   Our server was really lovely but our food was a total miss on this first and probably only visit. The yellowtail in the hamachi roll was literally puréed. I eat a lot of sushi and have even forced down some not great sushi at social events and literally could not eat it. A pregnant woman in our group ordered the steak cooked medium and at first it came out almost charred it was so overcooked, and then when she sent it back the next one came rare, so much so that she felt uncomfortable eating it. The pieces of our maki rolls were rolled so loosely they were falling apart when we tried to pick them up. On the up side their sake selection was good and the sake I ordered on recommendation from our server was excellent. Still there are much better sushi options and I probably would not go back.

   Very good food and service. We went there on a Monday night and it was packed! Very loud and difficult to hold a conversation. Also, the uni was $18 for two pieces, which struck me as high given it was CA uni. Anyway, other than that we had a great time and the sushi and service were impeccable.

   The actual sushi was excellent, the apps were pretty meh. Stick to sushi and sashimi.

   Taka was an awesome experience for Sushi in Gaslamp. I would highly recommend for anyone. The key to good sushi is fresh fish. Done. Also, their Saki selection was ample and we really enjoyed the one we chose (can’t recall the name. Service was also fantastic. -Andy
