Sushi Kappo Tamura
Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.
*Please note that a 20% living wage charge is included (dine in only). The house retains 100% of these charges to help fund higher wages and benefits to all staff. Additional gratuity is not expected.
Absolutely wonderful experience. The food was delectable and well prepared with great attention to detail. The atmosphere was welcoming, sophisticated and approachable. A great date night.
Sushi Kappo Tamura has quickly become my wife and I's favorite sushi restaurant in Seattle.
Great experience for my wife on her birthday with front row seats at the sushi bar with Taichi.
We eat here weekly. Always fresh, always delicious - wonderful service.
Amazing sushi, calm ambiance... tons of non-sushi options on the menu that we didn’t try this time, but would be an easy place to go with folks who are interested in Japanese food with less raw fish. Highly recommend sitting at the bar—chefs are friendly and will chat with you about the sushi you’re getting as they plate it.
New favorite sushi in Seattle!
Overall, would not recommend this restaurant. High prices for very small portions...which were nothing special. They also add a automatic 20% gratuity regardless of service and we were a party of 2 which received very poor service. By poor service, on 3 occasions during our meal we had to get the hostess to get our waitress....which would be understandable if busy...but there was only 1 other table occupied in the entire restaurant.
Great food, free dessert for my friend's birthday, nice quiet ambience, spacious. Highly recommend.
Chef Matt prepared an excellent Omakase and the service was impressive. Delicious and many sustainable fish options
As always Matt provides exceptional service, passion, and knowledge at the counter. An experience not to be missed!
We went to visit based on it being the only Seattle location on the Opentable national top50 list. We elected for the Omakase tasting menu with a bottle of sake to split for the 4 of us. The server was very knowledgable and made a great Sake recommendation. We really enjoyed the tasting menu, both the hot and cold/sushi courses. Dessert was also tasty. Our only disappointment was being surprised at the end of the 20% service charge. From what we had read prior to going, the charge was included in the cost of the food/beverages without additional gratuity which justified the high prices in our mind. Instead we were hit with a pretty substantial gratuity fee that we didn't expect. Even when a card came out with the bill explaining the 20% automatic gratuity it wasn't clear that this would be added on. So, my review in short is solid service, great waitress, delicious food, well designed location, but over-priced.
This place gave me the best sushi I have ever had and that is saying a lot. I cannot wait to come back to Seattle to eat here again. Thanks Matt for attending to my culinary needs. What really makes this place is the ingredients they have to work with. I have only in Japan and New York seen this kind of quality and variety on a sushi menu. And some of them very sustainable i might add. Thanks Again Sushi Kappo Tamura You rock.
Waiter knowledgeable and shares the passion for sushi.
This is my favorite restaurant. Period. Food great. Service great. Everyone friendly. My daughter picks this as her special place to go when she is home from school on break. Love!!
Eugene (and Matt) offer a fantastic experience at the sushi bar... educational, entertaining, and engaging. All the best that Seattle Sushi culture has to offer, along with amazing food, sake, and deserts. As always, well done guys!
This was a great meal. The service was extremely attentive without being unctuous. The fish was delicious and the sushi chefs were very friendly. Albacore and Sockeye Salmon Belly Nigiri and the Gari Saba Roll were standouts, but it was all very good. The one item that I was mixed about was the Negihama Roll. The texture was different than I’m used to probably due to the addition of avocado. It was still good, just different. Having been to Shiro’s, Sushi Kashiba, Nishino many times and Momiji recently, I would go back to Sushi Kappo Tamura first and highly recommend it.
We were very impressed. Great attention to detail, great presentation, great service. We had the five-course dinner and the overall effect was the most similar to an authentic kaiseki dinner (served in a Japanese ryokan) we have had anywhere outside of Japan, in terms of variety and quality. The sushi quality is as good as you can get in the Pacific Northwest, which is to say, the best you can get anywhere.
Not a cheap meal but the cost of an amazing experience. The ingredients are phenomenal, with some locally sourced and sustainability strongly considered, while other items require sourcing directly from Japan. Our first time as out of towners at Sushi Kappo Tamura but not our last. We had the 7 course 'makase' (chief's creation) and it was about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour dining experience. Well done, keep up the small details that make it the experience it is.
Amazing food and service. Delicious sustainably caught fish. Become a regular at this restaurant!
Love eating here! It’s the best!
Never been disappointed having dinner at Sushi Kappo Tamura. The fish is always top quality! We went to celebrate a golden birthday.
Food was excellent. Did the 5 course tasting. Perhaps a little under filling, would recommend going with a la carte. Service left a lot to be desired, had to track someone down every time we were in need ( glass of wine, etc) of something which was very distracting. Mandatory gratuity made me feel like the drive for great service was not as necessary. Felt like they were phoning it in. Kind of a bummer. Food was super tasty.
Delicious food, server was enthusiastic and attentive
Excellent quality of food and service as always. Absolutely the best sushi in Seattle.
Had the pleasure of being served by the master taichi and his omakase selection. Amazing sushi, piece after piece. Each served and prepared to perfection. Do yourself a favor and try the full omakase. You will find new tastes and flavors you had never encountered before.
A great choice for anyone who appreciates the highest quality of sushi/sashimi (most/?all sustainable)and don’t mind paying a fair price for the quality.
The waitstaff and manager were wonderful, and beyond the food, I would come back for the lovely service.
We celebrate special occasions here because the food is impeccable...fresh, organic, delicious & the service is stellar! The staff are professional, friendly & fun!!! Love their attention to detail...the flavors are consistent presentation is awesome!
One of the most memorable meals we have had in a long time! We complete let our waiter Edward order for us and the result was fantastic. He taught us how to eat Japanese food differently and took us on a journey through the menu that we would never have discovered. He kept the price to around $100/person which was reasonable. The food here is meticulously prepared and melt in your mouth amazing. We did not leave a single morsel on the table and we have a new favorite place. AMAZING
Our server was amazing! Gave us outstanding recommendations and the order he brought them made for the most delicious sushi we have ever had. Really made our anniversary something to remember
We’ve been here a few times in the past and have really enjoyed the food although a bit pricey. This time was very good too, however, the service was not up to par. Our server seemed a bit cocky, which on its own would not be a problem, but not the case. First off, he walked away from us right in the middle of taking our order. Didn’t say a word and didn’t come right back. He also never checked on us once we received our food to make sure all was good. And I overheard him make a snide remark to couple next to us who only ordered a few low-cost items and had to leave early. Unfortunately, SKT adds a 20% gratuity to bill automatically.
We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef's choice omakase. It was awesome!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. The fish was really fresh and the presentation was outstanding.
Food was good. Found portions to be on the small side and price was on the expensive side.
The service was amazing and the food was delicious.
The waiter was very informative on the menu and he made great recommendations. Try something new at this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.
This is a favorite place. We have never had a bad experience. Our friends from Switzerland were blown away
Spectacular sushi! Service was oustanding and ambience was great.
