The food was great- but terrible and slow service.
Great food and service!
Great restaurant but always hard when the servers doesn't stop by for 25 minutes to check up on you and instantly says its not her fault but the hotel is 100% and only two servers are on.
Poor Service. Order Starters, pizza for the table and entrees. All the food came at once. Some was good, some was overcooked and some were almost cold.
Very authentic Tuscan fare in a chic atmosphere. Really delightful.
It felt like 2 waitresses were silently fighting over us, without explaining what was going on or who won! We did not get the star performer in the end. They were out of their red wine selection by the glass, so few choices, and hard to tell what the price would be. It was marked as a birthday celebration. No one asked us or said happy birthday. No candles in a dessert. We probably won't go back. Clearly they rely on their hotel captive audience. It has so much potential.
Great spot - upscale Italian.
Food was good. Service felt like a catered wedding meal, but maybe that's because we were there during restaurant week.
Excellent food and wonderful service. We will definitely be back.
When I first walked in, the whole restaurant smelled off like it had been mopped with old, soapy water. It was off putting and was not a good first impression. When you enter the restaurant, you actually have to walk through to the hotel entrance to get to the host stand which was confusing to say the least. Second, I had been waiting quite a while before I first saw my waitress. When we wanted a bottle of Chianti, we were told it was out of stock which we would have preferred to be told upfront. When we told our waitress that we’d prefer not to choose the more expensive Chianti which was available and that we’d forego the wine altogether, she came back and said the bar had the last bottle of the original bottle that we wanted.
On a positive note, the mussels were great and had a good broth. The bread that came with them was delicious as well but there was too much of it. For my entree, I chose the duck pappardelle which smelled awful like the duck might have gone bad. It was a challenge to attempt to eat it and I gave up after a few bites. The pasta was overdone as well. So disappointing for an Italian restaurant. My partner had the spinach ravioli which came with two. He said there was not much seasoning and that you got all the salt from the cheese of which they had been heavy handed with.
For dessert, I had the fig panna cotta and my partner had the almond pear cake. He said the cake was too dry and he wished the almond cake through a little more. The pears he said were delicious. My panna cotta was good, although a little heavy. The sauce was delicious and I love the idea of the ginger crumbs - perfect for the season.
Overall, I’m not sure that I will be back. There are much better Italian restaurants here in the metro area so Tavola will not be missed. It is fine for a hotel restaurant and its guests, but others might be better off staying away.
Food was totally good. Service was totally slow. I think this is a new restaurant, so if they can get their service down, this place will be excellent. Please don't keep your patrons waiting 30 minutes for a drink! I normally like to have 2 drinks with my meal and I had to cancel my 2nd drink due to the slow slow service. Hope you guys pick up the pace here!
The website fails to mention Sunday morning brunch during football season is replaced by a game day buffet. First server would not give us drink menus silverware water or coffee until she said the bar was caught up. There were about 10 other people in the restaurant. Second server was better but it was still an awkward setup. Food was pretty good for a buffet. Will have to check it out for dinner and the standard brunch menu looked interesting but was unavailable.
A nice option near The Armory.
Although open for nearly a year, there still is some polish that would elevate the dining experience.
1. Staffing seemed low for the number of tables with occupancy (and a known event occurring at The Armory). Our server was very enthusiastic, but there was a delay in our ability to place our order and a glass of wine ordered before dinner arrived when almost done.
2. Our meals were tasty, but would have been more awesome w/ some spices and they were cold in the center. It seemed like the pasta was precooked (which is often true at restaurants) but when re-heated was done w/ lackluster effect. Additionally, very few vegetarian options or substitutes available.
We will consider revisiting Tavola in the future, but will likely try other neighborhood options first.
Loved the service and the food was amazing.
Service was slow and off, ie cocktails did not arrive until the food did, and then all the courses arrived at once. They really need to work this out, because the food was otherwise good.
Great ambiance and service and good food. Bit smaller portions, but decent.
Thank you for your five star review! We are glad you enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Can't wait to see you again soon!
Service is great -spaghetti dish was great, ravioli was bit hard to cut- would be more appropriate to serve on flat plate versus bowl. We like this restaurant, prices reasonable, ambiance nice, deserts great , just improve raviola
We are very grateful for your visit to Tavola and that you took the time to provide feedback! We always appreciate hearing from our guests. We are so glad to know you enjoyed your experience and hope to see you again soon.
Not Too impressed! Menu wasn’t too exciting and lack of non alcoholic drink selections.
