New Orleans in 1796 just blocks away from our address, Sylvain occupies a truly unique space at 625 Chartres Street adjacent to Jackson Square. This majestic building and location presents a feeling of history and palpable excitement to the city’s nightlife scene while celebrating that for which New Orleans has always been revered.
Our menu is purposefully designed to offer a mix of bistro classics elevated to the style of refined cuisine. From hand-rolled pastas to slow-braised, pork and game, to burgers ground daily by hand with the choicest cuts of meat, Sylvain’s menu, like the decor, feels at once familiar and brand new. Most importantly to us, though, is that guests will experience many of our Chef’s and Sous Chef’s fondest life experiences with food in the menu items and the daily features created for the guests’ enjoyment.

Food exceeded expectations. Great ambiance but a bit noisy on the music side probably because we went on Mardi Gras day.
We went there based on the great reviews. Our experience was different. Cold cornbread, room temperature burger and surly waiter. But, the courtyard is lovely.
Excellent atmosphere and service, great place to catch up with friends in a relaxed setting. Food from apps to main course were excellent
We've been at Sylvain multiple times. The food, the drinks, the ambiance (inside) are always great. However if you are seated outside the experience may be completely different. Tonight we were seated outside next to a giant AC condenser that was making a lot of noise, turning our out-of-town guest's experience and ours way less pleasant and enjoyable than what we had described to him/anticipated.
Absolutely delicious food, amazing cocktails, gorgeous back patio garden setting, cozy and dark bar. A must stop.
Best French fries ever!
Love this classically hip spot in Nola. Highly recommend!
What an amazing find. BOHEMIAN at its best. 5 star food. Go!
Quality, delicious food in the French Quarter. Highly recommend! Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and very helpful.
One of the best meals I’ve had in ages. I was in love with everything about my experience at Sylvain! From the second we walked in the door the service was impeccable. Everyone was so friendly, but the two people that stood out most were Alex, our primary server, and Victoria, the manager. Victoria went out of her way to make our Valentine’s Day dinner extra special and memorable. The atmosphere was elevated casual. It felt elegant while also being very comfortable and approachable (several times my husband and I danced in our seats and sung aloud with the music). The food, as mentioned, was absolutely top notch. The portions were just right. The flavors combined exquisitely. The cocktails were unique and diverse. There wasn’t a single thing I would rate as mediocre. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this spot more.
One of my favorite places in Nola.
The menu was very limited. Although they were special she couldn’t alter the prefix prefix. My entrée arrive cold. They offered to give me another entrée remake it. Which they didn’t they just heated it up. And by that time my Dina compare you had already finished their food. They did give us a dessert and some champagne as a compensation but I would’ve preferred having my entrée cooked correctly at the initial presentation.
Jacob was such a nice waiter. He kept us informed about the progress of our food, kept our drinks full, and was very helpful when we had questions. We enjoyed the music and overall ambiance. But most of all, the food selection was surprising, different, and very good. And then Jacob chased us halfway down the street because my husband left his credit card. Kudos all around.
Menu is relatively small but everything we ate was delicious. The shredded Brussels sprout salad was excellent. The fish special was scallops and they were fresh and well-prepared. The carrot risotto used baby carrots and the flavor was great. Nice place. We sat in the bar. It is casual and noisy but not too bad.
Great atmosphere, food and the service was incredible. Extremely accommodating for food allergies.
We had brunch at Sylvain and it was great. Small but excellent selection of drinks and enters. Not cheap, but definitely worth the quality of food and experience.
Always a wonderful place. The atmosphere is unbeatable. A truly New Orleans restaurant.
The service was great, but the noise level was a bit high so hard to hear each other across the table. Oyster starter and scallop special was my choice , and a good one too, flavors were perfect. Cost for seven of us starters, entree, cocktails , wine with dinner was $450 including tip - a very reasonable amount.
Had a great table out side in the back. Food was great!
Good food but sit on the patio if you want to have a conversation
This was our 3rd visit to Sylvain and it did not disappoint. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The drink list is top notch the food is fantastic.
This is the one restaurant we visit every trip to New Orleans, usually for brunch. I absolutely love the shaved Brussels sprout salad, it’s a good size to share as a starter. This time I had the Duck Confit Hash and it did not disappoint. Also had a Bloody Mary, made with in-house created mix and dressed with in house made pickles.
The sodas are also made with in house created syrup. Don’t miss this place.
Really cool place. Food was awesome. Ambience even better ... awesome cocktails- very interesting.
We had been here before (5+ years ago) and remembered liking it, so we came back while visiting relatives again. I’m not sure if we changed or the place changed, but I wasn’t impressed this time around. To start, they were playing heavy metal music so loudly that my husband and I couldn’t hold a conversation without yelling across the table. It is definitely not dinner music and I left with a headache (note, I’m only 40, so not averse to this type of music in general, just not when trying to eat dinner and talk). In nice weather I think we could have retreated to the patio for some quieter dining, but it was cold and the patio was not open. I ordered a glass of champagne and my husband had the bartender make a fresh margarita with a nice reposado which he really liked. We shared the fries and the brussel sprouts to start (you can do just a glass of champagne and side of fries, you don’t have to order an entire like it lists on the menu) and both were nice, but I like my fries on the softer side, not extra crispy. My husband had the grilled shrimp for his entree and I had the beef cheeks, which I remembered enjoying last time. He liked his shrimp, but my beef cheeks were just way too fatty for me and I couldn’t finish them. The mashed potatoes and spinach that accompanied them were very tasty though. In sum, the food is generally good, but nothing was so amazing that we would love to order it again and the noise level is so loud that unfortunately that’s what I’ll remember most from our experience.
Excellent food, good cocktails, great space! We got the champagne and fries which was fun, and the gulf shrimp were delicious.
Great location and very atmospheric. Noisy but fun and very cozy. Limited menu though and food was ok but not exceptional. Ambience made up for basic food.
Excellent from start to finish, outdoor dinning wonderful!
This restaurant is wonderful! The food was absolutely delicious. We had the fried halloumi, corn bread, shaved Brussel sprouts, fried chicken sandwich, and the steak. We loved and ate everything. Also our server Alex was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. We will be back again!
It was perfect. The server was very helpful and everything was delicious.
Really nice place. I chose the duck which turned out to be a mistake. Was very rare and a portion was just fat. Everything else was very good.
We appreciate Sylvain for being open late. We had a 10:30 pm reservation following a play at Le Petite Theatre a few steps away. Food, service and ambience all great. And a decent wine list!
An intimate neighborhood restaurant next to Jackson square in the French quarter. Our server was Jacob who was excellent. I had the fried oyster appetizer and the pork shoulder entree. Both excellent. My dear wife had the shrimp appetizer and the fish du jour which was Mahi. Both excellent. We shared the chocolate desert which was rich and delicious. Drinks were decent but for the usual price these days of $10/plus each they could have been a little more generous. Also, I asked for my Martini on the rocks without vermouth but guess what? At any rate, a great French quarter choice where the food is good and you won’t feel like a tourist.
One of my favorite places in New Orleans
Such a lovely atmosphere with wonderful cocktail options and a talented bartender. I've sat in their courtyard, at the bar, and at a table, and have had wonderful experiences each time.
Awesome service, outstanding food, and beautiful design.
This restaurant has a charming atmosphere and a lot of character.
Service was seriously lacking. Food was very mediocre. The manger was great about this, the waiter was downright hostile.
