This was the second time here. We’ve made reservation and the place fills up fast as soon as the door opens at 5:30 pm. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was fast and pleasant. The only negative thing that I would say is that it could use a little more lighting inside, especially since it doesn’t have an ocean view. I would recommend it for new visitors to the island, looking for a great place to eat. We have tried just about every place on the main block and so far, this is our favorite(even without the view). Come hungry and you find it worth your time. 😊
Really great sushi spot, excellent service our favorites from our meal were the tiger roll and uni nigiri.
They have professional service and quality foods.
Located in the heart of Kona, this restaurant delivers a high quality sushi experience. We showed up early hoping to be seated before our 8 pm reservation. They were able to accommodate us at the Sushi Bar. We ordered the Shiono Royal Boat for 2 and it did not disappoint. The sushi and sashimi on the boat were fresh and delicious. The tempura soft shell crab was probably the best we’ve ever eaten. Tempura lobster kind of swallowed the lobster whole; the sweetness of the lobster was lost. The chicken and beef teriyaki were also superb. Prices are more reasonable than we have seen elsewhere in Hawaii too.
Very good sushi and very nice ambiance
The food was fantastic. The cut of the sashimi was perfect for flavor and texture. The pork tonkatsu was the best he’s ever had. The rice was softer than I’ve had anywhere else. It was a wonderful balance with the pickled radish.
The staff was helpful and covid guidelines were being respected. Highly recommend coming here!
Fresh, delicious and great value
This sushi is top quality. It’s so perfect! Great for a nice dinner date
What a great find and went there based on Open Table reviews. Service was great and we did the deluxe boat for 2 and it was phenomenal. The volcano roll and assorted sashimi was amazing and was completely caught off guard at how good the prime ribeye was that came with it. My wife and I were very happy to start our trip with a meal like this
Amazingly fresh seafood. Best sushi on the island. Friendly, prompt, and attentive staff. Large food and beverage menu to choose from. A must visit when in Kona!
This is a great place to have sushi in Kona! We really enjoyed it!
Was just ok. Entree prices (seafood tempura)were a bit high for what we got and slices of the fish on the nigiri were on the small side.
We started coming here earlier this year when my husband would get off early enough to catch the first dinner seating at 530pm, even with a reservation. Came to ight die my birthday...and Naomi (our server), sushi chef's, staff did not disappoint!
Ordered the miso butterfish dinner plate, the Sushi Shiono deluxe boat, and agedashi tofu appetizer. I love miso butterfish...big, juicy, and just right marinade! First time we got the boat and it was worth it...chicken and beef were tender, the shrimp tempura was crispy, the 9 slices of sashimi (ahi, hamachi, salmon) we're fresh and buttery, the soft shelled crab was scrumptious, the volcano roll was good (didn't care for the mac nut topping). Would order again. Definitely feeds a 2 adults plus a 2 year old toddler. The miso soup and salad were always great, too. And, thank you so much for the ono tahitian vanilla ice cream tempura fried honey toast/pound cake! It was truly unexpected and made my birthday dinner even better!
It took longer to get in than expected even though we had reservations. Wine list was almost non-existent and poor, which is a problem for non-sake lovers. Sashimi and sushi was good, tempura was average at best.
We had a great meal. The service was friendly and prompt. We loved all our dishes. The Hawaiian volcano roll so good! And even the vegetable roll for our vegetarian at the table was better than in most places. Would go there again next time we are in town.
Excellent first visit. Great selection of food and sake - we opted on a boat and were very impressed!
Good was very good. Server was more concerned with the people walking outside the patio than helping the customers.
Always a great experience. Everything is so fresh and amazing!!!
Has a great time celebrating our daughters birthday!
Everything was great until the server told us to leave after we paid because there were people waiting. We spent 45 minutes celebrating our anniversary and she asked us to leave. That was rude!!!
Fantastic sushi! Excellent service and everything tasted perfect! Even the side salad was standout!!
We had reservations and originally placed inside where the noise level was extremely high. The staff had a two person table moved outside where we had a small view of the ocean (to no fault of theirs, the restaurant is in the middle of a hallway/strip mall ) where the noise level was much quieter and I was able to have a nice date night. We order appetizers (edamame, salmon poppers and clams). The salmon poppers are highly recommended.
Dinner consisted of 5 sushi rolls, Mauna Kea, 2 Hawaiian Volcano rolls, Spicy Tuna and the Spicy Mongoose. The spicy tuna was our least favorable but the fried roll and Hawaiians were delicious and highly recommended.
The staff catered to us quickly and the food was great. I recommend the restaurant and advise booking a reservation. Seating had filled up by the time we had our 6:15 reservation.
Telling the hostess that we had multiple reservations she gave us a “look” and said you should’ve called ahead for this many people because we don’t have enough seats right now. We were on time for the reservations and there were “not enough sets for all the reservations”. Her attitude towards customers is very rude and unappreciated while on vacation.
Spider roll a must. Reasonable prices great quality
Sushi Shiono is pretty much my go-to restaurant because of its consistently fresh, clean ingredients; attractive presentation; and the friendly and efficient staff.
Amazing food and service! Best sushi we’ve ever had!
Excellent food, service, and staff
Wow, sushi and cooked Japanese food that are both excellent!
Many very traditional rolls, plus several very creative rolls - for example eel inside with a special sauce and yellowtail & salmon outside - which was fantastic!
The two servers in this small restaurant literally were running the whole time taking care of everyone plus the to go orders. No idea how they did it, but our food came out fast and they had great attitudes.
5 stars for this hidden gem.
This was a pretty legit-seeming sushi place, which I appreciated. Didn't seem touristy. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have gyoza and their miso tasted different from what I am used to (but hey, I suppose everyone has different preferences, right?). I don't eat sushi but my partner said the sushi was good.
We had a reservation. At first we were seated inside, but felt a little too close to my neighbors. The tables were very very close, and I am just not comfortable yet being 2 feet away from people I don’t know inside. Of note: Mask laws are still in effect on the big island.
Although they wouldn’t move me further away to a corner table because it was set up for four people, they moved me outside, and it was fine. BTW there we’re plenty of 4 tops with only 2 people seated.
Sage was the server, and she couldn’t have been nicer. They were busy, but she was still attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my miso butter fish, and the Mauna Kea roll. We also had the Furikake chicken. Very rich and flavorful.. Just delicious.
Thanks again Sage for the excellent service!
The waitress barely came to our table. I ordered an appetizer that was forgotten about and never came so I had to cancel it The food was very good but unfortunately based on the service I won’t return.
Excellent quality food! We go often and haven’t had anything but great experiences there.
Had a reservation but still had to wait for a table. Waited almost 45 minutes for food after ordering. Ordered sashimi but got sushi. Fish was warm not cold, rolls were mediocre at best. They seem to like to fry everything there. Would not go back again.
Poor service from a pushy waitress. Food was ok.
Fresh and delicious food, good service, reasonable prices, casual and comfortable ambiance.
Fresh and delicious food—I recommend getting one of the sushi / sashimi boats. Helpful and prompt service.
Everything was delicious!
Excellent food, an extensive menu, and a quiet view of the ocean just across the street. I highly recommend the lobster tempura appetizer and the soft shell crab appetizer.
Excellent food at a great value. Highly recommend and will return. Loved the Dynamite and Furikake chicken appetizers