Thank you for taking a moment to share your feedback with us. We are very sorry to hear that the menu did not exceed your expectations. Executive Chef Jon Kopacz has recently joined our team and is revamping our menu! I hope you will give us a try again soon.
Waiter was nice, food was great
Thank you for the five star review! We are thrilled you enjoyed the service and food. We hope you will dine again with us soon!
Nice hotel restaurant with some very interesting menu items and a vibrant bar
We loved it! The food was amazing & beautiful! Our server, Ashton was excellent!
The food and drinks at Tavola are amazing. However, the service is not nearly as good. Many basics of restaurant management are missing. With two entrances, patrons don't know which way to enter - simple signs can fix it. I have dined at Tavola 6 times since they opened. Servers get orders wrong or don't communicate effectively with the kitchen. Sometimes patrons are abandoned in the dining room - servers should check on diners more often and understand simple cues as when to take orders, refill drinks or clear items. Because the hosts are often missing, servers do not know when patrons have been seated. I will keep coming back because I expect this feedback to reach the owners who will establish better restaurant management practices.
It took 20 minutes to get a beer in the restaurant and there was only one other table with customers. The waitress said the bar patrons are a priority over the restaurant patrons. Go figure! She told us she gave the bartender "her kid look" and it still took another 10 minutes. Our glasses were empty and we had to ask for refills twice. Isn't this how a restaurant makes money -- sell more beer/wine? Our cocktails and dinner took 3 hours. Very disappointing. Food was just okay.
I am very disappointed to hear about your experience with us at Tavola. The bar patrons do not take priority over any other patrons, we respect all of our guests and want to offer exceptional service to each. Please know we will be using this a teachable moment for staff. We do hope you give us another chance, thank you for taking time out of your day to let us know of your experience.
We had such a wonderful dinner here a few nights ago we decided to try their Sunday brunch to see if they were consistently good. YES THEY WERE!! Not crowded around 11 am for brunch so we had no problem getting in. We had four adults plus a high chair for our grandson. Great omelettes to order, French toast that was more like desert 😃, awesome grilled shrimp with polenta and Tuscan Country breakfast. Excellent service. We will return!!
Thank you for such a glowing review! We cannot wait to see you again soon!
Went for diner while in town on business. When we arrived we were told that a large group (24) had just ordered so it would be at least an hour before we were able to get any food. Decided to be seated and have a cocktail and relax. Excellent service staff took care of us, taking our order and bringing out some fresh bread, dipping olive oil and our salads and the wine we ordered. Shortly afterwards our appetizer appeared and then our main dish’s arrived in in a timely manor. The menu was fabulous and the food lived up to its delicious description. We enjoyed a wonderful Caesar Salad with excellent home made dressing, fire roasted prawns, and then Wild Boar Pappardelle finishing with a rhubarb frozen dessert. This was truly a wonderful dining experience and we will return with friends to share this great experience!!
Thank you for the excellent review. We are thrilled you enjoyed yourselves. See you soon!
Service was good, but the food was just okay. Out of 3 courses, the tomato basil soup was the standout. We ate the Restaurant Week menu, but I don’t think those dishes were the best from their standard menu.
Thanks for giving us a shot during restaurant week Danielle. Our full menu boasts many other offerings we hope you'll have a chance to try, see you soon!
We visited Tavola for the MSP Magazine Restaurant week, i didnt look much at the pricing on the main menu, so I cant speak to the pricing outside the prix fixe me i which was An excellent value. The atmosphere is great, we enjoyed our meals very much, I had a Caesar salad to start and the pappardelle pasta, I felt that The noodles were much wider that typical which made it a little awkward to eat, kind of like eating whole lasagne noodles, but the pasta was flavorful and the pasta tasted fresh and texture was perfect. We both had the rhubarb semifreddo for dessert which was amazing- I would go Back just for that alone! Our server was very friendly and had great timing, she was right there anytime we needed something and the food was courses perfectly we never felt rushed. I driver bu this place every day on my way to work and had no idea it existed, it’s a great little hidden gem- worth venturing to east downtown for.
We sure do love hand made pasta so ours is a little different than you may be used to. We are glad you enjoyed your restaurant week meal! As for dessert - yum! Cannot go wrong with a fresh cool ending. We hope to see you again soon!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and service was good, aside from him the experience was very mediocre. The menu was not overly impressive. Food was good but not overly memorable.
