This was our first time dining in Tandem and we were looking forward to the experience after hearing so much about this restaurant. We had out of town friends visiting over the weekend and we wanted to impress them with a great dinner. Unfortunately it did not turn out that way. The service was surprisingly slow and poor in spite of the fact that only a fraction of the tables were occupied, we had to remind them repeatedly about our drinks, and they messed up our food order- forgetting to bring one of the appetizers, for which they did not even apologize. The food was mediocre, perhaps our expectations were set too high based on what we had heard.
Overall, it was quite an expensive dinner for a disappointing experience. We won’t be returning.
All good delectable and unusual.
And better than what I’ve been making at home for the past 18 months. And I’ve become a good COVID cook!
Nice, quiet outdoor seating and superb staff.
Totally delightful birthday dinner. Highly recommend.
Food was all extremely good, salmon and cauliflower were excellent.
The staff accommodated my errant request that I be treated like a longstanding patron to impress a first Date. They were great especially... SAM aka Samantha.
Best decision I'v made the year. as for the 1st date...jury is still out. However, that is on me. Tandem did more than than part.
Food and service were very good. Was glad to see the wait staff was following Covid protocol by wearing masks.
My husband’s birthday was the occasion with another couple. Everyone got a different dish. Everything was delicious. Nice to be able to sit outside.
The food was distinctive and well prepared. I enjoyed the refreshing use of baked grapes in the chicken dish. It gave the plate an exciting taste. The blueberry panna cotta was the perfect finale to the dining experience.
The overall service was very prompt, and the server was interactive and alert.
Simply fantastic! To have dinner here is a real treat, savor it.
All who waited on us were extremely professional. It was the Best burger and Cobb salad around. My avocado toast was a large portion and the tomato jam was nit the best combination for me. Salad was delightful.
Outstanding meal. Great service and ambiance. Will definitely return.
Tandem is consistently one of the best restaurants in the Triangle. Great service and a menu full of interesting flavors. Highly recommended!
Portions were decent, but everything was a little bland and due to the steaming/tangine, way too much watery sauce instead of good stock/broth. That was the case with the mussels app and the lamb shoulder entree
Great food.. service and atmosphere
Each of the four adults at our table ordered a different entrée and then shared a bite from our own plates with each other. Everything was very tasty! The two kids at our table LOVED the deviled eggs! They devoured their fries and ate some of the salmon, and then were eager to get up from their seats and explore. It would have been nice to be seated outside for that reason, but there are not many tables in the outside area that can seat more than 4 patrons, and not all of the tables were in the shade, so we were seated indoors. Before we left however, the 6 yr old at our table made it clear that he wanted to come back to THIS restaurant, and not any other. Now that is a great review!
Came here for my birthday dinner and didn’t fully love the experience. It was noisy due to an event they had and the tandem burgers were quite unappetizing. Not sure if I would give it another chance!
Met a friend and ate outside in the patio. Great curry chicken salad!
One of our favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill. The flavor palette is always unique and delicious, and they change the menu up enough that each time we dine there, there are new things to try. Staff is really attentive and pleasant despite the rigors of the pandemic dining experience.
Expecting the standard modern American fare, but we were vry pleasantly surprised by the creativity and some of the unusual flavors the chef incorporated in the dishes.
We have a selection of starters come on baby really unusual, excellently prepared and especially the risotto was spectacular.
Definitely worth while visit, when you are in Carrboro
The place is large and nicely decorated. They followed good safety protocols. The food was delicious. The menu is creative. We loved the root salad, the chicken and the lamb shoulder with vegetables. We also got 50% off on the wine bottle because it eas Tuesday. The service was excellent! Attentive snd professional.
My husband said the mussels were the best he ever had anywhere. My salmon was perfect and the sauce incredibly tasty. Caesar salad comes with whole leaves of Romaine so you have to chop it up yourself -dressing was great. Lamb shoulder came w/o bone much to husband!’s surprise but it was good. Kirsten our waitress was outstanding- very attentive, didn’t forget a thing, offered bread to sop up mussel juice and perfect timing for the order of our meal. We will definitely return!
This was our first time dining here and I was throughly impressed! I have a couple of allergies which they easily accommodated for! Brad was our waiter and was very personable and kind! His recommendations made our dining experience easy and enjoyable!
We absolutely loved this restaurant. The taste, the atmosphere, the service and the dessert was unbelievable. I can’t wait to try again.
Always good there. We go frequently on Sunday, for brunch.
Great food and service. Could tell they were short staffed but teamwork was excellent!
Nice dinner. Gazpacho a little like baby food but the salmon was excellent. Nice service. Better selection of specialty cocktails would be nice.
Once again Brad was an exceptional server! Food was exceptional too: we enjoyed the chicken, scallop (special),, peach gazpacho, mussels, and the wonderful oysters on the half shell.
Ambience great, service was great. Food was pretty but flavors not as developed. Overall solid experience. 2nd time there, thought we should give it another try.
We have dine here several times Everyone who works there is knowledgeable and well trained in service. The food is original and beautifully presented. This is our go to restaurant in Chapel Hill /Carrboro area. We have had several exceptional meals at Tandem
i would add a few plants flowers etc to make patio more inviting
inside is great
my server is always excellent
Great atmosphere and a creative, well executed menu. The food was excellent
Vibe was fine. Food was greasy and not very flavorful (nor filling).
A wedding reception was going on in the front part of the restaurant and we ended up in a less attraction active part of the restaurant. Nevertheless, Brad took excellent care of us and the food was as good as usual.
My friend and I met at Tandem to eat out on the patio and we enjoyed everything about the place. Thanks.
I have been to Tandem three times -- this time was the best -- food was really superb, and service was lovely.
Service was fantastic. Love this restaurant. A real gem that I can count on for all sorts of occasions.
Visiting from out of town, we were luckily to stumble upon this first rate establishment. Housed in a historic textile mill, the food was creative, high quality and delicious. Service in this artsy town was equivalent to what you would expect in a high-end city restaurant. A+
Just our 2nd visit, and hoping to enjoy the morning brunch. The food was good, but the service was not great. It was a quiet Sunday morning, and not busy at all. Not sure if our server was bored or just didn't care. Hostess seems stressed. Not that enjoyable. Wish it had been better.
Tandem is a great place for nicely prepared and presentation of an interesting menu. Lunch, dinner and brunch are good value and delicious.
We ate on the delightful patio so there was some street noise, but service was attentive, perhaps too much, but we had a good time.
When reserving for Tandem indicate if you want the patio or the equally inviting indoor setting.
Our first trip to Tandem and it will not be our last- what a great place with some innovative foods that will be delightful to taste. Thank you to all for doing more than the standards and pairing wonderful flavors together. Service was excellent… we will be back
