Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond.

TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

Six course rotating menu featuring exclusive fan favorite dishes as well as the option to bolt on signature à la carte items. Standard tasting menu includes both meat and seafood items. Full table participation of the same tasting menu required. No substitutions or modifications. $75 per person. Extra charge applies for solo diners. Optional beverage pairing offered in-house as well as caviar service to accompany your meal!

We didn’t get our order taken until 30 minutes into our reservation, and then when we ordered the chef’s tasting menu, we were told we only had one full hour to finish everything and leave so the next reservation could get in. Really disappointing since it was not our fault that it took 30 minutes to even get our order placed. Then when we asked for sparkling water, it took another full 20 minutes to get it. We had to ask twice, and not to mention, the server took all of our water away so we had no hydration at the table at all while we waited. A salad we ordered was also completely forgotten. It was so stressful trying to order and even get utensils like chopsticks since there were two of us sharing a bunch of dishes. We ended up just leaving because it wasn’t worth the trouble. This is the first experience I’ve had at Takoi with terrible customer service. I hope this improves, it was very disappointing, I’m sad to say.

Takoi is a true culinary gem. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional—from the vibrant atmosphere to the top-notch service. Each dish on the menu felt like a standout, making it nearly impossible to choose. Every bite exceeded expectations, combining bold, inventive flavors with flawless execution. It's rare to find a place where both the food and service leave such a lasting impression. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Opted to do the tasting menu and it was fantastic! Spicy, flavorful, and overall just a wonderful meal. Fun to do with friends to get to try stuff and not have to pick!

I really enjoyed my experience! I enjoyed the tasting menu and drink pairing. As a solo diner, it was a lot of food so come hungry. Also, many of the dishes were spicy so if you are spice averse, I would go with another menu option.

We ordered the chef’s tasting menu. It was phenomenal. The flavor combinations were just outstanding. The portions were generous and the price was reasonable. Thanks for an amazing experience.

We've loved Takoi for years, but last night's meal was especially spectacular! We have a few staples we always get (ribs, som tum thai, coconut ice cream), but we also tried a couple curries this time, and they were amazing. Takoi remains one of our favorite restaurants ever!

Food was very good and weight. Staff was great. Service was quick. A little disappointed that we wanted to try some of the tasting menu, but that everyone at the table had to be involved. My son and husband wanted to do the basic one, however, I am a vegetarian and couldn’t so we were not able to do the tasting menu.

Takoi is my favorite restaurant in Detroit by a mile. The food.....it's incredible. The flavor and complexity is like nothing I have ever had before. The most recent time I visited the service was top notch from walking in the door to walking out. It's perfect.

The service was exceptional and the atmosphere great. It was a fun new experience. We ordered the chef’s special and that was more than enough food for two people. We did not make it through the last course. Connor was our waiter and did great.
