Sugar and Scribe
Cute little place with amazing food! A little pricy but not unreasonable.
Love this place. The best coffee and pastries!
Very snobby attitude from the host, food was good, and service was quick. This restaurant is definitely for more of a older crowd.
I understand that brunch is a busy time, but putting 3 people at a tiny two-person table is a very bad move and makes for an uncomfortable restaurant experience. I will not be going back if this happens again. However, our server was excellent and we loved her.
I visit this restaurant with a small group of 3-5 others almost weekly for breakfast. We return regularly because the food is delicious with a lovely presentation and the service is good. We love Donna who is an excellent and highly experienced server.
This was our first visit to Sugar and Scribe and we had a very tasty breakfast for five in a nice outdoor setting on the patio. The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was delicious with the Full Irish Breakfast coming in for special mention. We definitely will be back!
Delicious food and great service. Will be back very soon!!
It always a new experience when going to Sugar and Scribe. The food and service are fantastic especially the eggs benedict and the chicken salad. Always have to take a treat home from the bakery.
ALWAYS a delicious meal with nice service! Don't miss out on this restaurant experience.
The brunch choices are varied and somewhat unique. The lemon ricotta pancakes with orange coriander syrup were delicious and an example of something that's not the ordinary breakfast fare. The service was pleasant and helped with suggestions. Will definitely return.
We love going to Sugar and Scribe! Every dish is delicious!
And the staff are so pleasant and friendly. Thanks for a great experience every time!
Awesome food. Awesome mimosas.
The food is really good and the desserts are amazing.
We love going to Sugar and scribe
Food is always amazing ,atmosphere is very pleasant.
Great food- delicious chicken salad and the quiche looked wonderful for my guest. Very comfortable seating and attentive staff. Will definitely be back!
This is my 2nd time eating here and it was just as good as the first time. Fresh quality food. Great Bloody Marys!
Best hot chocolate around. Their Sligo breakfast is good too
One of the most delicious breakfast I have ever had
Food is always great. Service can be off and on but today it was very good. Try their baked goods- amazing!
Asked for an indoor table in the corner for 6 when I made my reservation. Even went into the restaurant and hour before to confirm the table. Did not have one ready for us when we showed up for our reservation. We waited while they set a table up right in the middle of the dining area. It was very noisy and too big a table for our group. Old was just okay. We all ordered the same thing because it was so good the last time we ate there. The bread was so tough you couldn’t bite through it. Ended up eating our sandwich like a salad. All of us! The waitress never came back to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. Just laid our bill on the table! I don’t think we will go back! All of us are residents of La Jolla.
My food came out partially cold (I cannot eat cold gravy) and when I sent it back for heat it took 20 minutes for them to warm it up.
The service was sparse and my order was incorrect. I ordered a cappuccino with coconut milk and received almond. My eggs Benedict was cold. My pancake however was good. I was excited to come to this place as I always look forward when visiting La Jolla, but today was not a good day. Advice, double check your order!
Our server was friendly and efficient. Food is delicious
Good food,Service not very good, very clean restaurant.
Bright and happy atmosphere inside. Delicious food. Friendly service. Can’t wait to go back and bring all my friends.
Sadly disappointed. Been wanting to go since saw Chef Maeve on Food Channel, winning competitions. The breakfast was simple but well cooked, my daughter's choice was over loaded with gravy that overpowered the components. After breakfast, perused the bakery for some goodies to take home. The presentation is nice. Chose a mini banana flour-free loaf that was moist and lovely, but almost no banana flavor. Chose a peanut butter cookie that was crisp, but no peanut flavor and flavor was flat under sweet for me - one bite was enough. Chose a "double chocolate cookie" that was chewy with great texture but almost no flavor; again tossed after one bite. Chose a mini bundt carrot cake - we each took one bite of a VERY dry boring, but well spiced, cake, and gave the rest to the dogs, who loved it. High expectations not met, unfortunately.
We went to Sugar and Scribe for breakfast.
The California Benedict is amazing!!
Lemon curd pancakes - also pretty great!
This place is absolutely killing it - I don’t even like desserts and I ended up eating all of them before my partner could even taste. Came back for breakfast and its was banging! High quality food, healthy, tasty!
We had the Blat, Artichoke Chicken Sandwich, and Unicorn lemon curd pancakes. All three were great, especially the pancakes. They were fluffy and lightly sweet which was perfect because the unicorn touch with the sprinkles, edible glitter, and homemade marshmallows acted like the added sweetener on top.
Wonderful food & service. One of my favorite places in La Jolla.
Wonderful as always. We have been going for years. Now everyone knows about it and you need reservations.
Believe the hype. It's ALL GOOD! This place deserves every accolade. We planned 2 more trips back while finishing our meals here!!
This is one of the few brunch spots in La Jolla where you can make a reservation, which is great. Food was excellent on the varied menu. They pack a lot of people/tables into the space, so be prepared for the noise if you are planning on conversation, or request an outside table.
The service was not good. The hostess was not friendly and did not greet us with a smile. The waitress was very busy, didn't fill up our water and never checked on us after the food was delivered. She apologized and told us she was the only waitress on the patio. Why is she the only server on the patio on a busy Saturday brunch? We felt rushed to hurry up and eat because they had a lot of people waiting to be seated.
Always a favorite when in the area
A very nice restaurant with a great menu! Breakfast was amazing and the bakery was very “inviting!”
Amazing spot for brunch!
The best spot visited during our recent trip to US!!!
Staff, ambience, food, all made our breakfast the nicest experience during our stay!!!
Cingrats to the owner and the entire Team!!!
