Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

The food was excellent, the drinks were delicious and the space is quite cozy and lovely. We went for brunch and I would definitely suggest going there again!
Came here for Sunday brunch and everything was delightful. My wife and I got the brunch sampler and everything was good especially the fried green tomatoes salad, chicken and waffles and the biscuits and gravy.
The staff was incredible and welcoming from the moment we walked in the door! Our party of 6 did the Taste of the South and everything was amazing. Highlights were the fried green tomato salad, chicken and waffles, and ribs. We also enjoyed the fried green beans, succotash and Hummingbird cake in addition to the tasting menu and they were well worth the add on. Great value for how much food you get! Also don't skip the Bourbon cocktails - every Bourbon drink we tried was phenomenal. We will absolutely be coming back!
Amazing food and drinks! Wonderful service and atmosphere! Favorite restaurant so far in DC! Definitely a must try!
Wow, what an amazing place!
We came for dinner before a show at Ford Theatre and were not disappointed. We started with happy hour at the bar. The bartenders were very attentive and know their products. We started with a couple snacks, devil eggs and cornbread- Delicious! The bourbon menu is top notch, and the signature cocktails well done.
Then we sat down for dinner. Every entree was delicious. From the Salmon to Rice bowl to Halibut to shrimp and grits, we all left satisfied. There is not a bad item. We went for seafood entrees this visit, but look forward to our next visit to try the rest of the menu.
The ambience is so interesting. The venue is an old bank that has been renovated. It has great character.
Great food in a fabulous environment! Asked for a plate of fried green tomatoes. Almost as good as my dad's was a quote from a colleague!
This is a wonderful place to meet friends for drinks after work or a nice meal. The service was impeccable and the food delightful. It has a welcoming, fun vibe, a nice bar, and great tables. We'll be dining there again!
The food was outstanding! Loved my catfish. Skip the deviled eggs though, boring.
An elegant space and gracious service with a lively vibe. Very nice bar and a classic Southern menu touched with Korean seasonings. Recommend the fried green tomato salad, fried green beans and catfish. The collard greens with kimchi is a different cut; more collard than kimchi, you can be your own judge.
This was my 4th time at Succotash. I chose this restaurant because I was hosting a friend from out of town who likes Southern food, plus she's not very adventurous in her food taste.
Succotash's location, ambiance and food are great. The restaurant is conveniently located to Capitol One Arena and for after work get togethers. It's a beautiful building, with comfortable banquettes. And, the food is excellent. I especially enjoy the catfish and berry jam.
My problem is with the service. The servers are friendly, but not very attentive nor knowledgable about the food. Every time I've eaten at Succotash, there have been long lapses in the service, incorrect or no responses to questions, and a lack of attentiveness. If the management could train the servers better, this place would be excellent all around.
Because I have to eat gluten free, I was very excited to see all the selections on the menu that were marked as GF. So I was extremely disappointed to learn that the preparations for many items was not gluten free and therefore not available to me. I will not likely return because the options were very limited for me.
Nice brunch menu.o only a few vegetarian options. The Delta rice bowl was a fun mix or smoked tofu, vegetables and e chicken and waffles was well done.
This was our second time back, my boyfriend chose your restaurant for his birthday dinner and we had a lovely time. Will was a great server; attentive, knowledgeable, made good recommendations, and had a great personality. The only thing we noticed that was different was that the chocolate ganache waffle was almost room temperature as opposed to the refreshing chilliness that it was last time. Still, we had a great experience and we're definitely adding your restaurant to our faves list.
Typically The food is good but I tried something new—salmon. It WAS HORRIBLE. The waiter didn’t attend to us too much but anyways I’ve had better experiences.
Excellent, first time here and was not disappointed!! I’d recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience and food. Loved it!
I was looking for a restaurant that would please each person in our group of six and the menu at Succotash seemed to be the right fit. However, we were not prepared for the most delicious food that we all received and the wonderful service! Being the only vegan in the group and the one who makes the reservations, I scanned the menu figuring I could always find something and putting the priority on our friends but I think my rice bowl was the most tasty dish of all! Great selection of food and drink, wonderful service and a great vibe. Succotash was one of our top restaurants we ate at during our weekend in DC. Thank you!
We really Enjoyed the peach sangria and will probably go back.
Shrimp and grits were amazing. Recommend the kimchi collared greens.
The building is gorgeous and the food was great. The service was outstanding and very prompt. There were interesting cocktails, and my whiskey sour was unique and tasty, with a swirl of egg white on top like whipped cream. I had the shrimp and grits, which was very good, especially the cheesy grits, but a little bland other than that. The deviled egg snack also was bland. This is a bit surprising for a place that offers southern food with a Korean twist - both pretty spicy cuisines. It's a noisy place with loud music downstairs, especially next to the bar where we were originally seated, but the hostess was nice enough to let us sit upstairs where we could talk easily.
Great place to eat. The food was excellent and the restaurant building was stunning. They told us it was once a bank. It's a beautiful place. Service was also very good. Really enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
Innovative fusion takes on staples of Southern cuisine. I have never had better catfish in my life! Friendly and efficient service.
outstanding dinner. There were so many good choices and they took care of us well. The food was well priced and beautiful. The short rib was amazingly tender and huge.
All food is amazing here! And the servers are very friendly.
This was my second visit to Succotash and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, perfect portion size- not too big, not too small, and the ambiance makes for a really fun night out. We'll be back!
Food and service are amazing! only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is the lack of valet parking, which they used to have.
The service was great. The food was not special. But it was a nice of place. If you want an approachable take on southern food, it may be a good place to visit. But I feel like I could make better short ribs at home.
Service was slow despite a nearly empty restaurant. Food was just okay. Not impressed.
Maybe it was because we were there for brunch but our meal was just ok. On member of my table though did send her meal back due to blandness. I think dinner is a much better bet for quality of the meal.
Nice restaurant. The menu is good, but I have limited choices given some dietary restrictions. I would definitely go there again though.
Be prepared for heavy Southern-style food. My husband enjoyed it. Service was decent. Prices are your typical DC restaurant, bring your wallet.
So much fun!!
Succotash was a fantastic experience! The food was impeccable, and the decor (being in a former bank) was gorgeous. We ordered the chicken & waffles, hangover special, and hummingbird cake. I would definitely come back and recommend others to try it out!
The ambiance is amazing. The restaurant as a whole is little noisy since it’s a large, open space with high ceilings. This made it a little difficult to hear others at the table. The food was a little tough (I had the Dirty Chicken) and I thought the price was a little high in proportion to the size of the dish.
Possibly one of the best and most clever restaurants in the USA. Love this place every time I am in DC. Don’t miss it!
Unassuming from the outside, this restaurant is GRAND and impressive on the inside. Welcoming and attentive staff. Food was amazing. Best tasting (though probably least healthy) Cobb Salad of my life.
The food was terrible, especially for the price. I paid $42 for the ribeye and it was very grainy and oily. Mind you I ordered it medium which it was in fact cooked medium (nice and pink). I guess it wasn't a quality meat.
The fried oyster was great. My wife said she enjoyed the shrimp and grits. The setting is definitely gorgeous. I love that and our waitress was great (I forgot her name). It just isn't worth the $180 we spent (food, drinks, appetizer and tip)
This was a fabulous night out. Everything from the beginning to the end was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. She offered suggestions and timed everything just right from appetizers to desserts. All the food was magnificent and a great cocktail!
Absolutely. Jerry was an awesome server. Food was delicious.
