The American Local is a unique bar and restaurant offering Asian-inspired and American comfort food, all made with locally sourced ingredients. Open Tuesday through Sunday, this "new West drinking food" restaurant was named as a 2014 Top 5 Restaurant by Willamette Week. The American Local is owned by Chef Chris Whaley, who has more than 20 years of experience at both Michelin-starred restaurants and small operations, and Jenny Nickolaus, who runs the front of house. Menu items include fresh, simple choices in four categories: fish, veggies, "sticks" or skewers, and comfort, with dishes such as smoked trout tartare, wild watercress salad, Korean rice cake skewers and fried macaroni and cheese. The American Local takes a limited number of larger party reservations, but seating is otherwise on a first come, first serve basis.
