Food was very good - grilled sardines, tomato salad and chicken. Casual, great service and ambiance.
Délicieux, endroit charmand mais bruyant. Service A++.
Great Portuguese style chicken in old Montreal. The chicken is well seasoned + fries are really good too. Quick + friendly service. Very reasonable prices, especially considering their location.
We shared a soup course and the salad (which was delicious). We then shared the special salmon entree. Very tasty, well prepared, and a good value for the amount of food we had.
We discovered Taberna on a visit to Montreal earlier in the summer and loved the place and the food so much that on a return visit to Montreal in September we introduced it to our son who just moved from Toronto to Montreal for graduate studies. It's now been added to his favourites list as well. Excellent value, very welcoming staff, relaxed atmosphere and DELICIOUS chicken! I would highly recommend Taberna!
Unbelievably slow service. Mediocre food. The floors were incredibly slippery, felt like the entire restaurant had been coated in a thin layer of grease. Was recommended the chorizo sandwich, which was bland-ish chorizo on stale bread. Friend had Piri-Piri chicken sandwich and said it was OK, but her bread was very stale as well. Tomato Salad was pretty good, so not entirely negative.
After spending $25.00 on a taxi to arrive on time.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that they were closed because they ran out of chicken.
Dear Open Table,
I will no longer use your services until you can assure me that this will not occur again.
As usual delicious, great service. Love this place, any occasion is good to show up!
A Portuguese restaurant with not much Portuguese inside.
Food doesn't taste like Portuguese food.
Chicken was average and fish tasted "old freezer".
None of the personnel was Portuguese, not even the cook!
The servers, the 2 girls and the bearded guy, were all very kind.
Restricted red wine choice and expensive.
Not even Portuguese music.
Amazing food, but the experience was spoiled by the waitress at the end of our meal. Our tab was $25+ tax. We left cash $5 tip and she informed us that it was a poor tip and that we needed to leave more. She was very aggressive and rude. By all calculations that is a 20% tip for mediocre service in a city where 15% is the norm. It was very alarming, and we will choose other places for lunch in Old Montreal in the future!
All was great! The server was amazing- friendly and very efficient. The issue was the heat that was unbearable - no AC
The restaurant was not busy but the service was super slow. Half the menu was not available and the kitchen closed few minutes after we sat down even though they didn’t close for another 2 hours. The food was limited but decent. Restaurant is pretty but the service and food are mediocre at best.
Great experience, the food was amazing and our very kind waiter made the evening perfect.
The staff was very accommodating as the entrance to the restaurant was not wheelchair accessible, but the staff gave us a lift to get our friend into the restaurant. That in itself says a lot. The manager said that they would look into getting a ramp. The food was really tasty, well-prepared and the sangria is just to die for!!!!! Just be careful when walking as the floor is a tad slippery !!!
Really great find in old montreal , tasty food, nice ambience
We were a group of 5 out to celebrate a birthday and was great because the restaurant was cozy and quiet so we could converse without shouting. Also the food was very good and the service friendly and professional.
Great food and great ambiance for a reasonable price :-) Isabelle provide us with excellent service! Will return that’s for sure!
Excellent spot tucked away on a very charming narrow Old Montreal street. Super moist chicken done Portuguese style, a great value including olives/chick peas to start and a very nice side salad and/or fries combo. Extra piri-piri sauce on the side adds an extra zing, though it's not at all burning hot (there is plenty of Tabasco on the table for that!). Decent and reasonable wine list, and one Portuguese beer in a bottle. Deserts are tremendous, especially the home-made doughnuts with caramel sauce; also available, a creamy chocolate mousse and a Portuguese cream tart. Overall, an excellent dining experience, reasonably priced, and in a charming old building with exposed stone walls.
Juicy, fantastic chicken. We were very happy to dine here and will return!
Great piri piri chicken salad and fries
Service was a bit slow at first
Menu was missing a lot of items
Waiters ended up being very fun towards the end of the meal when restaurant got a lil more empty
As usual, the service was great and the food awesome! The poutine is absolutely crazy good!
Great food and service, as usual! Love it, will come back anytime
Was very noisy, food is good
First time here. New Years Eve Dinner with family. At first was disappointed it wasn’t the regular menu but a special menu. Did not disappoint. One of our best meals ever anywhere!!!Creative and delicious! Suckling pig👍Unique atmosphere too with comfortable tables for groups.
Great service and outstanding food
Consistently Delicious Portuguese chicken with fries & salad. We have been there several times and never disappoints. Good value on their Portuguese wine selection. And natas for dessert
This is a great place to relax in good company. Great, simple honest food. It was recommended to me and I already recommended it to friends.
My best in Old Montreal. Food and service are awesome. The place is ideally located and beautiful.
Will not be returning. Service was lacking, we asked for drinks twice which never came and then were charged for them! They also forgot to bring us two appetizers we ordered. My main course, the chicken salad had a strong fish taste (sardines).
Excellent cuisine, large selection, reasonable prices, exceptional service. Ambiance is warm and comfortable. Restaurant fills up quickly and everyone including us were having a great time. Great decor and layout. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Offered amazing choices. A couple in the party were vegan and had nothing but great things to say about the dishes that were crafted for them. Great find!
We had an enjoyable meal in a large group (7 people) with excellent and attentive service. We especially enjoyed the piri-piri chicken and the grilled octopus appetizer. The dining room was cozy and comfortable with good acoustics.
Only 2 negatives: The Air Conditioning was not able to handle the job, it was therefore extremely hot in the restaurant (in a suit we would have left), then the waiter was a bit too energetic taking our plates away (no we are not finished!). That aside, this place is awesome, outstanding simple comfort food. Our second visit, and not the last for sure.
We paid a lot for the food/experience we got. The main dishes were good and well priced, but the appetizers were small portions and overpriced. The charcuterie plate was overpriced at $20. The grilled octopus was a very small portion uninspired and overpriced at $13.00. It was hard to find the cod or shrimp in the Croquettes. The tomato salad was extremely disappointing and expensive at $11.00 for a serving of a few slices of unripe tomatoes. (It is a shame to serve unripe tomates when, at this time of year, the markets are full of plump red juicy tomates) Overall an OK restaurant, but would not recommend the appetizers. On the good side the service was great and the wine recommendation was great.
we had a simple birthday lunch here and it was perfect. kid friendly, inexpensive, yummy!
