It's a wonderful wine bar with a large list of wines, low lighting, and delicious food. Would make the perfect location for a romantic date, or a fun girls night out!
We had a group of 8 - Jim was fantastic!
Food was so good!
We were a group of four seated at a high top that was really only big enough for two people if eating, which we were - I didn’t think that made good sense.
Excellent as usual. My only complaint was that we were charged full price for wine after being told it was still happy hour. Did a great job of getting us through in time for the theatre.
Great food, outstanding wine list and perfect service.
We always head here for the expansive wine selection and appetizers - especially when the patio is open. We rarely think to go for dinner, but I don’t know why not! It has been consistently delicious every time we eat a full meal. The scallops and the lamb were perfectly cooked. The seasoning was well balanced and the sides were great accompaniments. We wrapped up with our go to affogato. Ask to add a shot of Licor 43 to it- you can thank me later! We’ll definitely be adding Tannin in to the regular rotation.
not the best experience sent private note to Tannin will wait for response.
Great little spot for a fun evening! Tasty food and even more tasty wine!
Service was s-l-o-w and the food did not make up for it. Our server showed up quite awhile after we were sat, and after pouring our wine didn’t show up to our table for so long that we had to flag someone down to order food. A different server brought our food (which is fine), but when we immediately realized that our pommes frites were not salted our server never showed up to ask how our food was. Eventually I had to walk up to the bar to ask for a salt shaker. Server essentially showed up at end of meal to collect the check. Food was meh for a $100 bill, and poor service was simply inexcusable.
Made reservation ahead of time because it was my wife's birthday but the couldn't find our reservation which meant there was no sense this was a special occasion. Parking was terrible. Had to park a long way Way even though we dined early, 5:00. Our waiter brought us plates , I think it was for bread but we never got bread. The plates and butter knife just sat there for the whole meal. Our waiter seemed a bit distant from us, like it was a job. The food was good. My steak was supposed to be medium well but was pretty charred on the outside. You do cater to a pretty broad group of people which was good. My experience wasn't the best though.
Apps were good but very expensive for the small size.
Disappointed that salmon had been taken off of menu. Tuna was good and not over cooked. Salad was good. Burger was over cooked.
Service was pleasant/good.
I surprised my husband with a nice dinner before going to the ballet. We had a lovely dinner, the food was amazing, and the service was on point. We would definitely go here again for another splurge-y dinner. It was a little pricier than what we normally do, so perfect for a birthday dinner or special occasion without feeling out of place or under dressed.
They also brought some wine for a toasting for Ben's birthday which was a thoughtful touch.
I was looking forward to a bd night out with friends. We got what must have been a new server. Everything we asked him was 'I dont know'. Shareables were small but tasty, so was my wine flight. Service and price were disappointing this time but I will be back, the cozy booths are great for groups.
Went there before a concert at Sprint center. Great little hang out place. Food and wine were great. Very nice for a date night spot...not noisy. It's a cool renovated building downtown. Will definitely go back.
I highly recommend Tannin. We went to celebrate our anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary glass of champagne to start dinner. We were seated in a private booth, which was another nice surprise. The ambiance was intimate and our server was attentive and personable. He knew the wine menu well. We ordered off the prixe fix menu and everything was wonderful. The crab dip and kale salad were both very good. The KC Strip was tender and cooked perfectly. The peanut butter stuffed cookie was delicious and really completed the meal. Great experience. We are looking forward to a return visit!
Food was awful. Strip was fatty (not rendered), lamb chops butchered, asparagus burnt. Aranchini bland, chocolate tart burnt (seriously, the chocolate of the tart was burnt). Glad it wasn’t a first date, or it would have been the last. Definitely not worth the time spent there.
Good wine though.
My husband and I came here for date night and it was lovely! We heard about it because of our friend, Hubbard Savage (an amazing local KC artist) who has his art featured at the restaurant.
I had their wagyu beef burger with a spinach salad on the side - and it was absolutely delightful. The burger was cooked perfectly to order, and was not your average burger. It was spectacular. The vibe is modern classic, with candles lit on every table, and quiet enough for my husband and I to have great conversation over our meal. They have an EXTENSIVE wine menu - since we don't know anything about wine we asked our server and he was very helpful in offering suggestions that paired with our meals. He even knew the back-story of some of the farms/families the wines came from!
I would recommend Tannin to everyone!
Barry and his staff are both very knowledgeable and friendly.
We have eaten at Tannin's at least 3 or 4 times a year and had good experiences. This visit, the service was slow, the wine pour was very stingy and the front of the restaurant was very cold. They had no space heaters and no other accommodation for the cold weather. When we asked to relocate to a warmer table, we were told none was available, so stayed in our seats in the bar area. Later, when using the facilities, it was noted that numerous tables were available in the rear which were not offered. I spoke to the waiter about this and was advised that the tables were reserved, but not for 30 minutes after our departure. There are too many good choices in KC, to accept this poor of an experience.
Great date night spot! Although I enjoy a good glass of wine, my better half prefers a beer. I thoroughly enjoy the ability to try many options by the glass, to get recommendations and to sample before ordering. What a great experience. All the servers were super friendly, not at all snobbish and very helpful. The food was also fabulous - from happy hour bites to entrees. Sadly we were too full for dessert. Next time!
Love heading here. Great win selection.
Food is very good to excellent, but the wine list is outstanding.
Michael was a fantastic server. Overall, the food was unique and delicious. The pacing was perfect. When we arrived, the restaurant was full so they opened another room to accommodate us.
We went to Tannin for my 40th birthday. They went above and beyond with everything. I highly recommend the cheese flight (we went with domestic cheeses) the tomato jalapeño jelly that comes with the flight is so delicious. I wish I could buy it in bulk. The entrees were also amazing. We will definitely go again.
Took advantage of the half off wine bottle
First time to Tannin and I must say I was quite surprised how good the food was. Great wine selection and the burger was out of this world! Don't miss out on trying the peanut butter fudge cookie. Amazing.
Nice place. Food had good flavor but wasn’t hot temperature wise. Asparagus was a little soggy as well. Service was great but wine is a little pricy to have more than a glass or two. Light pours.
It was my first dining experience here and I was blown away by the food and wine, will definitely be back.
KC Strip steak was amazing, cooked perfectly, and flavorful! Second to none service!
It’s farm to table with a nice setting. The food was great but it took 40 minutes to get our food and we arrived early, only the 2nd table to order.
Always a fun place. Quaint and good wine selection. Fabulous food. One of my favorite downtown KC restaurants and meet ups.
Tannin is one of those places I tend to forget about but every time I've been, it's always been an enjoyable experience. They have great food, their service is consistently good. They have an extensive wine list and their servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this place. It's tucked away just off the noisy downtown area and has limited outdoor seating which is great for people watching.
Had a great birthday dinner this weekend. Shared several small plates and enjoyed a great after dinner Sherry recommended by out fabulous server. Will definitely be back!
Nice little gem in KC. Wine pairings were well thought out, fun and interesting. An enormous wine list. Small bites were fab! Our server was attentive. Atmosphere was intimate yet casual. The only “beef” was that our main course (steak) left much to be desired.
The wine list is definitely a draw. My husband and I were put at a table in a dark section of the restaurant near the kitchen and it was rather dreary.
Perfect for comfortable atmosphere to catch up with friend. Excellent service
Tannin is always a favorite
Service was amazing everyone was beyond friendly. Will be coming here for years to come.
