We’ve been coming to Carmel for decades and this location was originally a bookstore. It’s been a couple of restaurants but Sur is a winner. Some locals suggested we try it and it was amazing. The cheese bread is addictive as an appetizer. My wife had chicken Marsala which she loved and finished (which she often doesn’t). I had lobster ravioli and the sauce was delicious with lots of lobster meat, not just lobster flavoring. Austin, our server, was great. He was friendly and professional and gave us some history about the area. It was pretty quiet since we were there early on a Wednesday but it got busier when we were leaving. Austin said they’re now open for lunch as well. We were full but split some delicious gelato that was very refreshing. We will definitely be back.

The food was good but we waited almost two hours for our food. It was Mother’s Day and the place was busy. They didn’t even comp any of our food. We paid full price for an almost two hour wait. My son’s Mac and cheese was cold and the waiter tried to make it up by putting 4 chocolates on an ice thing with smoke. Not a great experience, and I wish they would have made it up by removing a meal or something else, but it seems like they just wanted our cash. I wish I could say I would go back but didn’t really enjoy our experience.

Our server, Ash, was great, really friendly and on top of everything. We sat outside and it did get a little warm in the sun, but that was our choice. The food was very good. Fried artichokes were the best I've had, not greasy at all, super crisp with two different dipping sauces. My two of us had fried chicken and it was perfect. Crisp and moist. The sides on the dinner were all good and the waffle on the other plate had a great flavor and was tender. The sand dabs were very good, also nice and crisp with a nice assorment of vegetables and good sauce. My son ate every bite of his fish and chips until he was uncomfortable so I assume they were good. My dil enjoyed her ravioli, though she didn't care for the scallops that came on top. She said they were too chewy. And they brought my birthday kid a fun bonbon dessert that we were all able to share. Oh, and all of the cocktails we tried were good. I can name them all, but we each had a different one so, I'd say if those five were good, the rest probably are too. I will definitely return.

We're staying here in Carmel for a few days for a birthday trip for my wife. On this trip,we also brought our Frenchie with us, so we've been looking for all the dog friendly places we could find. I used my BringFido app to search for restaurants, and the first one that popped up was Sur at The Barnyard. The patio where we sat was a little on the small side but was set up very nicely. The patio heaters also kept it very comfy on a little chilly evening. We started off with an order of their famous cheese bread. It was very tasty. My wife had the French Dip, which she said was very good. I had the Kona Steak, which was delicious! Just imagine a 12oz marinated strip steak with a kona coffee dry rub, then blackened 🤌🏼. Even lil Saint had a 10oz New York strip. By the speed in which he ate his steak, I can say with all confidence that that it was delicious! Our server, who was named Alpha, was awesome! He didn't come around too much, but just the right amount of times to make sure we had what we needed. Overall, two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼 This will be one of our stops the next time we come out here. Try this place out. It won't disappoint.

I’ll start with the good and say that our waiter was amazing, and the food was pretty good. My husband had the spicy burger and loved it, I had the fried chicken and it was middle of the road, but not bad. The food came out quickly even with a full restaurant. There were a few things that were frustrating though, we made reservations and requested outside, we still waited for a table for 15 minutes with reservations and two parties with no reservations who arrived while we were there were seated before us. I thought this made sense because it was a small patio and she said they were getting our table ready, but when they finally sat us they sat us inside and said nothing was available for the patio (fine, but why did we have to wait when people without reservations didn’t?). Also they say us in a corner, which again was fine, but even though the table was clean the corner shelf/window sill was covered in old food and even a dirty cleaning rag. I’m not usually very picky about that stuff, but it was pretty gross.

The food was blah and over priced. My sand dabs were mushy as if they had been fried earlier and warmed up, rice was also gummy. Very little flavor to anything. Veggies also seemed warmed over. Service was friendly and excellent. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
