First time visiting the apparatus room and was really excited about having a good experience. Unfortunately the service we received was terrible. The server didn’t seem
like she wanted to be there, everything was slow, nobody checked on us to see if we needed anything. It wasn’t even busy either. The food when we finally received it, however, was pretty good. Everything we ordered was presented very nicely and tasted great.
Food was great! Place looked great. I liked all the different seating options lots of cool chairs
The Apparatus Room is a beautiful restaurant. We were all excited to come and experience this place that's owned by a formerly Chicago-based Michelin starred chef.
We arrived for our reservation an hour early and service at the bar was very good. I did check in and ask if we could be seated early and the host told us "no way, we're very busy". The place was half empty and stayed half empty. When we were finally seated at 8:45, most of the tables around us were empty. Odd...
We were excited to get the Chef's Tasting Menu and the accompanying wine flight. We were served 9 different food items and 6 paired wines. The service was not bad but a little spotty at times, esp. for a slower night.
The food - a nicely presented, fresh oyster appetizer served with a light rose. Delicious. Then a salmon appetizer served on little english-muffiny circles. Also very good - the best of the evening. It was paired with a wonderful Reisling.
A romaine lettuce hand held salad was served and was not very interesting. Along with a spicy/sweet glazed cauliflower and some nice roasted brussels sprouts.
A fish course - fried skate wing - was served w/a semillion/sav blanc. The wine was fantastic but the fish...skate wing is one of my favorites - this was a large deep fried portion and very dry. It was almost inedible.
A platter of a mole-like roasted chicken breasts & legs came. There was probably 9 pieces of chicken for 3 of us. Crazy portions. Not particularly flavorful &, again, over cooked & dry.
We had a nice time but the total for 3 of us with tip was over $500. And we spent over $100 at the bar prior to being seated. I've been to many wonderful & expensive restaurants around the world don't mind spending a lot of money for a nice meal but this meal was not special in any way. It was one of the more bland and poorly cooked & seasoned chef type meals I've ever had. There was a significant lack of creativity and the over cooked food was truly disappointing.
The food was excellent. Meal and drinks are expensive but worth the ambiance and quality of food. Service was good too.
Everything was great! We will definitely go back.
I had an amazing experience at The Apparatus room! From the amazing service our server Dawn provided right down to every dish we tasted and the ambiance...AMAZING!
Excellent food during Sunday jazz brunch.
Definitely enjoyed my dinner with my mom at the Apparatus Room. She is not the most adventurous eater so when she saw the menu she looked a bit discouraged because the dishes listed have fancy ingredients and descriptions. I ordered for us and she LOVED IT! We ordered the Whitefish Ceasar Salad, the oyster mushrooms, the brussel sprouts, she had the farm chicken and I had the short ribs. Definitely plan to come back with my husband next time we're in town.
Our favorite restaurant in Detroit if you are a bit more adventurous. Definitely get the Chef's tasting menu - not cheap but well worth the money and plenty of food.
Excellent food & service, such ambiance in the atmosphere & decor.
We came to the Chefs table last October and we loved that and then came back on Thursday to experience the Apparatus room and we loved that.
Entire experience was on point! Memorable evening for me and my guests.
Came for brunch. It was our second time here and it was amazing! Would love to come for dinner! Ambiance is fantastic along with the food and service
As usual, the food and service were excellent. The menu offers a nice mix of small plates and entrees many of which are unique in their ingredients and presentation. Although the restaurant is large, when crowded the noise level is high, which, for many, only adds to the energized atmosphere. I would highly recommend the restaurant and bar.
Was such a great place to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The food was so delicious! The opera cake was the most decadent desert I’ve ever eaten.
I really enjoyed everything about the whole place!
My spouse can sometimes have difficulty finding food that he can eat on most menus, but he did, and he liked it!!
My husband and I made a reservation for a special dinner date. We were seated right away, and everything about the night was fantastic. The service was terrific, very friendly and fast. We chose to do the Chef’s choice menu and we enjoyed every part of the experience! I can’t wait to go back, it was so much fun to not know what was next, but every bite of food was delicious! We will most definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our breakfast! The sourdough pancakes were awesome! The decor is awesome and we loved the comfy couches! We will definitely will be back again! Love the location to the TCF Center.
