Tender is closing so I would not recommend to a friend. We went back for one last hurrah and the menu was very limited. The food was decent, but a little on the cheaply made side for the price (i.e our potato skins were commercially-made steak fries with sour cream and bacon on top. Not a quality I would expect in a place like that). Also - initially - our waiter was very good and on point, but about half way through he disappeared and we couldn't get our drinks nor desert. I will miss my memories there, but given its current state, I am not surprised it is closing.
Food menu was very limited and only ok. The real reason to go is the cocktails which are delicious.
Best damn burger in town!
The location is good, right in the heart of Lawrenceville, but parking could be an issue depending on when you visit. I was fortunately able to find a spot on Butler St. I had made a reservation and recommend you do the same. The space inside the restaurant is very small and I only saw about 12 tables, mostly 2 tops. The service at this restaurant is top notch! Super friendly and attentive without being overly attentive. At first glance I thought the menu was limited and very basic, but the overall quality and flavor of the dishes proved to me that sticking to what you excel at is a good idea. We started out with the potato skins appetizer. Although I was expecting more than just the potatoes with chives and a dipping sauce, the flavor and texture were great. She had the burger and I had the NY Strip. The burger had the best flavors of any burger ever. The server said the secret "pub sauce" gives it its unique flavor. It was amazing. The NY Strip had excellent flavor as well. It was cooked perfectly rare as I had requested. The steak came with some fingerling potatoes and an eggplant medley which when paired with the steak created the most unique and flavorful combination. I loved it. The beer and cocktail selections are good too. We were too full for desert. Overall this was a great experience. When I first saw the basic menu, I was a bit disappointed, but once I received my food and tasted the quality and flavorful execution I was won over. The service was top notch. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I will certainly plan to return.
Monday April 3rd was my first time there and I absolutely loved it. The service was great and the cocktails were amazing. I am sad that they will be closing soon. If you have time to visit before April 21st it will definitely be a treat
Great place! Food is wonderful and the drinks are fantastic. I love that they limit the number of people allowed in the bar so you aren't crowded and having people all crunched together.
The restaurant has an innovative menu of interesting small plates--cauliflower with buffalo sauce, fried artichoke hearts, hot olives with rose ary, and radishes were our choice. The only main course was a wonderful hamburger with greens, cheese, and other toppings, as well as a special. Great for grazing. The bar had more liquor bottles than i have ever seen with an interesting list of special cocktails. The apple crisp with homemade salted caramel ice cream was outstanding. Our waiter Mark was fantastic. A great place for a casual meal, heavy on small plates.
Drinks are always amazing! My absolute favorite place because of service, consistency, servers knowledge of menu, uniqueness, flavors, and overall care taken to prepare each cocktail. Never a disappointment.
Really great food and wonderful, interesting cocktails. We went with a friend who doesn't drink and she loved it too even though she drank diet cola all night.
One of the most pleasant experiences I've ever had in the city of Pittsburgh. The staff was polite and professional, the food was amazing, and the drinks were right on! I can't wait to go back.
I met a colleague for a business dinner. We ended up sitting at the bar, our request, and had a great time. The bartenders were thoughtful and knew when, and more importantly when not, to interrupt our conversation.
Drinks were great and the food was very good. I recommend Tender. The only negative comment I have is that parking is an issue they have to eventually address.
We love it at Tender! The food and vibe are great!
The last time we were there are table was not ready so that asked us to please have a seat at the bar and have a cocktail on them. It does not get better than that. Great service!
We meet friends for drinks and food. Had never been before. We loved the cozy table and the attention our waiter gave us!! The drinks were excellent and we also enjoyed the food! One of the best hamburgers I have had in a while. It was a fun evening!
We brought my parents from out of town for drinks & snacks and loved our visit! We tried a number of different drinks- all yummy! Our server (Sam) was great! Knowledgable and very friendly!
We came here for your restaurant week special, and the experience was great. I have only been here before for drinks, and I was looking forward to trying your food. The service was fast and polite. The burger was amazing. My only criticism is that I wish the burger had come with a small side dish. Overall, I was really impressed with my Tender experience!
Good food, good drinks, great service! I would recommend this place to anyone.
Great! Waitress was wonderful. Food excellent as always. Drinks too.
Great server. Nice ambiance.
The menu was cut back significantly since the last time I went there and I was disappointed. I was looking forward to eating another great meal there but the menu was too small so we had to go to another restaurant to eat. The cocktails were great but a little pricey. I would go back for cocktails sometime but would rather eat at a restaurant with more food options.
Enjoy the drinks at this place but don't go here hungry. Not sure when, but since our last visit they have honed the menu down to absolutely nothing ... a burger, some small plates and a few "specials" ... totally lame!🙁Sorry but unless we're heading someplace else, probably won't be back.
