted. It's great they have such a full menu ranging from burgers to filet. There were many dishes we still want to try. Service was exceptionally friendly, organized and professional, especially for a new restaurant. There's a bar in the middle of the large room with beautiful views of the marina, several TV screens, some live music when we were there that wasn't too loud -- so the ambiance is more of a hotel casual restaurant vibe than the fine dining menu they serve, which definitely competes with the best the Eastbay has to offer. We also enjoyed the spaciousness of the room--not crammed together in rows of tables as is popular these days. This was overall a very pleasurable and worthwhile experience. We will definitely be back.
Thank you Lunara for sharing your feedback, we are ecstatic to hear that you had a great time dining in at The Berkley Boathouse Restaurant. The brussels sprouts are my personal favorite which I always recommend it to our guests and are always a hit. Let us know when you are planning to dine in next, I have some great menu recommendations and happy to pair wine.
