About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Hot spot
Enjoy unapologetically authentic Thai food in the East End. All food is made from scratch by native Thai chef and James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: Texas Benchawan Jabthong Painter.

Chef Benchawan and her husband—who also spend time in their Bangkok home each year—have painstakingly built out a restaurant that would fit into Bangkok’s hip Thong Lor neighborhood, but they have located it in Houston. Expect trendy Thai vibes, music, strong cocktails and an adventurous wine list to accompany Chef Benchawan’s acclaimed dishes.

When booking your reservation, all children—regardless of age—must be included in the head count. The largest party Street to Kitchen can accommodate is 6 people. If more than 6, you can arrange a private Thai tasting menu, including a minimum spend. Please contact us via email at eatthai@streettokitchen.org.

Street to Kitchen has substantially abbreviated its lunch menu since the last time I visited. I was so looking forward to enjoying another bowl of Tom Kha Gai, but learned that it is no longer on the lunch menu. In fact, it is only on the dinner menu from time to time when the chef feels like preparing it. Moreover, Instead of the variety of items available for lunch during my last visit, this time there was a shortened list of dishes that were described as the “chef’s preferences.” Very few of the chef’s preferences appealed to me, in contrast to my last visit when I had trouble selecting from the many dishes that tempted me. I ended up ordering the chicken and cashew entree, which was fine, but certainly not what I would have preferred. Notably, the restaurant was almost empty, another sharp contrast from my last visit. Between the menu change and the restaurant’s obscure location, I’m unlikely to return.

Food was amazing. Not too spicy for the Thai liver and full of flavor. We left with warm full bellies. Don’t miss out on the Yum Kai Dao. The movie posters are very cool.

Great food, the staff was presumptuous at best. The gentleman running food and bussing the table was very nice. They insisted on telling us how the meal should be handled so we were not allowed to order an appetizer while we looked over the drink menu. Seated under an air vent asked to move but told the other tables were reserved. We were 1 of 2 tables seated. When we left they were less than half full. Went elsewhere for dessert did not feel very welcomed.

The loud music with heavy bass is obnoxious. Food’s great, awesome spice level, well-explained by the staff.

Outstanding service, great knowledge of the menu. Our waitress was very helpful in recommending dishes for first timers there. The ambiance is lively and food is spicy. The drinks are unique and well made. 5/5 stars.

Food was good, service was good overall. A little bit slow initially, but after that no issues. Very spicy, true to what the waiter said!
