Sun Moon Studio is a farmer and producer-driven restaurant in West Oakland by Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper.

We offer a multi-course tasting menu for $150 per person in our intimate, 4-table dining room. An optional beverage pairing is available for $90 per person. The focus of our menu is to highlight the bounty of local producers and farmers through the lens of our life experiences. *Please note: beginning July 18th, 2025 the tasting menu price will increase to $180. *

We are happy to adjust our menu to accomodate dietary restrictions, but require advanced notice. Please let us of your party's dietaries when making a reservation so we may plan for your arrival.

Reservations are released on a rolling basis, 6 weeks in advance at 12 noon.

Farm and producer driven tasting menu in West Oakland in an intimate 4 table restaurant, by Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper. Multi-course prix-fixe menu featuring local and sustainably sourced ingredients directly from farmers, ranchers, producers, and fishermen interpreted through the lens of Northern California Cuisine. We will gladly prepare for dietary restrictions as long as there is advanced notice. Please note that a credit card number is required at the time of reservation. This is not a deposit and charges of $75/person will only be applied for cancellations or reduction of party size within 3 days of reservation date.

What a memorable, lovely meal in a warm and inviting space! I could taste the love and care the chefs put into each dish, and felt like they were able to highlight the essence of each thoughtfully-selected ingredient. I would highly recommend Sun Moon Studio for any celebration, big or small.

This place is amazing. The food is spot on. We’ve been twice. The second time with our 11 year old who ate everything. They were good at making me vegetarian food, too!

From the music that I noticed but didn't notice in the best way, to the calming ambience and friendly service, I was immediately at ease. I chose to experience SMS as a solo diner and it was exactly the calm environment I needed to taste every sophisticated yet approachable flavor and decompress. The food was fresh, creative without being too overthetopinventive, and the chefs were not only flexible with my preferences but extremely friendly as they serve some of the dishes themselves. This is a special place. I can't wait to go back!

Their ability to highlight fresh ingredients and intense flavor is amazing. We especially loved the uni and tofu duo, sausage on brioche and egg tart with salmon roe. Our n/a drinks were super tasty, as was the shiso ice cream. Super friendly chefs and staff. A new local fave for sure!

Each dish was a lovely surprise- so thoughtfully prepared, balanced, with wonderful textures and plated beautifully. Several of them were real treats that we do not regularly get- Santa Barbara sea urchin, Taiwanese sausage, Monterey abalone. The twelve course meal was more than ample and included 4 desserts! (I think an extra was due to the fact that we were celebrating a birthday.) A packaged olive oil cake was sent home with each patron. A nice way to extend the lovely meal to the following morning. You would not find this restaurant unless you were deliberately looking it. The venue is very small and charming. Everyone greeted us upon entering; likewise, everyone came to say goodbye and thank you when we left... akin to a VERY upscale mom and pop restaurant.

Excellent experience and food. What a lovely intimate location with outstanding creative fresh food served with perfect execution and flavors. This is a long and somehow non-exhausting tasting menu, and I looked forward to every dish. Even the desserts were spectacular. Top it of with amazing sake options that pair with the food.

This has to be one of the best restaurants to come around in 10 years. Not a bad dish was served. Some truly creative dishes that were always focused on flavor.
