Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

Everything was simply wonderful! The food, service, and atmosphere. All four of us really enjoyed our afternoon.
We loved our dinner at Succotash!
For starters we had the cornbread muffins, smoky chicken wings and a couple deviled eggs. We would recommend all three!
We were a group of 6 and everyone ordered something different as their entree. The chicken and waffles were a hit with everyone, the short rib was super tender, the pork ribs fell off their bone and had an awesome smoky flavor, the shrimp and grits were delicious, the steak salad was accompanied by awesome mashed potatoes and the catfish was nice and crispy and had the perfect spicy aioli on top! We also passed around a side of the bacon Mac and cheese which was very well done and not too heavy at all.
For dessert, we had trouble choosing so we ordered the bananas foster milkshake, the ganache “waffle” and the mint julep ice cream. All three were thoroughly enjoyed but I’ve gotta say that mint julep ice cream has ruined all other mint ice cream for me it was that good.
Only one cocktail at the table and it was the Hey Peaches- super fun and yummy!
Our server was prompt, friendly and had great recommendations! The food also came out in a timely fashion.
Thank you Succotash for an awesome evening! We will be recommending your restaurant to our friends and family!
Amazing service. Great people. Food was awesome.
We came at 6:15 on a Thursday. 4 adults and a toddler. I always kind of feel bad bringing a 2 year old to a real restaurant. But the staff was great and super sweet to us. Our daughter got a kids sized chicken and waffles. It was great. Delicious waffles and the chicken was pretty darn good too. I had the shrimp and grits which was great. My wife had the ribs and they were the best thing at our table. Cocktails were a little pricey, but welcome to DC, and they were well made. Pretty good whiskey selection.
Can’t say enough about the service. Really a fantastic experience. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great evening!
Was a bit apprehensive at first going to a swankier restaurant with a baby and a stroller. That was right before Colin, who happened to be our server, opened the door for us as we headed up the stairs to welcome us in. Colin went above and beyond to give us a very personable dining experience, and we thoroughly appreciated the attentiveness he provided. Foodwise my husband got the chicken and waffles and I got the roasted salmon and drinkwise I got the milk punch and my husband had the old fashion. Everything was delicious and on point. The host that day was also very sweet. My most memorable dining experiences have been a combination of wonderful service, delicious food, and great drinks which summed up our time at Succotash. We hope to be back hopefully in the near future!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The cocktails were excellent as well. It was rather noisy, but that was our only very minor complaint.
Felt very rushed
Location does not feel as clean and friendly as when it opened.
All the servers were great. Felt right at home. FYI. A word count requirement is dumb and dismisses the experience
Wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed...even “forgot” to fix our wobbly table after we specifically asked for this repair. I’ve had much better service at the National Harbor location.
Hit the spot after a long day of travel. Will be back for sure.
We loved everything about this place! The restaurant itself is beautiful and the food was amazing!
Love it every time!!!! Celebrated a birthday and they did an excellent job!
Great food!! Ambiance is wonderful. Me and my wife really enjoyed our Anniversary!
Yeah, not so bad to not recommend. Our first visit...the location is great and the decor/atmosphere was good. A bit disappointed to be seated at 2-person table in what seemed to be just a middle aisle between two rows of larger tables. I understand the need to have the aisle when packed, but it wasn't and therefore, didn't understand why we were seated there only to see other couples seated after us at large tables. This 2-person cross-tables are very intimate and it was loud, so it made it uncomfortable for conversation, unless you want to share your conversation with everyone. Sure...I could have asked for a table, but I wasn't sure of the occupancy rate and so forth until after being seated.
The drinks were good...enjoyed my Front Porch. My husband had the etoufee and said the rice was pretty hard and the size of the dish was rather small. I had the dirty chicken. While the chicken was nice and tender, I found it more like drenched chicken...the sauce was heavy and therefore, overwhelming. I had and enjoyed the asparagus and my husband enjoyed his collard greens/kimchi. We will probably be back, but not in a hurry.
The portions and presentation were good. The prices high but not that high and the restaurant itself was nice. The big problem was that a soy sauce was used on the short rib that really didn’t work. Had they stuck to a standard BBQ sauce, it would have been a great dish.
Exceptional brunch. We had 'Taste the South' and split the watermelon and peanut salad as an add on. Also the Belle's punch. Great! Highly recommended.
Succotash is delicious and I love the feel of the restaurant. Service was awesome and I will definitely be back soon.
We loved the room, thought the starters and salads were really good. The menu favors meat and fish eaters. The music seemed geared to Happy Hour crowd in bar and not dinner with friends. We will go back and eat and drink at the bar.
