Service was stellar. The location at the montage is fabulous but be prepared to walk a bit from the hotel lobby outside. The ceviche, pork belly, & locally caught swordfish were delicious. The Lamb was okay- I would probably not order that again. The three types of butter served with the brioche, multigrain and seaweed rolls were treats. Overall, I enjoyed the attention paid to the detail of service, presentation, quality and the location.
It is a beautiful place with wonderful service! However, the food is too salty and not quite worth the price.
Thank you for making my husband’s evening so wonderful!!
New Years Eve Dinner was great but the beginning seemed a bit scrambled with staff not knowing the program of events or not explaining clearly. Also, when we booked with open table, there was no mention of a band, champagne toast nor dancing and there was an option not to have the wine pairing at a much lower rate, apparently it was not an option. We had a great time and food and service was impeccable, but was not very clear on events when booked.
Their Christmas Brunch was very expensive and a very limited selection of unremarkable choices.
We visited the studio for Christmas brunch and were distinctly underwhelmed by the experience. The selection of food was limited (nothing green other than a salad) and I expected alot more given my previous positive experience and the level of expense incurred. Rating C minus....
We have dined at the Studio for Christmas Eve dinner for approximately the last ten years.
We have always loved the ambiance on Christmas Eve and fortunately that still exists.
However, the service has certainly dropped a level or two and so has the food options.
In the past, the Studio has always offered a tasting menu (and more recently, a vegetarian tasting menu) as well as a la carte choices. This year, we found the Studio offered only a very limited tasting menu -- which also came with a substantially high bill. (My husband mentioned that this bill was almost as much as Meadowwood in Napa - which offers many more courses in its tasting menu. The food at the Studio is still quite good - but not quite as high-end / creative as in previous years.
Also, in the past, the Studio always has offered delicious bread rolls of several varieties -- and this was lacking as well. On top of that, the service just wasn't what it has been - from the sommelier to the waiting staff. We had to ask for rolls and they did not circulate back as in previous years to offer to refill our bread plates without us asking.
We have always loved this spot and look forward to going each year - but sadly, we will not be returning next year.
My only complaint is this year you could not order off the regular menu, and were limited to ordering off the Christmas Eve tasting menu only. My family has made Christmas Eve a yearly tradition, however this year we did not have the option of ordering some of our favorite dishes. 🙁
The food was out standing noise level was just right. All in all a great way to spend Saturday night.
I’ve dined here many times but the food was mediocre this time. The service was very good and an attentive hostess.
Valet a bit too pricey
Otherwise wonderful with beautiful ambience
The setting was gorgeous, but the food was not what we expected from a 5 star restaurant.....The clams in the risotto appetizer were chewy and the fish entree we had not very moist or special. We love the location of the Montage resort and the ambience,,,,but this meal was disappointing
Overrated! I couldn’t be more disappointed. Was there for a special date and this place is the worst Michelin restaurant I’ve been to. The lighting is awful, no ambience. Poor wine list. The caviar was good. Service was sub standard.
Spectacular setting with spectacular food. Pricey, but great things are worth paying for.
This place used to be amazing. Brought clients here for what should have been an outstanding meal only to be totally embarrassed. The food was a disaster. Risotto appetizer was inedible, overloaded with salt. Celerini "noodles" were served in gloppy Alfredo sauce with a truffle that tasted of starchy potato instead of truffle flavor. Steaks were un seasoned. Absolute and total disaster since the departure of Chef Craig Strong....Give this a hard pass.....
Anniversary celebration. The service and food was very good. $50 corkage fee is pretty steep, though.
Excellent service and food!
Food was overpriced which would not be a problem at a restaurant of this caliber, except that it was not exceptional and the portions were minuscule. Staff tried to up-sell everything in an awkward manner - a little too pushy. When someone is paying $500 for a four-person meal, it should be enough to refrain from trying to make them pay an extra $100 for truffles on the risotto, and being passive aggressive almost to the point of condescension when it is refused. The last time we dined here was a little over a year ago and I remember the quality being much higher and the staff being less pushy. Maybe it was because the restaurant was largely vacant (odd for a weekend night) that they needed to meet a quota? The location is unparalleled anywhere along the coast from San Diego to Malibu in my opinion, but the value is just not there anymore. To be clear, the food is high quality and the location is gorgeous, but the staff’s focus on up-selling was comically obvious and uncomfortable, and the portion sizes were regrettably insufficient.
Beautiful place with regular food.
