   This place was amazing. The sushi chef knows his art backwards and cowards, classically trained. We had a wonderful time and for one of our it was the first omakase.. he was sold immediately.

   Quiet Sushi spot. (The place will turn into Karaoke bar after dinner. We were told we had to leave as they needed to prep for the next guest which was fine by us...the entire sushi counter was empty though.) Good Sushi. We were told they use the fish from Japan and some items are locally caught seafood. All tasted nice and fresh. The servers were not as friendly as you'd expect at the Japanese sushi restaurant.

   Worst experience ever. The place is really weird and we were told the kids has to be 21 and older to be able to sit at a sushi bar for food.

   If you’re in Hawaii and love sushi, then you have to try Shingetsu! In my 25 years of savoring high-end sushi in Tokyo, I never thought I’d find an establishment outside Japan that could rival the impeccable craftsmanship and authenticity of traditional sushi at the price point Shingetsu provides. However, nestled in Honolulu, I discovered a gem that truly represents the true qualities and styles that made me believe I was in Tokyo having an amazing “Edo” style sushi! If you don’t know what Edo style sushi means, please kindly look up on Google… The chef Ken-san worked with Suntory at the Royal Hawaiian Center for 15 years so you can trust that integrity is there. If you like those spicy whatever rolls or California rolls, you won’t find them there. Shingetsu and Ken-san provides an authentic Edo style sushi experience you could only have in Japan, for half the price of those at Sushisho and other places!

    Sushi Shingetsu is a little hidden gem that is ridiculously underrated. Ken-san was a sushi chef at Suntory for about 15 years before he left to start his own venture. I've have been here twice and each time was different so it's nice to see that he's basing his omakase experience on seasonality. He told my friends and I that 90% of his ingredients were directly from Toyosu fish market in Tokyo and the other 10% locally caught or produced. The price point is $120/person but when you consider that price relative to other local omakase around town, it's a deal.
