I had an amazing experience here. I ordered the 16pc omakase which came with a sashimi starter and a miso soup. The quality of the fish was excellent, some of the best saba I've ever had. They cure their own ikura in sake and soy sauce and it was incredible. The price-quality ratio is unheard of, a similar meal at most other places would've cost between 160-200 where as it was only $120 with tip included. I will most definitely be back soon!

Authentic, straight forward. Meticulous preparation of each item. Understated Tokyo-level service quality. The combinations of different fish and seasoning reflect their thoughtfulness and authenticity. Chef prep as good as it gets.

We had a great meal. Sushi chef who took care of us was very accommodating...asks your likes and dislikes and will adjust what is served accordingly. Our chef had a sense of humor which was nice as it made for a friendly meal. I am not such a sushi lover but really enjoyed the meal...will be back!

My wife and I went last weekend. She had a handful of dietary restrictions and I was concerned how it would go. The chef prepared a slew of options that looked (and from what I was told) tasted amazing. The service and the experience were impeccable as was the food which was unbelievably fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this unique and special restaurant.

The sushi was absolutely incredible. Each piece was carefully and expertly handled. Service was very attentive and felt like we were treated very well. The 16 piece omakase was the perfect amount and had a very well rounded selection. The counterside seating is tight but not cramped. The selection ranged from familiar items like sweet shrimp to fish I've never heard of like gold eye. The drink prices are reasonable. It is the best sushi I've had.

I’ve been here twice already and wanted to take some friends from out of town for good sushi. They did not disappoint! Service was great and the sushi was delicious. It was my friend’s birthday as well and he got an extra piece for his birthday which was a nice touch. Highly recommend coming. It’s small and cozy.

This is my husband and my second time dining here about a year apart, and we can’t wait to go back. It’s about a 14 seat sushi bar, omakase menu. Every piece we had was fantastic - none had that awful fishy taste that occasionally pops up with the typical omakase. It’s quiet and a very fun experience, especially for a quiet evening out. I find reasonably priced as well, especially for the overall dining experience. I believe it was $100 for 12 piece and $120 for 16.

Sushi Kaito is a superb omakase restaurant on the Upper West Side. The chefs are highly attentive to detail, the service is superb and the ambience in the small space is quite & very private. Compare to other place, the price for this level of service is also very good.

NYC has the best sushi restaurants in America, and Sushi Kaito is amongst the best in nyc. the intimate setting and superb service from a chef typically shared by four people complements what is just the best tasting sushi you can have.

If you are a foodie, you will love this place.

The most delicious sushi I have ever had! Bar only seating and only omekase options at $90 for 12 courses and $120 for 16 courses. We did the 16 and it was totally worth it!! The fish literally melts in your mouth.

We decided to try Sushi Kaito based on Open Table reviews, and are very happy that we did. We did the 16 piece sushi program, all done at a very simple sushi counter. The preparation was amazing, and the presentation perfect with a complete description of each piece. I consider myself a sushi/sashimi snob, and the place is quite possibly the best I've ever experienced. The service around us was attentive and efficient. This is a don't miss in my opinion if you're in the city and enjoy sushi as much as we do.

Went here pre theatre to the first seating at 5:30. All seating is at bar with your own Sushi Chef preparing your delicious meal in front of you. Sushi melted in your mouth. You can choose between a 12 or 16 pc course. Nice wine and sake list. No menu, chef prepares the meal. You are asked about any allergies prior to the meal preparation.

This is the best Japanese sushi I have ever had. I added Japanese to sushi because it is not "Asian fusion" sushi. No California roll, real wasabi ground on sharkskin. Fantastic fish.

Nice alternative to Gari and Nakazawa quality-wise. Much more basic setting. Odd but true that a $100 omakase experience represents good value.

We went for a celebratory omakase dinner and were not disappointed. We ordered the 16-piece option, which was amazing. I did not realize we could select different options from our dining partners. Next time we go, I will opt for 12, while my husband orders 16. I was so full, I could not finish by the end! But each piece was fabulous. The grated-on-the-spot wasabi, homemade ginger, and sauces and salts elevate exceptionally good fish.

What can I say, other than stay away so that I can get another reservation (there are only 12 seats, all at the bar, and all for set seating times, so you can be shut out easily). Omakase at its finest. Feri has been my sushi chef twice, and he has been superb with his descriptions and tips. If you really want to know how to eat sushi, though, by e.g. flipping some pieces upside down or sideways with your fingers, you need to ask him - he doesn't want to be too pushy.

I went with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary and we had a wonderful time! Every single piece of sushi was spectacular, as was the sake we had. We thought it was great value, definitely worth it. The staff was incredibly kind, and our chef, Oue, was amazing! Highly recommend coming here if you're looking for great Omakase!

Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and graduation dinner. Our second omakase, so we researched a bunch before deciding to go here after reading some great reviews.

Sushi:
It was not bad, but it didn't leave a particularly strong impression. The fish was sometimes a bit too cold compared to the warmer rice. I did like the interesting flavors they used to top the fish which was refreshing, such as finger lime and yuzu pepper paste; not traditional but it brought out the flavor of the fish.

Service:
The waiter/waitress was great and extremely attentive. They would refill your water glasses when it looks low and help you pour your sake. Our sushi chef was friendly and explained all the pieces and answered any questions. An elderly couple next to us brought their grandson in and they were so accommodating and created some simple makis for him.

Overall, it was good experience and he enjoyed it, but we did have higher expectations. Definitely not sushi connoisseurs, so it can be that we just don't understand good sushi, but we will be continuing to try more omakase at different places. Would still recommend for a date or evening though as a first for omakase, since it is definitely a huge upgrade from the typical sushi buffets or westernized sushi places.

I've had a couple of omakase meals in the city, prices ranging from $50-200+ per person, such as Sushi Yasaka, Sushi Dojo, Sushi by Bou, and Sushi Yasuda. Everything besides Yasuda, is a better choice for omakase, especially when comparing the price and flavors. I must say the 16 piece omakase for $120pp was not worth the price as the pieces were small and the cuts were thin, and the flavors did not "WOW" me. I read in reviews that Sushi Kaito is owned by the same owner as Sushi Yasaka, which is directly right across the street. A few of the pieces they gave us resembled pieces at Sushi Yasaka. The only difference is in the price and the setting of the restaurant, which has a more modern, contemporary look. Overall, the service was okay, they gave an extra piece for the birthday girl. I will not be returning.
