Contemporary American
In the 1940’s, Cube McGee saw a paradise unlike anywhere else in the world and decided to build a community around it. He shaped Seagrove Beach into the vibrant, soulful place it is today. He was also a local celebrity, with his pet deer named Bambi. They could be seen each morning on the beach, playing in the surf. So, to pay homage to Cube, we decided to keep the legend and the soul of 30-A alive by naming our latest addition to the Hartley Restaurant Group, Surfing Deer—a place where folks can dine, create memories and enjoy the beauty of our beach.

Come on in and get the freshest seafood on 30A along with many other innovative dishes from everyone’s favorite Chef, Greggory Smith.

The food tasted fantastic but we spent $120 and left starving. We literally we home and made a pizza. And the pizza was better.

Our visit to Surfing Deer while vacationing in Seagrove was wonderful! Great service and amazing food. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend for a nice, upscale dinner for special occasions or a date night.

The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed the food. My problem with me giving a recommendation is this: When our server came for our drink order I asked for my check to be separate. I was with my friend, her daughter and granddaughter and didn’t want to impose. He explained that one check per table. Very cold and impersonal. Why can u not write more than one order/check per table? What is the reason for this rule? It may be on your website. I have eaten all over the gulf coast and this is the only place I have encountered this problem. I rarely carry cash. Thankfully I had enough cash on me to pay my share. I noticed the table next to ours - they were struggling to all come up with cash to pay.
2) the server who took our order never came back to our table except to deliver the check. A very nice young man refilled our drinks and boxed things up. We made sure we gave him our tip. One of us ordered tea from the server. He never brought it. The young man who checked on us delivered our tea
3) I asked the server about a dish. The Acadian. His reply was that it was “brown”. ???? It was delicious and I ordered it anyway but really?? This was all he could tell me.
Anyway. I enjoyed my meal. As I said it was delicious. But I don’t see me frequenting your restaurant. Too many other good places to eat with better service.

Small portions for the price and medium rare steak was well done . I noted that it was a special occasion and it was never acknowledged.

Not a good experience:

Service not good. No water or drink refills. Never checked on us after we started eating. Charged full price for drinks during happy hour. Never got our appetizer.

Food portions were tiny. Very expensive.

They tried to clear the table as we were standing up to leave.

Definitely never coming back.

We had the best server, Anthony! Not only did he recommended our entrees and desserts. He gave us his honest opinion, which I find hard to get at resturants these days. We consistently had our waters refilled and not have to wait. The blue crab w/avocado martini for appetizers are to die for😋. I highly recommend the seafood entree if you're a seafood lover and the Scallop. End the night with the banana pudding cheesecake for dessert!

One of the best restaurants on 30A. The menu is so diverse in its offerings it makes it hard to make a selection because every item is amazing - luckily our party of 7 basically ordered everything! I would highly recommend it.

I have driven by this restaurant a thousand times and I regret not eating here sooner. Everything from start to finish was superb. We had drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. I had the spatini at the recommendation of the bartender and it was perfect. We were seated outside and saw the sunset, just gorgeous. We ordered the clothesline bacon and it was delicious. For entrees, I had the scallops, my husband had the seafood Acadiana, and my daughter had the kids filet mignon with mashed taters instead of fries. My scallops were prepared perfectly with just the right blend of south (collards, black eye peas), the kids filet was tender, but my husband’s acadiana was out of this world. It tasted like we were in New Orleans. We had the banana pudding cheesecake and the s’mores brownie for desert. Both were very good, but I’m a big fan of banana pudding so I really enjoyed it. The service was great, attentive without being pushy and. We will definitely be back again.

Our yearly family vacation trip included the Surfing Deer, we visited this restaurant upon a recommendation.
Our entry to the establishment was a bit rough, the hostess immediately let us know our reservations had been pushed back 20 plus minutes. I found it irritating an apology didn’t proceed this communication in consideration to their strict guidelines of late arrivals past 15 minutes or cancellations after noon the same day of $25 per person.
Once we made it to the table our very pleasant attendant let us know the restaurant wasn’t keeping up and he would get to us promptly, we sat over 15 minutes without any attendance.
When it finally became time for our turn of attendance things rocked on nicely.
If you want to be catered to or have high expectations for personalization for the cost, this isn’t the place for you. If you can manage to entertain yourself and don’t mind paying a bit higher prices for a step above the outside food court, this is the place to visit.
Glad we tried it but definitely NOT WORTH the money they expect!

