Tempest has been named the country’s #1 new restaurant by readers of USA Today’s travel guide, 10Best. Located on Market Street, in the former historic Harriott Pinckney Home for Sailors, next door to sister location Church and Union Charleston. Tempest features hyper-local, sustainable Coastal Modern-American food, with a seasonal menu curated by Chef Adam Hodgson and Bravo Top Chef Alum Chef Jamie Lynch.

Amazing food and service. Would go back again and again. I had the catch of the day and my husband had the short rib. For my birthday they gave me a free dessert and delicious bread and butter to start the meal. The service was exceptional. Highly recommend if you are in Charleston.

I might have had higher expectations so it was a bit of a letdown. Food was ok. Meat was chewy and chicken not as flavorful as I had hoped. Average is what I’d rate it.

Wonderful experience at Tempest. Our server, Declyn, was wonderfully attentive to every detail. Roasted oysters were spectacular. Cacio Pepe, bolognese and flounder entrees were remarkable.

This is a very small restaurant. There is a downstairs with the bar that has some style to it but the seating is very limited and there are few tables to occupy downstairs. We were taken to the upstairs which was plain and boring. The upstairs is more suited for large groups and parties which was made more obvious when parties of 8 and more started to fill up the area. Our server was Maya who was very nice and explained everything well. The menu is small and limited unless you love fish. However, once we ordered we felt the meal came out too fast We sat down at 5:15 and were out before 6:00!!! I ordered shrimp cocktail and filet mignon. The shrimp cocktail was very generous in the quantity. However, it was covered in a heavy paprika that overwhelmed the appetizer. My filet mignon was nothing to shout about. It was cooked perfectly but not flavorful. It was served with mashed potatoes and, even though the mashed potatoes were tasty, the portion was so small it made me wonder if they were on a tight budget. Ron had the fried calamari with a Lemon aioli. He said it was very good the portion for one was perfect. For his main course, he had the steak frites served with shoestring French fries and an au poivre sauce. He liked the fries and thought the steak was good but nothing to shout about. The prices were reasonable, but where they gouge you are the prices on the drinks. Each side car I ordered cost over $22. I had two without knowing the price and Ron had two glasses of wine. Our drink tab came to over $76!!! Our meal was only about $180, however, once you factor in the drinks and tip we were well over $300 for the two of us. We walked out feeling that we didn't have a nice night out at all. I don't mind paying a hefty amount if I have a good time. In this case, I was very disappointed and felt cheated on a nice night out. So would we go back? No! I have experienced Tempest once and that was enough.

We strive to provide a great experience for all our guests, and your feedback is invaluable to us. I wish my team was aware of this adverse experience because we would've been happy to make adjustments and improve on your experience in real time. We reviewed your feedback today in our mgmt. meeting and put your feedback into action. We are sorry we did not meet& exceed your expectations. We also seemed to have inadvertently charged for Courvoisier cognac instead of set side car price. We have entered a partial refund to make up for this mistake. Thank you for the feedback. This place was fabulous! Grace recommendations did not disappoint! She was fabulous, courteous, knowledgeable and personable. The food was amazing. The roasted oysters…. Would have eaten 100! The flounder was delicious. The Harriet drink - I’ve never drank a beverage so quickly. It was top notch. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to bring a crew!

This was great! I think I should have got a table inside vs the street (flys when food came that kinda killed the vibe). Great spot!

Everything was great. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. My only issue was that I did not realize the dining was on the second floor and they did not have an elevator. My mother just had Total Knee replacement but she insisted on going up the stairs. It was good physical therapy for her. Also great smores cheesecake with an espresso martini for dessert.

Food was definitely overhyped. Not good at all. The service on the other hand was top notch and really enjoyed the getting a flower at the end of our meal.