We strive to make every experience a memorable one. We are sorry to hear the food did not do that for you! Please know we make our pastas and sauces from scratch here at Tavola, just like grandma would make! We hope you give us another try soon!
One entree was good the other was average at best. Wait staff wasn’t bad just not impressive. Everything was just ok/good. Nothing fantastic.
They have weird 2 person tables where you sit at a very awkward ways away from your friend/spouse. It was so uncomfortable we had to ask to move tables.
Thank you for letting us know of your experience. We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your table, but know we want you to be comfortable so we are glad you asked to be moved. We strive for unique homemade pastas and sauces so sorry we didn't make it a memorable experience for you. Give us another shot and we certainly will!
Very slow service, waited over 30 minutes for drinks, food was fine but not memorable. Nice space, good wine list, drinks overly strong.
We apologize about the slow service and wait on drinks - we understand that is unacceptable. Thank you for letting us know of your experience, please know we will take the comments to heart. We sure hope you give us another chance!
We went during Restaurant week, and though the food was good, it wasn't anything extraordinary. It was not worth the drive, traffic parking cost, and extra DT Mpls tax. When you include those with a tip, that adds 50% to the bill. Not Taviola's fault, it just is that way when dining in Minneapolis. To pay that premium, the food quality needs to be better.
Thank you for giving us a try, we are sorry to hear that your visit was anything less than exceptional. Please know we take your words to heart!
My guests and I enjoyed our evening. We sat in the large front room, where we could enjoy our conversation, without shouting. Appetizer with foccacia and garlic puree and burrata was wonderful! The salads were good, not over dressed. My entree, Carbonara, was disappointing. The guancile was mostly fat and tasted a bit ripe. The pasta itself was good, but overall, with the egg and cream, a bit too much sauce. The sorbets were outstanding! Loved my grapefruit with the candied rind. Disappointment of the evening, was lack of coffee. My guest wanted a decaf coffee, the waiter said it was not fresh, so he didnt have any. It was still early in the evening and he could have made a fresh pot. Then, I asked if they could make an espresso with decaf beans. No! An Italian restaurant that doesn't have an espresso machine, should be ashamed.
Thank you for stopping in to Tavola. I am glad you enjoyed your appetizers and sorbet. Please know we have taken your carbonara review to heart and are looking in to it. I am also deeply sorry you did not have a proper coffee service, that has been addressed! I assure you we have an espresso machine, we do not have decaf espresso at this time, but are working on that as well. Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your experience, we sure hope to see you again soon!
Our server Farah was great- I’m not a huge Italian food eater, but would definitely recommend this place!
Thank you for your glowing review! We hope to see you again soon!
This was the best service we have received so far at Tavola. The food has always been excellent. The wait staff has improved the pacing and attentiveness. Would recommend!
Thank you for the glowing review and taking time out of your day to leave us one! We are happy to hear you enjoyed yourself and cannot wait to see you again soon!
The service was terrible, the food and selection was not very good. The appetizers were awful. Pizza was rubber.
We are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy the food an had terrible service. Please know we take these comments seriously and will use them as a teachable moment for the staff. Thank you for trying us out we hope you can give us another chance!
Waiters were not helpful even though only two tables in the restaurant were occupied. Menu was limited. Run-of-the-mill. Not a special place. Also, it was very cold in the restaurant and we were not offered another table, even though we asked.
They tried too hard on the food, simple is sometimes better. Burrata could have been simple with just tomatoes but it had olives mixed with the tomatoes which tasted very weird. Artichokes tasted like it was out of a can and were mixed with other things that didn’t go with simple grilled artichokes. Three cheese Risotto had mussels in it which made it taste like a tuna fish hot dish and it did not taste like risotto, rather rice. The restaurant was not very busy yet they seated a party of 2 right next to us when they could have been seated at any of 10 other open tables and given us each some more privacy. I rarely leave feedback on restaurants but this one was so bad that I had to say something. On a positive note, I had their meat pizza for lunch earlier in the day and it was very good.
Food was ok. Manager was very sweet.
Food was really mediocre. Service was slow. Would not recommend
Food was excellent. Large portions. Try the mussels, delish.
Service was slow - waited a little too long in getting drinks and water refills. We were a table of 9 so had alot going on. Staff was friendly.
I would definitely go again!
JudH, thank you for letting us know how your experience was. We are so glad you enjoyed the mussels, that is definitely a house favorite! We are sorry you waited too long for water and drinks, we will improve upon that for next time!