Outstanding meal, and good service. Recommend the valecencia dish and the vegan wings, but the shrimp appetizer was also really good. Only rough part of the meal was the Cube McGee cocktail...way too smokey, but should have known from the description. Cool place, nice menu, and great food.

Wow what an incredible atmosphere! We had a wonderful time! Food is great! Small portions but LARGE taste! Our waiter was kinda slow, took him 20 minutes to get to us an another 25 to take our order, but the other food runners were amazing! We had a fantastic seat on patio and it was beautiful! I'd reccomend this anyone who wants quality food and doesnt mind waiting for it lol

We came here last summer and loved it so much that we ended up coming again that same week. Fast forward to this summer and we have (had) two nights reserved for this place. Tonight, the food was great but the service was awful. I don’t believe it was the waiters fault, more likely the kitchen as it seemed as if no one else had food in our area. For context, appetizers (salads) didn’t get to us for 45 min at least. And It took almost 2 hours for our entrees to arrive. We were a party of 4 with a toddler and that was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. No explanation or apologies were given. We will be canceling our second reservation for the week.

The food was outstanding and innovative. The Brussels Sprout slaw was unique and delicious. Our waiter was very good, but very busy. We loved the complimentary valet parking which meant easy access to the restaurant without getting on 30A. We don’t eat anywhere in the Summer that won’t take reservations. They were most efficient in that regard. Definitely will go back.

The food was very good but not overly so. We had the hanging bacon appetizer which was unique in its presentation but nothing over-the-top with regards to taste or flavors. Very good bacon, there were beans and small biscuits as part of the presentation as well not sure I would order again after having it once. We also had fried calamari which was done well but the same fried calamari you would get at several dozen other restaurants. The dipping sauce served with the calamari was a little unique but that was about it.

My son and I both had the surf and turf with very good steak and yellowfin tuna medallions. Both were excellent. My wife had the grouper special which was pretty good as well. They had a somewhat limited selection of wine by the glass but the Pinot Noir that I had I enjoyed.

The atmosphere was upscale chic similar to the vibe you would get at a W hotel in a large city in a downtown area. I would definitely return but may go back for lunch.

Parking is limited but they do have free valet on site.

For four people we spent $300 plus a tip to the valet and a couple drinks at the bar while waiting for our table which ran another $25 with tip.

If you’re looking for a nice dinner out with a significant other or family and friends you can’t go wrong here just don’t expect the food to jump off the plate with unique flavors or undiscovered food options.

We had a large group of 12 and this was our one nice dinner out together while on our extended family vacation together. We reserved outside patio seating and it was fabulous. Service was friendly but the wait for our food was very long after ordering. Luckily the patio atmosphere was so nice we didn’t mind that much. Food was great. Clothesline bacon, scallops, fillet, lamb, everything was enjoyed. We would go back in the future.

We are locals and have dined at Surfing Deer many times. Had always been a great experience until this weekend. We arrived 14 minutes late due to unexpected traffic. Had called to advise we were running late. They were not able to seat us at our preferred outdoor seating as requested due to an internal ‘10 minute’ policy. Odd as rarely they have been able to seat us in this same 10 minute window.

As well they seated us in their second dining room which has no ambience. It normally is reserved for private groups. Our wait staff was junior and inexperienced.

All and all they missed the mark do a top-tier dining experience. Too bad, not sure we’ll ever be back Definitely taking this Restaurent off our list of recommended great spots to our friends.

We live in this area and have been to this restaurant many times. It is beautiful, airy ,and in a great location. We also want to support our local businesses, during the crowded seasons and, especially, the quiet months. However, the food continues to disappoint. The cobia was dry and over cooked and the crab cakes full of filler. The service was excellent, but, in the end, it cannot make up for lackluster food when there are many restaurants on 30-A to chose from.
