Still great but not as good as before. The tilefish and quail superb; the duck quite ordinary and the smoked trout "mousse," really a pate, tasted like a deli purchase. All list as "large entrees" we're about 10 percent above Asheville prices. All were $30 and up. $32 for duck?! No.

1. Delicious fried oysters with a delectable, nearly whipped remoulade should have included lemon wedges on the plate.
2. The Brussels sprouts were very good, even Moreno, cold, the next day. (And if I brought food home, you can conclude that the portions are not too small.)
3. Trout was cooked perfectly; it was served in a bowl of clam chowder including clams in the shell--this was very pretty and delicious, but the diced potatoes were almost flavorless. They shouldn't be in there merely for texture.
4. I simply did not have the jaw strength to masticate the rather large leaves of Swiss chard.
5. Dessert menu did not tempt us, though we were open to it.
6. It all ended on a rather sad note, meal-wise, when a tepid cup of coffee was served.

Fantastic menu with even better service. This is a very chill spot in West Asheville that my wife and I will now be putting into our rotation when we visit. Make reservations now!

An Ashevile "landmark"... low-slung, funky, old, painted diamond-patterned structure on busy street with consistently delicious, creatively envisioned and prepared food. Croque Madame an unusual offering, and so delicious! Pair it (or a steak/chop) with the arugula salad. Cheese board is a super starter. Not much elbow room inside because it's a small place, but clientele is adult and conversation is easy. Always booked, so call far ahead for a reservation.

Absolutely fabulous food! Very small dining area, open kitchen, so noisy. We would go again if we visit Asheville again!

The Admiral is one of my two favorite restaurants in Asheville. The food is outstanding--both full entrees and choices of small plates. It is always a pleasure to recommend this restaurant to friends and acquaintances--and then to hear them rave after taking the advice. The staff is well trained, attentive, and helpful in describing menu changes.

Food was excellent as usual, kind of a dive bar look on the outside but always has great food.
Everyone should give the Admiral a try. Reserve early or you won't get in

Best food we have had when eating out in a long time. Appetizer of fried oysters in cornmeal batter delicious. Cocktail was great- can’t remember name of drink , but was first drink listed on menu. Got ribeyes as entrees and perfectly cooked Brasstown beef. Portions large- no room for dessert, but will try next time !!

Enjoyed the food but I made a few special requests which I told could be accommodated (based on dietary restrictions, not pickiness) & still ended up w/some sort of meat in my scallops. Had to pick thru it. I was too exhausted to complain. That's my own fault. The parking situation sucks.

Enjoyed all our dishes except the mushrooms that were served with the scallops. I'm typically a big fan of mushrooms but the ones served with this dish did not pair nicely with the scallops at all. Thumbs down for that.

We've been to the Admiral many times over the past 11 years and our opinion has never changed. It is by far one of the finest restaurants in the Asheville area. Every dish has been superb and the service has always excelled.

My husband and I and our two teenaged kids went to dinner for my birthday. We had a reservation for a Tuesday at 7. We ordered four entrees and 2 small plates and sort of shared everything. The Rib eye with a simple demi glace was tender and perfectly cooked and the potato gratin with mornay sauce went perfectly with it. The seared duck breast with a warm lentil salad was very tender and the salad was succulent and subtle. The Bouillabaisse had very delicious fish but the sauce was oddly unbalanced and a bit like red pepper coulis rather than a broth and the potatoes were cold as if they had been precooked and added in at the last moment. The pork chop was beautifully seared and succulent on a bed of delicious creamy polenta -- however the apple cider vinegar kimchi sauce was simply sour and not very complex and the Brussels sprouts were undercooked and bland for my taste. The small plates were both amazing: seared scallops with mixed sautéed wild mushrooms was to die for, and the braised short ribs with turnip purée was pure heaven -- just yummy! These small plates are also very decent portions for a small entrée. We had three desserts and all were exceptional -- dark chocolate torte with cherry ice cream and a raspberry puree was amazing, the crème caramel was the best pudding I've had in a long time and went extraordinarily well with simple fresh berries although I didn't expect it to?-- the salted Oreo ice cream with cacao nibs sounded terrible but was delicious! We drank homemade sodas from the bar which were delicious and went well with the food and kids had fresh brewed herbal tea which was perfect. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and competent and very on it without ever seeming overbearing. A wonderful evening and next time we'd like to try more appetizers and small plates.

It was a very delightful evening. the drinks were tasty and the food was marvelous. Service was helpful and accommodating. The only suggestion is to turn down the music which was too loud.
