   We went for their brunch menu…and they “were out of everything”. No wonder why the restaurant was empty.

   Daniella - our server was incredibly helpful and kind! The food was insane and the pizza wasn’t even my favorite thing from the menu. Get the gnocchi and the eggplant for sure. The tiramisu was also delicious. Definitely make a reservation - the place was packed on a Friday night.

   The food was delicious. However, I asked for three different drinks listed in the menu and they didn’t have it. One of them was ginger ale.

   TLDR: we left within 15mins of being seated wait staff was slow, inattentive, and couldn’t even take our order correctly so we left before the experience could get any worse (we knew that if we waited for our food, the order would defintely have been incorrect— and we also had someone with a food allergy so couldn’t take that chance). Had a reservation for brunch @12:30 for 4 people. Upon arrival, we asked to be seated outside because it was a nice day. The “patio” looked grimey and many of the tables were broken. The restaurant itself was pretty empty though (there was only one occupied table inside). The main issue was the wait staff. It took forever for the guy to bring water and then ultimately for the woman who sat us to take our order (I had to try to get their attention through the window where I saw them chatting with one another). The woman who took our order didn’t have a note pad or anything to write our order down and continuously messed up our order when she repeated it back to us. We knew then that it was going to be a terrible experience. She left to supposedly put our order in (although with what accuracy, I don’t know), then after a while she came back again with a device to enter in the rest of our orders (she claimed she had gotten the first two entered but needed the last 2 repeated… for the 4th time). At that point, however, we had already called another restaurant at Union Market and was able to grab a brunch reservation there. I don’t think I can remember a time that I just blatantly left a restaurant before being served, but if we had stayed we knew the rest of the experience would have been terrible.

   The service and ambience were great. But the food left much to be desired both in quality and price. We had the caprese salad and a pizza and tap water for a total of $44. For the caprese salad, the description said it came with arugula … like 6-8 single leaves of arugula does not make a salad in my mind. The bed of pesto that the mozzarella sat on had large chunks of garlic as the main ingredient so it did not really look or feel or taste like pesto but more like predominantly garlic with a few other ingredients. The pizza crust was good but the toppings were very few (for mushrooms we counted a total of six mini itty bitty ones). I would not recommend eating here.

   A far cry from their Michelin quality days. Stellina's food and service quality may have reached Michelin star level in 2020 and 2021, as their posted plaques attest, but their current level is no where close. We last ate there in 2022 and the food and service were still excellent then, which is why we finally made it back last Friday. Unfortunately, our server, while pleasant, was either inexperienced, under-trained, or both. Our drink order came way too slow--about the same time as our entrees. Our arancini appetizer came AFTER our entrees arrived. And the food was ok at best--the arancini was good--far exceeding the quality of entrees. Overall, a disappointing experience.

   I have had pizza for take out before and enjoyed. Last Friday was my first time dining in the restaurant, during restaurant week. It was really poorly executed - we chose from the restaurant week menu a total of 4 dishes, from appetizer to pizza. We then had all four dishes, full meal sized dishes, served to us at once. The owner or manager came over to remove our napkin holder as if the problem was that our table wasn’t big enough and not that there was an insane amount of food served at once. I am used to crazy things happening at DC restaurants, but this one took the cake. I’m still p.o.’d 5 days later.
