Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

Went for brunch.
Shrimp and grits were good enough but not outstanding.
Chicken and waffles were very good.
Avocado toast (without bacon) was good – lots of avocado.
Coffee was good.
The server did nothing wrong but was neither friendly nor attentive. The back servers/busboys were excellent – friendly and quickly brought coffee refills/water/a spoon.
A previous dinner at Succotash was better than today’s brunch, so I will certainly go again but I hope they return to their 5 star performance.
As an aside, the building is beautiful.
Wow! Everything that comes out of the kitchen is incredible! This is the third time I've dined here in the last 30 days. The space is as amazing as the food, and the staff seems to really love what they do.
It could be so great! Building is iconic and beautiful. Service and food presentation falls short.
food and atmosphere were top notch, will definitely return.
The entire restaurant was amazing! Only thing I didn’t like was I asked if they had sweet tea, and it being a southern Asian food crossover I figured they would have tea. But they didn’t and the waiter looked appalled I asked for it, yet they have soda and I thought that was lower end compared to tea. Everything g else was amazing the chicken and waffles was divine!!!
Food and service was outstanding
Excellent Service. My family and I (wife and 2 kids (3yrs and 10 months) came in with not reservation on a Saturday afternoon and were able to get a seat in the Vault area where we could be secluded. It was great b/c we had the stroller and sleepy 3yr old to deal with but the booth was perfect. Staff was friendly and food came out in an acceptable time limit. The smoked wings were the highlight and the fried chicken and waffles were on-point. The biscuits on the benedict were a little smooshy from the sauce and the "pulled" pork tasted more shaved and tough than soft. Overall though, great place. I would definitely come back for brunch.
Went here for a late dinner on a Friday. The ambiance is really nice in this restaurant. Ended up having dinner at the bar. Had the salmon and the halibut. Both dishes were cooked very well. Will go back again.
A beautiful experience. Great food and wonderful service.
Succotash never fails me. Brought our friend who recently moved here and he was greatly impressed at the service and food quality. Our server did an amazing job, wasn't overbearing and wasn't neglectful. Which is something we really dislike about some place in DC. We weren't rush which was another plus. Manager even came by and joked around when the lights accidently came on too bright. Great experience for us always and our guest had a even better first impression to Succotash. I am definitely more convinced why this place always seems to be my go to when we have friends come into town. They haven't failed us yet and hopefully they won't. Keep up the superb job in serving good quality food and portion sizes and exceptional customer service.
As a fan of Edward Lee, the menu is not quite as adventurous as I was hoping. But many good dishes—hats off to the “seasonal vegetable”—a delightful cucumber concoction. And the fried chicken with gochuchang.
My family of three ordered the Taste of the South. What a fantastic meal!! Service was fantastic, and the space itself is stunning. Don’t hesitate!
Beautiful restaurant, impeccable service and amazing food
Our server, Will, was great! He was personable and attentive. The food was a perfect combination of southern and Asian. Fried green tomatoes were excellent!! The ambiance was casual yet sophisticated.
Loud but everything else was great. Would definitely go again. Beautiful southern food.
Great restaurant. Our favorite is the cornbread and ribs. Lots of good choices on the menu; but, the ribs are absolutely phenomenal, very succulent and full of flavor. Would recommend Succotash for anyone seeking "down home" southern cuisine.
Amazing southern cuisine with some strong culinary refinement
Great place. Food was really good. Go to the bar upstairs in the back. It has a great atmosphere
My fiancé and I just purchased a home and wanted to celebrate. The first was delicious, and the drinks were tasty. I had two hey peaches (I think that’s the name) I will definitely come back again. Since we had the last reservation we were short on time and can enjoy dessert.
The restaurant is in an old bank building, the Equitable. As a special treat, Chef Lee was in the restaurant and we were able to meet him. Our table opted for the "TASTE OF THE SOUTH" which is a type of fixed menu with collard greens, bbq short ribs with cole slaw and served on a bed of dirty rice, fried catfish with a jalapeno aioli and sliced grapes. Also had cornbread little muffins with a nice little peach jam. Broccoli and cheese deviled eggs. A fried green tomato salad and we also had smoked wings with a delicious aoili. Chicken and waffles with a sliced piece of okra on top. Dessert consisted of fresh fruit with cream and edible flowers, red velvet cookies and a mini pecan pie. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The food was very delicious and the service was pretty good. The ambiance was terrific and it’s right across the street from Fords Theater.
We made reservations on Open Table so our wait time was perfect. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions since it was our first time. My husband had chicken and waffles with a side of eggs and grits. His complaint was the food was room temperature and not hot. I enjoy shrimp and grits with a side of bacon and a biscuit. The portion size could have been a bit larger (like Founding Farmers size); the biscuit was great and, of course the applewood bacon hit the spot. I enjoyed our visit and would visit again or perhaps try Movida down on the waterfront.
Great service for Sunday Brunch. Innovative take on traditional Southern food. Wonderful space.
Great experience! Food was great and our server was fantastic. Planning on going back next time I’m in the city.
Food was tasty and the service was exceptional! Imani was Great!
The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. The wait staff timed things beautifully so that we weren't waiting between courses, but didn't feel rushed. Despite having a lovely table set off to the end of the balcony, the waiter came by regularly with water and to check up on us. The space itself is airy, well lit and welcoming. The noise level was a little higher than I prefer, but still much better than most DC restaurants.
It was delicious! The best chicken and waffles I have had
I ate at the National Harbor location a few years back and left feeling a bit underwhelmed. But after eating at the DC location I was blown away by the food, service and ambiance. Everything was absolutely perfect. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.
Second visit here and would come back again. More likely at the bar, as the food is good but portions were small. Drinks were great.
Great ribs and dirty chicken. Large portions. Excellent service. Will return.
Food was outstanding!
Nice take on Southern cuisine, with a hot and spicy kick.
I was meeting my old boss for lunch and he had never been to the restaurant. I had been for Sunday brunch, but never for just a casual lunch. I loved every bite. I'll be back again for sure.
Every bite of our meal was delicious & the waitstaff was terrific—we were a big table with diverse requests/needs, which were all accommodated beautifully & they even brought out a special treat for our birthday girls, so thoughtful! Many thanks for a scrumptious meal!
I was not impressed with the food. It was okay, I may have to visit again and try other menu items. But, It was just simple food that was cooked over the top
I had a great experience at SUCCOTASH. The private booth spaces provided the perfect ambiance for conversation at the table. The staff was very helpful with explaining the offerings and making great suggestions. Will definitely dine here again in the future.
The food was amazing, service was friendly, and we could hear one another talk. I’d go back.
