Tabard’s Ale House
We had the Hawaiian steak and it was amazing. Mine rare and the wife's med rare and both were cooked perfectly. All 4 dinners were great and we will be back.
Crab appetizer was great. Blackened fettuccini with shrimp was not blackened at all. Cajun fries had no seasonings at all. Just regular fries. The Dijon glazed pork chops had no Dijon glaze. It’s like everything was only half prepared. Very disappointed in everything but the appetizer
Really enjoyed the variety of food choices. Pricing was very affordable, and food was very good. Avocado sticks were very tasty. Good atmosphere.
We were quite pleased with the menu variety. We were there in time to get in on a happy hour deal - a flatbread pizza and two glasses of house wine for $15! The dinner portions were enormous. Both the pot roast and the chicken marsala were delicious. The owner stopped by to check in and hear our feedback. We are hoping to come back on a Tuesday for the steak night! Our server could have been a wee bit more attentive - water glasses sat empty for far too long.
The food was excellent. The ambience was great and very spacious. There is a fantastic selection of beer and wine, too.
We will definitely eat there again!!
My wife and I ordered the flatbreads and the crust was tough and chewy and did not seem fresh. Disappointed in the crust but the toppings were very good.
Excellent food and service. Noise level was a bit too high for us.
The waiter was very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. He was paid special attention to our 5 year old grandson, acknowledging him and made a big deal about him being good and getting to pick a toy out of the treasure chest.
The food was brought out hot and we were brought out small plates for sharing without having to ask. Everyone enjoyed the evening.
We had brunch here, they had a great Bloody Mary! Staff was nice.
Food tasted great! Nice variety of food at good prices!
Tabards Ale House was a great little place to eat for a low key Christmas eve dinner. We were looking for somewhere to eat without all the hoopla of the holiday interfering. We were dressed casual and felt it was appropriate for this environment. Food was great, my son enjoyed the bacon flight, how fun! They have a fantastic gluten free menu which is a must for the Celiac in our group, me. Loved the decor, felt like an old timey tavern, my kind of place. Plenty to choose from on the menu and all the food was good. We had a wonderful time. Staff including the owner were very gracious and interacting.
I had the Dijon pork chop, which was wonderful. Unfortunately, the asparagus side dish was not properly prepared. The asparagus was not trimmed properly. It was also markedly overcooked, tough and soggy. Asparagus needs just to be blanched for 3-4 minutes. I am surprised that the chef does not know how to prepare a relatively simple side dish.
Our first time here. We enjoyed it quite a lot. Our server was great and the food was good. My Greek salad was delicious and my husband loved his pork kabobs. However, I wish there were more healthy options on the menu.
Great food as always. It was half price burger night which is a value that is hard to beat. We enjoyed the burgers and had a relaxing dinner.
The service was great, the food was awesome, and the beer was cold! The owner engaged with us and was very attentive to customers. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!
Food and Service was great. Food was as described with great plate presentation. The owner was highly visible and visited each table.
acoustics are way too loud. hamburger was too well done-ordered it medium
Menu was a little better than your average bar and grill but atmosphere was very casual and fairly plain. Maybe that's just not what we were in the mood for - wanted something a little nicer. Vegetarian options limited - 1 veggie burger. Husband wanted pasta in a non-cream sauce but not an option. I got herbed shrimp with rice and grilled veggies. Shrimp was in a liquid sauce which was good. Had bread to dip in the sauce - toast would have been a little better. Rice was a bit bland but grilled veggies were super. Drinks were all good.
This was our first visit to Tabard’s, made for early Saturday evening on a football weekend. Fortunately we had made reservations in advance, since the place was jammed with a large, noisy crowd. However we were immediately shown to a booth, and our very attentive waiter appeared as soon as we were settled in to take our drink orders. We were impressed by the mammoth selection of beers from all over the world, and easily settled on two of our favorites while perusing the menu for dinner. We began dinner by choosing an order of Tabard’s pretzel sticks, which came four to a plate, hot from cooking, and with both a mustard and a cream sauce. Very good, but almost too much before dinner so we decided to take several home with us for later enjoyment!
The entree selections were numerous, and the prices appeared quite reasonable by Kansas City standards. We both decided to try the fish and chip platter, and wondered why our waiter asked if we waned one order or two - We learned the answer when our plates appeared, both loaded with three nicely sized pieces of white fish (cod? halibut?) coated with a light batter and perfectly fried. In addition our plates were loaded with huge portions of Tabard’s Cajun fries, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal for us! The fries, simply put, were the best I’d eaten anywhere in the world, and by themselves would have justified return visits for more of the same - perfectly cooked on the outside with some sort of coating, creamy on the inside, and not the least bit soggy. The only problem was the quantity, which could easily have fed both my wife and I from a single plate!
