Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond.


TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

The restaurant grows its own produce a mile up the road for dishes like an heirloom tomato salad with chile paste and fried shallots or a killer fried chicken sandwich with papaya salad, served in a colorful, glowing dining room and outdoor patio.

    Six course rotating menu featuring exclusive fan favorite dishes as well as the option to bolt on signature à la carte items. Standard tasting menu includes both meat and seafood items.     I really enjoyed my experience! I enjoyed the tasting menu and drink pairing. As a solo diner, it was a lot of food so come hungry. Also, many of the dishes were spicy so if you are spice averse, I would go with another menu option.

    We ordered the chef’s tasting menu. It was phenomenal. The flavor combinations were just outstanding. The portions were generous and the price was reasonable. Thanks for an amazing experience.

    We've loved Takoi for years, but last night's meal was especially spectacular! We have a few staples we always get (ribs, som tum thai, coconut ice cream), but we also tried a couple curries this time, and they were amazing. Takoi remains one of our favorite restaurants ever!

    Food was very good and weight. Staff was great. Service was quick. A little disappointed that we wanted to try some of the tasting menu, but that everyone at the table had to be involved. My son and husband wanted to do the basic one, however, I am a vegetarian and couldn’t so we were not able to do the tasting menu.

    Takoi is my favorite restaurant in Detroit by a mile. The food.....it's incredible. The flavor and complexity is like nothing I have ever had before. The most recent time I visited the service was top notch from walking in the door to walking out. It's perfect.

    The service was exceptional and the atmosphere great. It was a fun new experience. We ordered the chef’s special and that was more than enough food for two people. We did not make it through the last course. Connor was our waiter and did great.

    Great meal! Portions were larger than expected. Just as good if not better than when it first opened as "Katoi". Love the interior.

    Really loved so much about this place. There could be some tweaks, especially in the drink/cocktail area. Cool thoughts but drinks a little too sweet, unbalanced, etc. Great thoughts though. Try them. Ribs a little too crispy without tender meat inside. Otherwise food really impressed.