After multiple visits to Studio, it remains a special experience. Truly the food is perfection, the servers are outstanding, professional, unobtrusive. Just right. This visit, however, was a little disappointing, from a logistics standpoint. Made a rez on Open Table for Thanksgiving dinner, party of 3. I also followed up with a call direct to Montage dining reservations to ask some questions and make a few requests; also received a confirmation call about a week prior from Montage and reiterated the requests. What was never explained to me was...the restaurant doors did not open until 6 pm that day. Our reservation was at 6 pm. Our intent had always been to arrive for sunset cocktails and enjoy the views, about an hour prior. But guess what? Doors locked. Outdoor poolside restaurant closed. Yes, lobby bar was an option, but it was VERY crowded with little kids running around...not the experience we wanted. Ran into a very accommodating employee, Croix, who managed to summon up some cocktails for us and bring them down to the fire pit by the ocean. We sat outdoors, in the cold, as did about 30 other reservation holders, for a good hour (we were the only lucky ones who had 1 drink each...) before we were let in for our reservation. It felt chaotic- having all these well heeled, well dressed patrons standing around, looking inside the restaurant, seeing the staff buzzing around yet the doors remained locked, until 6. Then at 6, we waited in a queue to be seated...felt like being on a cruise ship. Next, we were shown to our table, in possibly the worst location in the whole place (!!!) near the hallway to the kitchen... We rejected that table, and got what we wanted. In the 2 person to person conversations I had with Montage I explained we were returning customers, and we’d like a nice table, please. In the end though, when you’re spending about $1000 for cocktails, wine, and dinner for 3, everything should have been impeccable. It was not.
Perfect! Thank you for making it wonderful.
The food and the service were exceptional. It felt like we were the only ones there and the meal was prepared just for us. You barely notice the others guests. Chef Ben came out to speak with us after we were finished eating so we could express our delight over the meal and just to share casual conversation. I know we’ll keep hearing ever bigger and better things from this talented chef. It was a perfect experience from start to finish.
The service was very good, but the hostesses made my elderly mother sit and wait in the bar for 5 minutes or so, to try to get us to buy a drink? Even though we showed up for our 7:15pm at 7:15pm exactly. It felt unnecessary as the restaurant was very quiet.
We are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and everyone from the hostess to the wait staff were wonderful. At the end of our meal we were given a tour of this amazing kitchen ending our evening with a “big thank you” to the head chief. The meal and evening could not have been better. Thank you All at The Studio!
We were very much looking forward to a nice dinner out for my husband's birthday. We know the pricing so we weren't surprised about that but the food quality was less than expected for a restaurant of this caliber. The wine pairings were marginal...and the bordeaux was undrinkable (bitter...no body). The staff was overall very attentive. Our only complaint was when we asked for the sommelier to come to the table when we discovered the poor quality of the bordeaux it wan't until my husband was done with that tasting that he came back. He did offer a different wine at that time though...that was exceptional. My risotto was delicious but everything else was just ok...or not great.
Chef Ben and his team are creative, talented, professional and charming in the way they deliver a culinary experience beyond description. If you are in the Laguna Beach area and want a dining experience beyond compare, I highly recommend a visit to The Studio. They are simply amazing!!
one of our favorite spots, one of the last truly fine dinning restaurants
Anniversary dinner was fantastic just like always
The best meal we have had in Orange County in years. The staff could not of been more accommodating. Service and food we're excellent!!!! Can't wait to get back there.
Our dinner was above and beyond..... had both chef tasting paired with a Dauo bottle..... the best
Always the best.
Outstanding in every way possible, service food, cocktails. The view was spectacular. We celebrated our 30th anniversary. Would highly recommend.
This was only the 2nd time I've been to this restaurant. The first time was just super. (2 years ago) This last visit was just darn right disappointing. The waiter had a bit of an attitude to start but the food in general was average at best and the portions were EXTREMELY small. 3 of us had fish and the serving size could not have been more than 3 oz. And the price tag was over $60 per plate!
Great view but not worth the money.
Amazing memorable special occasion dinner. We selected the chef's 6 course planned menu and delightfully dined 3 hours, a rare and beautiful experience.
We went to Studio for a birthday celebration. The service was amazing. The food was creative, artistic and delectable. We enjoyed a good interaction with our sommelier. I would highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant overlooking the coast of Laguna Beach. Great food & ambiance. Very expensive but well worth it!
Can not beat the atmosphere but the food was very much like a catered tasting. Bland, unseasoned, and left a great deal to be desired. In terms of fine dining, they are in desperate need of a new executive chef.
Impeccable on all counts! Service, menu ,& the House Martini5*
We got the perfect table outside to enjoy the good Laguna weather and a beautiful sunset. The food was fantastic. Gary the somm is a real talent. All around A+ experience. It's great that they always remember your name, the whole staff down to the valet.