I don’t think I’ll get the chicken and dumpling (yes dumpling instead of dumplings), the flavor of the chicken was very bland and just didn’t meet my expectations when every other dish is amazing.
My wife and I had a wonderful date night. The service was attentive and personable, and the food was delicious.
Had Mother’s Day dinner with my wife and mother. Chose this restaurant because they offered southern inspired dishes. Service was excellent and attentive. Atmosphere was a bit noisy despite the fact that we were seated in a side booth, however, we were still able to converse at a reasonable level. Food was good but pricey. Portions were quite large. I had chicken and waffles. My chicken was a bit over cooked (not an excuse) but I assume that this was in part due to the fact that the restaurant was very busy. My mom and wife were very pleased with their entrees and I highly recommend the goat cheese and beet salad appetizer. If I have one complaint it is that they do not offer valet parking (at least on weekends). Street parking in the area is very difficult to find and many of the nearby parking lots are closed on weekends making this a difficult restaurant for drivers or the disabled. But overall my family and I had a great time so I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
It’s a nice looking establishment, but the hectic nature of Mother’s Day should have been better prepared for. Service was spotty, I didn’t see it being any busier than a normal Friday or Saturday evening service. The food was good but certain items seemed a bit overpriced. Chicken and waffles were good, but the waffles were as thin as an Eggo Walffle, and it wasn’t enough with three pieces of chicken. Hush puppies were bland and other items ordered were fine. Appropriate sized Sides should either be part of your entree or the cost for them should be lower.
Mother’s Day brunch was great - food and service was wonderful. The music was a bit loud and the restaurant was cold (we were seated upstairs). Otherwise, a lovely experience.
We love this place! Service wasn’t as good as before, but the Manager made up for that with extra attention and free dessert. As it was Mother’s day I think our waiter was overwhelmed. That said the food and ambiance can’t be beat!
We came for Mother's Day brunch. For starters, we had cinnamon buns, smoky wings and beets and goat cheese salad. The buns were freshly made with the right amount of cinnamon and icing; not too sweet- just right! The smoky wings were delicious, light crisp outside and moist tasty inside. We love the goat cheese and beets salad too!
We all (3 of us) had the chicken and waffles entree. The chicken is very crispy and excellently seasoned. 2 small pieces of waffles are served with the chicken and get lost with the 3 pieces of dark meat chicken. I usually don't order chicken & waffles because the white meat breast is usually served. The dark meat chicken served was outstanding for my taste!
Great place for brunch, service is excellent!
Colin was our waiter and couldn’t have been nicer!!
Beautiful venue for a Sunday brunch. Sun drenched and delicious!
Pictures were better. I was not blown away. There was construction in front of the restaurant which caused me drive past the entrance. I was expecting a buffet style brunch.
Everything was outstanding! The quality of the food was fantastic. Our server, Colin, was attentive and terrific. We could not have asked for a better experience!!
Mother’s Day was great!
Ordered chicken and waffles, a bit on the light side compared to their other brunch options that I had in the past. It was good, I just did not leave full.
We went for a Mother’s Day brunch. All of the food was fantastic! We had the smoked wings, hush puppies, Mac and cheese, steak and mashed potatoes, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and the tofu bowl. Everything was excellent!
Food was good but service is below average. Really recommend investing in uplifting the service element , otherwise the experience suffers despite the great food.
Our second visit; we live in Norfolk. Great place and great food. Both times our servers have been outstanding; this time we had Kendra who treated us to an appetizer and a glass of champagne. It was our anniversary and several of the staff wished us a happy evening.
One of the most succulent and delicious selection of culinary items that I have had in a while. The servers are courteous and knowledgeable of menu content. The facility is well lit and the architecture is just as enjoyable to the eyes as the food is to the taste buds. Portion sizes and prices are definitely reasonable and quite honestly, I would be willing to pay more considering the quality of the food. I will make it a point to visit every time I am in Washington D.C. !
Very noisy when restaurant is full.
Very tasty Fried Catfish.
Great food, service and overall ambiance. Has turned into a new favorite.
This place was amazing. The decor was beautiful. It was a bit expensive. I had the chicken and waffles and milk punch and it was $48+ tax and gratuity. The chicken was cooked a little to long for me personally but it had a good flavor. Overall it was good and I would probably go back during lunch and not have a drink. 😃
We've been here 3 times. The food menu is interesting and the dishes well prepared. For drinks, there are bourbons here that we haven't seen anywhere else. The service is efficient and pleasant-- always available without being intrusive. Well be back. For sure.
The server paid little attention to our table. Service was slow, which was surprising given it was the lunch hour, and they should be accustomed to having professionals there for lunch that can’t have leisurely lunches. The knife in my silverware set had food particles on it, and finally, the chicken in my fried chicken sandwich was dry.
