About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for brunch
We are a working family farm that offers country quiet and rural beauty, along with sophisticated dining and unparalleled comfort.

Peace Hill Farm, owned by writer and historian Susan Wise Bauer, is a hundred-acre family farm that raises rare Leicester Longwool sheep, Angora goats, ducks, and chickens.

Our Afternoon Tea & Light Lunch offers you soup, finger sandwiches, sweets, scones, and pastries--plus tea or coffee, of course, along with a full wine list. Linger as long as you like, looking out over working farmland and sheep pastures; add a farm tour with our compliments; eat indoors or out (in nice weather, under the trees; in colder months, in front of the fireplace). Stay as long as you like, breathe deep, and enjoy.

Afterwards, browse our farm store! We produce fiber (fleeces, rovings, and beautifully finished yarns) plus lambs, kids, and free-range duck and chicken eggs.

We offer customized farm-to-table dinners--ask for details

I have returned many times to bring friends for a delightful tea at Peace Hill Farm. It is a beautiful farm setting, and the food, service, ambience, and cost are delightful! Ask to try the chocolate tea she offers!

It is always lovely to dine here. We were very early but we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. We were warned there might be a little delay since there is only one person working there but our food came very quickly. Much too much for us to eat but we took some home. It is a lovely high tea and we recommend highly!

We had the absolute pleasure of attending a Sunday lunch at Peace Hill Farm in Charles City, Virginia on April 6, and it was nothing short of magical. Set outdoors behind the historic farmhouse, the setting was as perfect as the weather—sunny skies, blooming trees, and the peaceful charm of the countryside. Chef Eric Garcia, who also happens to be the farm manager, prepared a spectacular multi-course meal that showcased the best of local ingredients. We started with a beautifully arranged charcuterie board featuring Virginia artisanal cheeses and Peace Hill Farm–cured meats, perfectly paired with a 2023 Thomas Henry Pinot Noir. The butternut squash soup with rosemary and sage was a standout, paired with a crisp Thomas Henry Chardonnay, and the slow-roasted barbacoa-style beef in the second course was melt-in-your-mouth delicious—complemented by local roasted oyster mushrooms and thyme potato gruyere flan. For dessert, the hummingbird cake with toasted pecans and mocha caramel sauce was divine, and the locally roasted coffee from Flying Kite in Williamsburg was the perfect finish. Our gracious host, Susan, welcomed everyone with warmth, and her children helped serve throughout the meal, adding such a personal touch. After lunch, we were treated to a hayride tour of the farm where we got to meet the animals—including baby lambs that had just been born! We also visited the pigs, chickens, cows, and horses, and learned about the thoughtful, sustainable practices the family has followed for generations. Peace Hill Farm is a true gem—beautiful, welcoming, and rooted in family and tradition. If you ever get the chance to experience one of their farm lunches, don’t hesitate. It’s an unforgettable day in every way

The New Year’s Tea was wonderful. Delicious food and gracious service. My best friend and I were seated in a room to ourselves and it was a perfect spot for catching up. Lovely views too. Peace Hill Farm never disappoints!
