Sooo good! Came from NY and loved it.
I have been to The Admiral several times. Last night the short ribs flavor overall dish was awesome yet my girlfriends chicken was tough and difficult to cut. We left most of it on the place. They were busy and service was scattered. Normally the Admiral is special and you don't have to ask for water.
Great place to gather friends around great food in casual surrounding. Great cocktails.
The food, the service, and the atmosphere were excellent. I spoke to our waiter and he assured us that The Admiral is taking patron safety very seriously.. Thank you!!!
I continue to be delighted by the service, ambiance, and (most importantly), the food! The Admiral is a lovely, small venue, where you are treated like a neighbor.
Terrific meal and great service. The seating was great beside the fire. Great place.
So sad to say this, but I can’t imagine going back any time soon. The waitstaff did their best but were overwhelmed with the growth of the customer base. Initial drinks took well over a half hour to arrive. Food was slow in coming and delivered to the wrong diner. For example, a waiter who hadn’t taken our orders brought two ribeyes, didn’t know who they were for (delivering one initially to the vegetarian) and couldn’t say which was the medium and which was the medium rare. None of the dishes made any of us say “wow.” The Admiral used to be amazing, and I wish them luck in building up the capacity to take care of the additional customers they’ve taken on.
Birthday. Gratis goodies before and after dinner. 🤗
The server came over and asked who at our table had an allergy to bell peppers and I indicated it was me. Then they proceeded to bring a dish to the table that had peppers in it and didn’t warn me. Fortunately I asked and found out it indeed was in the dish. My husband ordered sweetbreads and was served rabbit. We had to flag down others servers because ours disappeared until the end of the evening. The food was not as good as it had been in the past. All in all a disappointing meal for a good deal of money.
We had not been to the Admiral in years but had guests from NYC and wanted to show them something typically Asheville but with delicious food.
Two of us dined on the "tilefish" which was bland and overcooked at best. Another guest had beef that was "OK".
The salads were very good but not good enough to save the evening. Our server was attentive.
For the prices and the reputation that this restaurant has enjoyed, it was a big disappointment for us.
Delicious, interesting locally sourced food with good service and a cozy vibe.
We visit Asheville occasionally and have been to The Admiral on every visit since 2016. It has been one of our favorite restaurants. This visit was very disappointing. Our server was very unattentive and became defensive when we asked about our order. We waited an extremely long time for our food, while other tables around us were being served much more quickly. When the food finally arrived, we did not think it was anywhere close to The Admiral's usual standards. All in all, the entire experience was very disappointing, and we will most likely not go back.
The best dining experience I’ve had in the last year. Unassuming on the outside (it’s a cinder block building after all), but definitely delivers on the inside!
We had a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. The size of the group changed two times the day of the reservation. They adapted easily.
My husband and I loved our date night at the Admiral! We had cocktails, an hors d'oeuvre, a few small plates and then shared an entree. We also splurged on a dessert. We couldn't get enough. Each dish was better than the last. We left well fed and ready to go back for more!
Celebrating my wife’a birthday. Table was ready when we arrived for our reservation and ambiance was amazing. Server didn’t seem too lively but gave good service. We ordered some cocktails which were really good, as well as the smoked almonds and ham with marmalade apps. Both were tasty. My wife ordered the snapper entree and I got the short rib. The snapper was bland and dry. We sent it back, which we rarely do. The short rib was good, so she ordered that as a replacement for her fish. They did take the fish off our bill, which was nice. Overall, our experience didn’t match the expectations based on high reviews of this place. Not sure we’ll be back.
I love the Admiral. For years they have produced the finest dishes in an intimate setting that is perfect for an anniversary, birthday or just a nice night out.
The Admiral is one of a kind- the staff are attentive and courteous, the food is exceptional. Always.
The location and outside of the building belie the extraordinary dining experience. Don't be fooled by the cement block building on a run down corner of Haywood Road and Michigan Avenue. The Admiral always delivers!
I HAD A RIBEYE STEAK DONE MEDIUM RARE AND IT WAS SOMEWHAT GRISSLY AND HARD TO CUT . tHE STEAK WAS RATHER HARD TO CHEW BECAUSE OF ALL THE GRISSLE. MY WIFE HAD SHORT RIBS AND THEY WERE VERY GOOD. I WILL HAVE TO REMEMBER NOT TO ORDER THE RIBEYE ANY MORE.
Excellent service and delicious, interesting offerings as always
Always great meal and drinks.
Always love The Admiral
Beyond delicious. Food so good it makes you want to cry with joy. Also the bartenders are top notch and the drinks are amazing. A must visit on the list for anyone coming to Asheville.
Food, drinks, and service were great!
Spent our 5th wedding anniversary here. This is our 4th anniversary dinner in a row and they have all been perfect!
Perfect date night restaurant! Service, food and atmosphere outstanding.
Always a must when we visit Asheville. Outstanding service and food. And the heat was on which seems rather rare in Asheville these days. Glad the arugula salad has stayed on the menu. We'll be back. Thanks.
We stopped in for our first visit on a snow night Only 2 tables were seated including us. So it was quiet -food was good. Drinks good. Service good
Will return
A woman in the Grove Park Galleries recommended this place to us and we decided to take her up on it as it was more of a local spot. We are so glad we listened to her, amazing meal!
Another fantastic meal!
Excellent choice in appetizers, small plates and large plates. Our favorite was the cauliflower. Great place to order plates and share.
Charming place with great food. Small plates of interesting food to share. Innovative entrees. Compact menu of exciting and well prepared food.
Such a disappointment. We no longer live in Asheville but remembered the Admiral as one of our favorite restaurants there. No longer. What happened. Four of us shared several dishes from a less imaginative menu than we’d been used to, none of which were better than mediocre.
This was our Valentine dinner - a few days late. It was a quiet, rainy night, but warm and intimate inside. The service was wonderful and my pan fried snapper was delicious. A new to cheese on the arugula salad made it very special - Humboldt Fog. All in all a very nice evening
Perfect to bring the in-laws that where visiting Asheville.
Date vacation weekend- my partners birthday
Always look forward to returning to the admiral. The food is stellar with a laid back vibe.
In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in North Carolina.
Best Valentine’s ever!
absolutely amazing in every sense and aspect. cannot wait to go back
A cozy place with an open kitchen and a very creative menu. I would definitely go back!
