---The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

    Great food, wonderful service, and delicious beer. Had the Game Sausage plate, bratwurst sandwich, German potato salad, red cabbage and giant pretzel. For dessert, we had the Black Forest cake and the apple strudel a la mode. All excellent! This will be one of our favorite Chicago restaurants — we’ll definitely return!

    Food wasn't great, also a lot of the menu wasn't German food, I was really looking forward to a great German meal. If it wasn't for the brewery on-site I'd not return

    I lived in Chicago for 20 years, but moved away 15 years ago. I returned to Chicago to celebrate my 60th birthday and met up with friends for lunch to kick-off the festivities. Lunch at The Berghoff didn't disappoint and was exactly as I remember it years ago!

    Very gemütlich. The main dining room reminds of a Viennese cafe, the adjoining Adams Street Brewery brew pub is cozy and welcoming. The food is traditional German, with some unexpected twists. I had the potato pancake appetizer, which consists of six mini-pancakes, garnished with a sort of sweet-and-sour compote of all the sides that one would associate with potato pancakes. Nice. The main course schnitzel was up to expectations. Desserts are traditional, but some with untraditional twists. The caramel crunch chocolate cheesecake was outstanding. Everything is expensive these days, but the Berghoff is a pretty good value. Highly recommend.

    Disappointed with menu and portions. I have been to many German restaurants and this is no where near being authentic. The ambiance is not German. When you have Mexican Food on the menu they have lost their identity. I expected better food and beer.
