Japanese
Using local and seasonal ingredients is the most important element in Japanese cuisine. It also has become the primary principle for the international culinary community. With commitment to that philosophy, Tamura features sustainable seasonal ingredients of the Pacific Northwest in authentic Japanese preparation.

Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.

*Please note that a 20% living wage charge is included (dine in only). The house retains 100% of these charges to help fund higher wages and benefits to all staff. Additional gratuity is not expected.

It's a beautiful restaurant, but overall it was a huge disappointment. The sushi rolls were poorly constructed, quite expensive, and neither classically authentic not particularly imaginative. The waitstaff were friendly but not very accommodating. And the bill comes with a disclaimer explaining that they have added a 20% gratuity to the check, which the restaurant itself will keep in order to pay wages. Next time we are in this neighborhood, we will just go down the street to I Love Sushi.

Wife and I did not even know this restaurant was there. We found it on the Seattle Restaurant Week list and decided to try it. The food is a Japanese fusion and is nicely done. Service was very friendly and helpful. At first glance, the bill seemed a bit pricey, but that is because 20% is already tacked on and the bill comes with a large strip of paper that clearly explains why. I had absolutely no problem with it. I strongly recommend this place but it is definitely not for someone on a shoestring budget.

They usually make great sushi and the chestnut creme brulee is to die for. Nice ambiance, rather quiet. It was our go-to sushi place for a while. But when we went for the Restaurants Week menu promo, the food was average and the fish did not seem that fresh (a bit dry, less tasty than usual). So maybe avoid promotions and go for the a-la-carte menu. It was a one-time event for a usually good restaurant, though, so we'll surely come back. But will keep exploring other places, too.

At the end of the meal I received a surprise 20% additional fee. That made the restaurant week 3 for 35 thing feel like deceptive marketing and really ruined my experience. Everything up to that point was great. When that came I felt lied to and deceived.

This was a great experience. My ratings were intended to imply what the words said- that is, 3 stars = good, not average. I found the experience was fantastic. The server was very knowledgeable and I appreciated her advice and input greatly. I enjoyed all the food, and I have very high standards for Japanese. My fiancee has been to Japan multiple times and agreed that the food was great. I prefer my restaurants quieter, and I found the noise level moderate - probably a little louder than I would like, but a little quieter than the average restaurant.

Outstanding Sushi. Live in San Francisco and find myself making excuses to fly to Seattle just to go to Sushi Kappo Tamura. For me, the best sushi outside of Tsukiji in Tokyo.

Focus on Sustainability is a big plus.

This is a lovely restaurant, but at least the lunch menu was very limited and the prices high. Diners will get better value & a larger selection five minutes away at I Love Sushi (I’m not in any way connected with the latter except as a customer.) For that matter, a better udon soup than I had can be found at the Bento Box in the UDistrict nearby. I was especially irked that the waiter forgot my udon order & had to be reminded. He also disappeared for long stretches.

We have been to Sushi Kappo Tamura many times and have loved it, but this last visit was very disappointing. It seems to us that the quality of the sushi and other dishes has gone down. In addition, the portions seemed small. The slices of sashimi were thin, and the server recommended a geoduck small plate, and there were so many mushrooms the the geoduck was hard to find. Has there been a change in ownership or management?

The food was delicious. The service could have been a bit more attentive and it was a bit expensive but very high quality. The location decor and sushi bar are very attractive. There were many interesting and unusual choices on the menu that we didn’t have a chance to try. I’ll stick with Jason at Kisaku for me regular omakase but will return here for special occasions.

We walked in for a reservation at the sushi bar for two people. We were kept waiting for over 6 minutes while the girl ignored us and stayed on the phone with a reservation being made. We are from the Bay Area and should have walked out at that point.
Instead, we are at the sushi bar eating dinner and the food was mediocre at best.
We ordered miso soup which was tasteless, a grilled yellow tail collar which was greasy and lacked any flavor.
Our green beans were pasty and had a sweet clingy sauce .
The quality of the sushi was inferior and the presentation was sloppy .
We subsequently are at sushi kashiba and we were shocked at the disparity in quality and service.

We went here for a special event with high hopes based on all of the reviews. We arrived at 5p and had to wait 10 mins until they opened the doors (there were a number of people waiting so it was not klike we arrived early). They ended up bringing us the wrong food and at the end even the wrong bill. To say the service was slooowwww was an understatement. They were maybe 10 people TOTAL there as we ate our miso soup...but we didn't get out of there until almost 7p. The food was OK but not even the best sushi I've had in the past month. To add insult to injury, I was appalled when the bill arrived and I was effectively required to pay a 20% tip (aka "living wage") for some of the slowest service I've had in years. I would NEVER go to this place again and would NEVER recommend it to others.
