   Always have loved Stroud's pan fried chicken and gizzards. Their sides are delicious as well. The gravy is great on the mashed potatoes and for dipping the gizzards in. The food is very consistent and delicious. They have an option now to order individualized meals versus family style, you get smaller portions of the sides, but the cost is less as well. We opted for the family style, it costs more, but you get larger portions, and the food is so good, we want to take the leftovers home. The only downside is that they are now rationing the gravy for some reason. We had used most of the gravy provided with our meal, and we asked for more gravy to go with our leftovers (probably half the meal of 3). The waitress said she was told to cut back on giving extra gravy, so the to-go gravy container was only about half full. It wasn't enough to go with the leftovers, and I ended up eating most of the leftover mashed potatoes without gravy. In hindsight, I should have offered to buy more gravy. I can't believe that rationing gravy is really going to increase their bottom line that much.

   When I made the reservation on line there was a question about occasion which was our 44th anniversary. That's as far as that went. Not a mention from anyone. We got there at scheduled time. Waitress took our order. Soup and salad arrived soon. It took 45 minutes to get food. During our wait Other people arrived, got their order, Ate and then left. This was a special Occasion.    I heard from many people that Strouds had the best fried chicken in town. With all due respect to those folks, they were wrong. With what we spent, I'd rather go to KFC and order a feast of superior fried goodness or spend a fraction of the cost for said goodness. Or, make a 200+ mile roundtrip Cannonball Run to Pittsburg, Kansas, to Chicken Mary's for the best fried chicken I've ever had--they do it right. In a nutshell, Strouds pan-fried chicken had no flavor and I wish I could regurgitate the food and get a redo on my lunch. The servers and cooks executed well; the problem lies with the corporate (KC Hopps) vision of a fried chicken place. My family ordered the All Dark Entrée ($17.95) that had two legs and two thighs; the Two Piece Saturday Special ($12.95) that had one breast and one leg; both entrees came with a house salad or homemade chicken noodle soup, green beans, and a choice of potatoes (mashed, baked, or fries)--we got the mashed and fries; and two orders of the kids chicken fingers ($6.95). As you can see in the pictures, the batter had little-to-no discernable herbs nor spices, which rendered the their signature dishes as a bland disappointment. The soup and salad were fine, neither good nor bad. We each took a bite of the green beans and realized they were from a can--I can still taste the can's protective lining from those soggy, mushy, soylent green things. The mashed potatoes were also fine, neither good nor bad. However the fries were soggy and unseasoned. How does a fried chicken place mess up French fries?! All you have to do is fry potatoes to a crisp, then add salt. The chicken fingers were cooked well and had more flavor than the star attractions, so order those so you have a better chance of enjoying your meal and save some money. Each entrée is finished off with a cinnamon roll and to my surprise, it's more of a cinnamon coffee cake... With no icing! The combination of cinnamon and icing is what makes it a perfect dessert.

   We discovered recently that a friend had never been to Stroud's, so we had to remedy that immediately. We ordered chicken not-wings (like nuggets/bites tossed in buffalo sauce), chicken fingers, an all dark meal, chicken fried steak, and broiled pork chops, and EVERYTHING was delicious. Now, I do feel like I should mention the cinnamon rolls because it came up that they are not, in fact, cinnamon rolls. This is true. They are more like a cinnamon sugar encrusted dinner roll. And they are DELICIOUS but they are not cinnamon rolls. Once we agreed on that point, we could all move on to unanimously decide that they were probably the best part of the meal and we wanted another basket of them to go.

   I been to strouds in the past, but my most recent visit was just fair. Chichen was dry and not moist inside at all. However, the cocktail I had was great.

   The interior was delapidated. We all sat in a both where every seat was like being in a hole. The food made up for it. I would recommend ordering one more piece than you think you want, because it’s that good. I would go back in a heartbeat, just not to this location.

   I was surprised that they were not prepared for the number of guests that were there. They ran out of glasses and cinnamon rolls, but had more made by the end of our meal.

    Not sure how to rate this, not my best experience at this restaurant. We were seated right by the dirty dish station, not very appetizing. Took a long while to get our order in, water glasses were plunked down on the table with no comment from waitress, rather curt when she took our order. Later she warmed up and became much more pleasant, she stated that they had been swamped earlier in the day (Mother's Day), which I understood, but.....we had to tolerate the poor attitude when we first got there. This restaurant is getting older and starting to show its age, does not look clean anymore. Food was good, service ended up okay, but not too sure I will go back. Sad to me as I have always enjoyed Stroud's.