Inventive food and cocktail menu
Limited menu but very interesting options. Drink menu is fabulous and the cheese plate was delicious. The veggie sandwich had too much bread, would have loved it with a less dry bun option. My friend had the special and enjoyed it.
Considering there wasn't anyone there- why couldn't we get decent service? Bummer of an experience. Can't say we will rush back. It seems like the restaurants in the business of serving liquor and not food.
Very dissapointed in food menu. There were only four entree options. The drink menu was multiple pages and the food meny was half a page.
We loved the drink specialties at Tender, especially a tequila drink call McFly! The food was good; not great but good. The only drawback is that the dining area is WAY too dark. There are small votives but it was so dark we could hardly see each other's faces. That is not ambience to me; it could be such a cool space if it had more illumination. That's our only complaint.
The craft cocktails were great and our server was attentive and helpful.
My son's meal, the chicken and pappardelle - which he was very excited about - tasted like someone put tomato paste on top of chicken and noodles and sent it out. He didn't eat more than 2 bites. My boyfriend's bun for his burger was dry and he said the burger was just "ok".
The salmon was OUTSTANDING, however, and I cleaned my plate!
Fantastic drinks! My fav place in Pittsburgh for a cocktail, but the food fell far since the last time that we've been there. Starters were good, but the main course wasn't worth the price and just wasn't very good, even if you take in to account the atmosphere.
Our waiter, Sam, was fabulous! Great drink recommendations! Food and drinks were fabulous. Food menu is limited and cocktail menu is very extensive but entire party was able to find both food and drink choices that were great! Will definitely return! Thanks for a great night! 🍷🍴🍸🍹🍽
We had an amazing dinner at Tender, this is the second time and I have nothing bad to say. I am always pleased with their new and unusual cocktail creations and everything meal we got in our party of 5 was great. It was a little too dark in the back room and a bit cold, but other than that it was a stellar night.
Great cocktail selection, but not a great place for craft beers. Menu was a little bit lacking in my opinion, but I was highly satisfied with what I picked. The menu changes too. Our waiter was friendly and personable. Overall we will return.
Fantastic place for light bite and amazing cocktails!
The restaurant offered a special menu for Restaurant week. We started with cocktails, which are always good there. My starter was salmon mousse on shredded filo. It looked exquisite though was impossible to eat neatly. The flavour was wonderful, though. My husband praised his watermelon gazpacho; though he told me I wouldn't like it as it was quite spicy. For the main course, I ordered a pork chop with various accompaniments including roasted root vegetables. My husband ordered the chicken. The waitress came out with our meals, put them on the table and walked away. Normally, we would expect them to come back a few minutes in and ask how everything was. They didn't, and we were in a back room and didn't see her again. After a couple of minutes, my husand decided just to eat his. After we had finished, the waitress came back and started to take the plates. We have 2 comments, I said. She stopped and smiled. One, my roasted vegetables were seared on the outside and raw on the inside, which is why I left them - raw rutabaga and raw parsnip aren't good. Oh, OK, she said. My husband added that the salmon was very good but he'd ordered the chicken. She looked surprised, mumbled something about not writing it down, and off she went. She came back with the bill - they had comped one entire meal and given us a couple of tokens for cocktails. Oh, and this time she apologised. So, a mixed experience.
We had dined at Tender a couple of times previously and very much enjoyed the food and drinks. This time we had dinner as part of Pittsburgh Restaurant Week and our experience was very much mixed. While the drinks were top notch as always, the food was hit and miss. My salmon dish was tasty, but my wife's salad was dry and the dressing was all vinegar and no oil. In addition it seemed that her noodles and chicken dish had been under a heat lamp way too long and was not very flavorful.
Great gazpacho, olive appetizer was simple and delicious. This visit, among many others, I had the Tender Burger, but the chicken and pork dishes at neighboring tables were receiving great reviews.
Service is always friendly and prompt.
Attended restaurant week and the pork chop was horrible, extremely dry, inedible. It took over an hour to receive meal. Service was very good however and we were given a slight discount for delay. Still would not return given food quality.
Mixology. That is what would say. The drinks were expertly made. The food was quite good. However, I would likely return to indulge at the bar with an appetizer rather than dinner. All in rounded establishment.
The menu selection was limited. The salmon was way over-cooked and dry. It didn't taste fresh. The veggie burger was good but it was mostly all bun and short on the mushrooms.
Great food and service
Great place. Very hip with an excellent bar. Ariel was our bartender - very friendly and knowledgeable. The Fireman's Manhattan was just right. So was the second and third one ;)
