I made reservations without knowledge that the Straits located in CityCenter (Houston) was closing. My friends and I weren't left with many options to select from from dinner. Dinner was still tasteful but the energy and overall vibe of the restaurant that we were used to is gone.
The restaurant and food were great!!!....but I specifically requested a private room for my birthday party, and they gave it away. Unfortunately they didn't do anything to take care of the situation.
Having lived in South East Asia for a number of years, I was excited at the prospect of eating at Straits. First of all, it is located at a very nice location at Houston CityCentre, close to many officers and shopping venues, overlooking a nice courtyard where kids can frolic and play. Nicely decorated, it had good ambiance and great views.
Unfortunately the food didn't necessarily meet the mark; missing from the menu were some staples like char kway teow, fried rice (they had emperor fried rice but it was more chinese than SE Asian), and only had 1 curry option if I recall. It missed the culture, flavor and options that were so vibrant of the community Straits tried to represent.
I'll certainly try Straits again, but don't hold out much hope - for those wanting a true Indonesian/Singaporean/Malaysian experience, try out Malay Malay in League City.
Very very bad service!!!! At lot of customers complaining about that poor service!!! If someone doesn't take seriously that restaurant, little bye little will go down!!! Never ever again I will go there..
Lovely patio but green band were noisy so moved inside, oh an Texas hot.
Food delicious, service very attentive, highly recommend
Overall friendly, sophisticated, relaxed dining. Food selection OK, basically one page entrée selections. We lost our waitress for about 45 minutes, so we flagged other wait staff for drink re-fills. Large crowd for 4th of July weekend, restaurant was a nice reprieve from outside festivities. If I planned a City center outing, I would recommend Straits for dinner.
Fantastic food and a great location. The service was very friendly as well.
Food was delicious. We had the roti prata bread appetizer, the veggie pad thai, the kung pao calamari, schezuan green beans and wok seared brussel sprouts - all very good. The weather was nice, so we sat outside - it's right on the City Centre green, so lots of people walking by and kids playing on the green. The patio was full, but there were plenty of open tables inside on Saturday evening - the bar turns into a dance club at 10:30 on Saturdays, so if you are there late, I would avoid getting a table near the front, but we couldn't hear it on the patio.
Awesome as always
Dinner pick for my daughter's 14th Birthday dinner. Great food, great ambience. Not a place for small kids unless it's early and you sit in one of the cabana's outside.
