A reservation must be modified or cancelled no later than 5 PM the night prior to the reservation date. For any cancellations after the deadline, there will be a charge of $50.00 plus tax per person.
We serve 2 omakase courses, both a 12 piece and 16 piece course. We feature seasonal fish on a daily basis, often accommodating the individual preferences, such as kosher style. However, there’s no vegetarian, vegan nor strict
gluten free alternatives.
We are open from Tuesday to Sunday and offer 3 seatings, 5:30 PM, 7:15 PM and 9:00 PM, except Sundays, when the last seating is 9 PM. We are closed Mondays.
Nice alternative to Gari and Nakazawa quality-wise. Much more basic setting. Odd but true that a $100 omakase experience represents good value.
Great gem on the UWS! Shhhh
We went for a celebratory omakase dinner and were not disappointed. We ordered the 16-piece option, which was amazing. I did not realize we could select different options from our dining partners. Next time we go, I will opt for 12, while my husband orders 16. I was so full, I could not finish by the end! But each piece was fabulous. The grated-on-the-spot wasabi, homemade ginger, and sauces and salts elevate exceptionally good fish.
Excellent sushi and service. But real sushi prices
Food was amazing! Service was superb, sushi chef was lovey and fun to watch. People sitting next to us were loud and annoying. Not restaurants fault.
Great all around. Lucky to have this spot on the UWS.
service was top notch, sushi excellent. And now they have wine/saki.
Chef Feri is amazing, we have been here several times and have not been disappointed.
What can I say, other than stay away so that I can get another reservation (there are only 12 seats, all at the bar, and all for set seating times, so you can be shut out easily). Omakase at its finest. Feri has been my sushi chef twice, and he has been superb with his descriptions and tips. If you really want to know how to eat sushi, though, by e.g. flipping some pieces upside down or sideways with your fingers, you need to ask him - he doesn't want to be too pushy.
I went with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary and we had a wonderful time! Every single piece of sushi was spectacular, as was the sake we had. We thought it was great value, definitely worth it. The staff was incredibly kind, and our chef, Oue, was amazing! Highly recommend coming here if you're looking for great Omakase!
Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and graduation dinner. Our second omakase, so we researched a bunch before deciding to go here after reading some great reviews.
It was not bad, but it didn't leave a particularly strong impression. The fish was sometimes a bit too cold compared to the warmer rice. I did like the interesting flavors they used to top the fish which was refreshing, such as finger lime and yuzu pepper paste; not traditional but it brought out the flavor of the fish.
The waiter/waitress was great and extremely attentive. They would refill your water glasses when it looks low and help you pour your sake. Our sushi chef was friendly and explained all the pieces and answered any questions. An elderly couple next to us brought their grandson in and they were so accommodating and created some simple makis for him.
Overall, it was good experience and he enjoyed it, but we did have higher expectations. Definitely not sushi connoisseurs, so it can be that we just don't understand good sushi, but we will be continuing to try more omakase at different places. Would still recommend for a date or evening though as a first for omakase, since it is definitely a huge upgrade from the typical sushi buffets or westernized sushi places.
I've had a couple of omakase meals in the city, prices ranging from $50-200+ per person, such as Sushi Yasaka, Sushi Dojo, Sushi by Bou, and Sushi Yasuda. Everything besides Yasuda, is a better choice for omakase, especially when comparing the price and flavors. I must say the 16 piece omakase for $120pp was not worth the price as the pieces were small and the cuts were thin, and the flavors did not "WOW" me. I read in reviews that Sushi Kaito is owned by the same owner as Sushi Yasaka, which is directly right across the street. A few of the pieces they gave us resembled pieces at Sushi Yasaka. The only difference is in the price and the setting of the restaurant, which has a more modern, contemporary look. Overall, the service was okay, they gave an extra piece for the birthday girl. I will not be returning.
Just great dinner
New interesting wine/beverage list
the service is amazing...the restaurant is really small, so you need to do a reservation
The food is fantastic. I love the omekase experience.
Very good assortment of fish, everything seemed super fresh. Chef was personable enough and gave good insight on all the fish. We went here a year ago it is has gotten way better since the first time. Excited to go back.
Wonderful people. Insanely good food.
We loved the omakase at Sushi Kaito. The staff was amazing and anticipated our every request. The fish was perfectly fresh and impeccably sliced. We tried some familiar varieties and some unusual ones too! It was very well priced for the value of the food and experience.
We really enjoyed our time here. I went with a good friend and the chef was extremely friendly and welcoming. Of course the food was spectacular and the ingredients were very fresh. One of the best place for a reasonable priced omakaze in the upper west side and I would definitely go again.
There is no better omakase on the UWS. Great chefs and wait staff to boot.
It was great experience for 12 pieces. Service was awesome.
A very special dining experience.
A truly authentic experience. Exquisite!
As usual, it was excellent authentic sushi. Now they have a good selection of Sake, too.
Sushi Kaito is my new favorite place on the UWS!
Everything is fantastic, the food, the service and the ambiance.
Kaito is one of the elite omakase meals in the city, but without the elite price tag. Unfortunately, I was in that sushi bliss state so I can’t remember the details of each piece that was served.
They now offer wine and sake at fair prices.
Chef greg made for a very special night. He answered any question and explained each course throughly. Hands down the best sushi I have had.
New sushi counter omakase in UWS. Great quality fish but rice could be improved.
We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Kaito. My son is 12 and had been asking for an omakase experience for several months. I did some research on more affordable options and settled on Sushi Kaito because of the location and the reviews. I wanted my son to really taste the fish and understand the importance of that quality and freshness before taking him to one of the blowout sushi restaurants. I did let the restaurant know a younger diner would be coming. They were very lovely to both of us. Our chef answered our questions and was wonderful with my son. The rest of the staff were attentive and charming as well. The fish was very, very good. Definitely extremely fresh and well prepared. We liked each course and had a fairly even number of white, silver, and other types. It is a fairly straightforward presentation, none of the fireworks you can get in those very high-end establishments, but I think it is excellent bang for the buck and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Excellent! Prices were 20% higher than online and then we were expecting.
sushi kaito offers great sushi omakase. This was already my third visit since they opened and I always end up getting the 16 piece omakase. I’ve tried sushi omakase from other restaurants in nyc but this is by far the best.
A delicious, authentically Japanese experience...worth every penny
Great place with an excellent fish. A must try for those who like sushi.
Best omakase we have had in New York. Delightful service. Expensive but worth it.
Great sushi, great chef, and great service
Authentic Omakase style sushi now on UWS! Kaito now serves Sake & Wine. Arigato Kaito!
Best Omakase in NYC! Fresh fish and affordable price. Only $120 (including tip) for 16 pcs Omakase.
