Distinguished Chef Jose Duarte delights with a very unique and unusual marriage between Italian Cuisine and Peruvian Cuisine. Skip Valentine's Day Dinner. Taranta normally has a great menu with fair prices but they, like so many in the North End, take advantage of diners of Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was decent, it's a great restaurant but the normal white tablecloths were covered in white paper, no crayons in sight. The tables were all set for 2, but they were stacked too close for comfort and we ended up hardly being able to talk and enjoy each other.

Our server was polite, timely, and overall very helpful so he still received a full 20%+ tip despite the overall experience. The main complaint was the food. Pre-Fixed menu looked great at first, good variety and quality ingredients. The end result disappointed. The Beef Tenderloin had clearly been par-cooked to speed up service. You could see where the cooking twine had been wrapped. Normally I wouldn't complain about a cooking method if the end result was decent. I ended up with a gray, overcooked exterior that was difficult to chew wrapped around a completely raw, not medium rare, interior. The sides on the entree clearly were cooked in mass, like a catered meal. Desserts were decent but overall it came nowhere near the value for $70 per person.

Taranta is still a good restaurant and I am torn leaving this review, but I don't want other diners expecting a romantic night out to be disappointed as I was.

This was the best meal I’ve had in I don’t know how long. The gnocchi were absolutely delicious. The menu is at once familiar and creative and every dish is thoughtful and fun. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending to others. Take the time to read about the chef on their website, great story and great ethos for the restaurant. Very impressive place all around.

Creative mix of Peruvian and Italian cuisine. Great wine list, fun cocktails (all Pisco based). Paiche (Amazon river fish) was SO GOOD. Friends had mushroom and truffle pasta, casava root gnocchi, sweet potato ravioli, and steak. Everyone LOVED their meal.