The Chef's choice meal was wonderful. Course after course of fresh, delicious food, using unique ingredients and taste combinations. Some favorites: the petite Maurice wedge salad, the pork cheek medallions, grilled Brussels sprouts finished with a marvelous glaze, and the passion fruit cake with passion fruit mousse and coffee ice cream. The waitstaff were warm, helpful, and knowledgeable about all of our food choices.
Beautiful location, lots or energy, good food, but not fabulous food. I recommend lots of small dishes rather than the expense of a full entree.
The ambience in this restored firehouse attached to The Detroit Foundation Hotel is amazing. The food and drink menu was very creative and delicious. They staff genuinely seemed to enjoy working there with each other. This place is highly recommended.
This remake of a fire hall is a great surprise. The menu is unique, the quality of the food is fantastic and the service was impeccable. A bit pricey but the quality and the experience was worth it. A gem in downtown Detroit.
Was a decent lunch - bolognese was a bit salty to my taste, and a bit "watery" as well. Ambience was rustic, and had some charm to it.
It was our 58 wedding anniversary that day. We met at Hudson's and so we thoiught we'd try what the menu called a "J.L. Hudson Maurice Salad" How dissapointing! Not even close. No Iceberg lettuce, the ham, cheese and what little turkey there was was diced instead of in strips and the dressing was oil instead of creamy. And no roll was served with it.
Beautiful ambiance. Decently good food selection but not large portions. We unfortunately had terrible service. It took us an hour to get our appetizers. I hope this was a fluke cause the restaurant overall was very nice.
Waiter was trying to rush us out of the restaurant. Food was okay but prices were very high.
The tall young black lady that served me and my guest gave us exceptional service. Thank you.
Sorry I forgot your name.
A black man
Verry happy with a dry aged steak, the crispy caulifower is a must
Food and drinks were great! A "drink without a name" is AMAZING! Took my wife there for our anniversary and everyone from the host, waitress, food runners, and manager wished us a happy anniversary. Our deserts even had it written on the plate.
Small menu, but the options they did have were delicious and well plated. Will be returning.
The Food is good. The service was great. The ambiance is outstanding. This is my go to spot for a breakfast in downtown Detroit when I want to impress someone.
Great place to catch up with friends over drinks or meal
Beautiful and amazing. The ambience is spot on attractive. The service was friendly and the food delectable. A gem in the city. Would highly recommend. I can’t wait to go again ❤️
I've eaten here a number of times, but this past visit will be my last. Took my brother out for his Birthday and our server forgot to submit the entree orders for our party of 4. We received our hors d'oeuvre order, then after an hour the waiter brought us the dessert menu. We informed him we never received the entree. Had he come to check on us he would have know. The resolution offered was a free round of drinks or dessert. Unfortunately we were the only party left in the place, so didn't want to make their staff wait around. Waiter never apologized, or offered an explanation. They should have offered something more.
I absolutely love the brunch vibe & the delicious menu. Everyone treated us with kindness and with smiles from the get-go and our server was very informative and attentive. Thank you for a lovely "Girl's Brunch" experience!
it was weird. a special breakfast for 2 included 2 Sunnyside eggs, 2 pieces of toast, and tomato sauce. $25. not a particularly large breakfast for 2 people, nor was it particularly complex...if it weren't for the mimosa, I would have left hungry. nice ambiance. made reservations, why, I don't know. was shown a small table for 2 w/ a chair and bench. plenty of open booths available. asked to be seated in an empty one, and was obliged.
I was out of town for Valentines Day, so we booked for the 15th. To our surprise, they were still running a multi-course, price fixed menu. There was a ton of food! It opened with oysters, fresh baked bread with a honey ricotta, then a brussel sprout salad and a mushroom broth with duck confit tortellini.. Next was a saffron and seafood risotto. We both opted for the short rib entree and it was spectacular! Desert was a heart shaped eclair. Can’t wait to go back and try the regular menu!
