---The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

    We started with a flight of beer. We always start with a flight at a German restaurant we have not tried before. Excellent choices, but we dis have to rechoose one due to it being no longer available. My chicken schnitzel and spaetzle was fantastic, and my husbands spatzle knudel (spelling?). Great time, fun setting.

    First visit to Berghoff was in 1976 - was hooked on the Sauerbraten then and have continued to enjoy it frequently 50 years later.

    Had a great meal. My wife had the goulash and I had the calves liver. If you are hesitant about ordering liver, try this! The liver is thin-sliced and very tender. The onion and bacon with the sauce make it very tasty. Comes with roasted carrots and asparagus and a generous amount of mashed potatoes. My wife enjoyed her meal, as well. She had a side of their creamed spinach. We didn't have dessert, and I had their root beer to drink ( I didn't have my usual beer because I didn't want to fall asleep at the CSO concert we were attending). We've been going to the Berghoff for years, and was a little disappointed that they didn't serve bread beforehand. We used to love their rye. We learned from the server that there is a $2.00 charge for bread now. I guess we should have asked for it. Also my wife observed that the spinach, although good, is not the same as it used to be. We couldn't quite figure out what was different. A classic Chicago Restuarant!