We had no room to try desserts, and departed with a box containing several pretzels and several pieces of fish, but we will certainly be back to try some of their other offerings in the near future. The only drawback to the evening was the high noise level, but the excellent food and service more than made up for that.
Great new place! Delicious food and fantastic service. We will be back for sure.
Fabulous sliders on happy hour menu. Yum! What a bargain!
Birthday dinner with friends. The food was very good and the service was outstanding.
Great spot with great food & drink
First time there. All four os us opted for the fish and chips. It was excellent. Definitely going back to try more things.
Dinner came out with appetizers and there was paper in our desert. 🤷🏼♂️
Volume for the chiefs Game was not turned on my friends avocado toast came out and looked horrendous hardly any avocado! The bloody Mary bar was OK but you had to make your own so if you’re not a connoisseur but like them you don’t really know how to make them taste good! The flat bread was not cooked all that well the only thing that was really good was the bananas French toast and the hummus dip!!
Great find! Good food at a good price with attentive service! We will back soon!
Poor service. Just a generic restaurant in a strip mall. The food was less then average.
Food is very good, nice happy hour, but was very loud when we were there for a more peaceful dinner.
Server lacked an innate rhythm/ability to read people.
Food was ok. Skirt steak was overly chewy, not fresh, either nuked or not tenderized.
Unwilling to order/time delivery of food to table as requested.
Neutral observation only: sorta loud for a Thursday night.
First time here. Had read great things about it on a Facebook group I belong to that recommends great places to eat. Was not disappointed! We were a party of 8, and everyone immensely enjoyed their food and service!
My girlfriend and I met another couple for drinks, stayed for dinner, which let to more drinks. It surprisingly wasn't that busy and had lots of open tables. It's always better to have a reservation vice showing up to stand by the bar for a long time. I've already told my friends about the great time. They had a list of beers I haven't had. I sampled the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel, then drank 5 more glasses of it. Amazing. I'm taking my buddies next month when they fly in. The coffee burger was delicious. I usually stick to ordering and eating the same damn thing everywhere we normally go. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and was pleased with my decision. I'll order it again.
Eclectic menu, excellent food and service. I recommend the Bourbon Barrel Steak Sandwich and the BBQ Chicken Pizza.
Great food! Our waiter was great. Happy Hour prices were good as well!
Food and service was excellent. However, the noise level was so high, you couldn't hold a conversation with the person sitting right next to you.
While getting lots of positive press right now - Tabard's Ale House is a solid new addition to the Overland Park pub scene. The afternoon we were there (Saturday) - it was packed and lots of folks makes for lots of noise. Be prepared to have "loud conversations" as it is a rambunctious crowd! The food was good and parts of it were great. We started with the pretzels and they were hot and delicious. The French Dip sandwich was excellent and while they call one of their sides "cajun fries" - that does not mean they are spicy. Instead it means they are double fried with a batter layer. Hot and tasty but don't be scared off by the word "cajun". The jerk pork skewers were overcooked and tough so would not recommend those and their burgers may be magnificent unless you want just a plain cheeseburger. When you remove all the custom fixin's - the burgers are better almost anywhere else. Also had the wedge salad as an entree. For the price - I expected a large wedge but instead it was small - only 1/8th of the iceberg lettuce head. I expected a 1/4 size. It was delicious however so I do recommend it.
What would make a server in a restaurant think it is acceptable to call me "sweetie"? I find this highly offensive and it soured the entire experience at Tabard's for me. The food was good, however, the room was loud, the table cards were unclear about when Happy Hour was and wasn't, and the staff, as noted, was obnoxious.
We really wanted to like this place.
We have been to Tabard's Ale House 3 times in the past two weeks. First for a debate watch party in their wonderful large room with many screens to watch; next for a delightful happy hour to watch the women't soccer semi final game and lastly, for Brunch and to watch the women's Soccer final game. All had very tasty food; wonderful service and a great place to watch. We are thrilled to find a local place so close to home with great food and many screens to watch things we cannot see at home.
Great food; great service; space for small or large groups; variety of local beers that change from time to time.
Their Happy Hour is awesome, great specials and food! Will definitely return - thanks!
