We have been here a couple times before and it was a lot better. Now, even though the service was still very good, the place smelled like wet cloth and the food wasn’t amazing. They have taken a few thing off the menu that were the things we liked the most and they were out of a few other things also from the menu. From the current menu, the Ramen was excellent, and the shrimp dumplings as well. The vegetarian roll was algo good but a bit greasy.
Good atmosphere. Not a good choice for me I am a vegetarian that does not eat gluten. So I ordered the 2 items that would accommodate. My husband loved all the items he had. He especially love the bao "tacos"
Music was great. Dumplings and wontons were amazing. Won ton soup was yummy.. chili wontons were our favorite.
I really enjoyed the food, and that’s the most important part! The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was completely full, so it was understandable. I would recommend a reservation for weekend evenings because all the tables were taken while we were there.
The braised pork belly was yummy, will be returning for this dish. We also ordered the chicken popcorn, it was an appetizer but came with so much chicken! Soup dumplings were very good and the steamed pork buns were yummy. Very small and cute restaurant, food served fresh cooked to order!
We arrived on time and discovered that the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. This was after multiple emails reminding me of our reservation.
OPENTABLE NEEDS TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER!!
Food is great! But service is not so professional. No water for us at all. Flour is not stored in proper location. Very disappointed for such good reputation Chinese restaurant.
There was only one waitress seating and serving food for the whole entire restaurant. I kinda felt bad for her. Seeing how the situation was, I wasn't surprised about the wait time to get a seat and my food ordered.
Restaurant closed at time of reservation. No explanation given.
Bad service. Rude staff
You guys, the food here is amazing. IF you get it. We had made a reservation, when we arrived we were told that it would be about a 20 minute wait. The restaurant was really cold and they said their heat lamps were not working for outside. We ended up sitting at the bar where you sit between big bags of flour and the food freezer (storage issue). We had ordered a couple dumplings, wontons, and DAN DAN noodles and only received the dan dan noodles after waiting for an hour. We ended up canceling our dumpling orders and got our wontons to go. I feel like this place has great potential but they need to have more staff. There was three servers who were hosting, bartending, running food, taking orders, and busing. They all had theirs hands full in which we are aware that in situations such as that, mistakes can happen. The food was good and we might come back but we are all in all rather disappointed.
We booked online and arrived to find the restaurant closed, with no explanation. Wednesday evening at 5:30. Open hours according to their website and Open Table. I have since called and they do not answer. This review is probably moot.
We got to the restaurant and it was closed. Apparently the open/close dates/hours are not updated on OpenTable so after booking the reservations 3 weeks in advance and getting a confirmation text the day before, we arrived to a closed restaurant and phone number listed wasn’t taking any messages. Very frustrating and was looking forward to dining there. On the upside, Tajima (next door) had openings and the ramen there was very delicious!
Parking was a challenge but food was really good. Limited seating on the inside I would recommend a reservation.
We showed up and the place was closed. No contact that they wouldn’t be open.
We went for Thanksgiving and the food was delicious, the service very good. We shared 4 or 5 appetizers and cocktails and ended up ordering our entrees to take home!
Definitely will be coming back!!
Food on menu not as listed: sautéed seasonal vegetables was only bokchoy
Wine selection terrible
No brown rice
I have NEVER had better dumplings, the soup ones and rainbow. All of them! The service is impeccable! Everything was amazing!
Great place to get bao chicken and dumplings!! This Is your place to get taiwanese style food and great beverages !!!
The place is casual dining. The food was good and the service was great. Try their Piggy Bao and their signature cocktails were good according to my daughters. My son enjoyed his chow fun. Outdoor dining is good but it does face the street. There is enough to cover the view of the street. Only set back is parking.
The menu is somewhat limited and the ingredients in the dishes not really included. It probably takes a visit or two to figure out what to order. I'm a fish person so wasn't great for me. My son loves dumplings so it worked for him.
Great place, no wait when I came in. And very good happy hour deals.
A very nice little place competing for business in the crowded Kearny Mesa restaurant area, and they've come up with a very unique way of attracting business. The name alone makes you want to visit, but when you do, you will not be disappointed. The food is delicious. All of it. We had the Bao trio appetizer and the Rainbow dumplings. All of it was excellent. For the main course, my wife had the ramen, and I had the bulgogi bowl - again excellent choices. The ramen was unique but also traditional with a good familiar flavor, but the broth was creamy and the pork belly was quite succulent. The bulgogi was excellent with a very nice mild flavor (and many are just way too sweet). Service was excellent.
Went in the early evening for dinner with my siblings. The staff was attentive and courteous. I eat a vegetarian diet and they were able to inform me of the vegetarian items available. I had the curry with rice and a scallion pancake. My brother had the beef chow mein and my sister had the ramen. They both smelled amazing. My brother finished his plate, and ours. They also had a variety of non-alcoholic beverages available and a nice happy hour menu.
Went here for my birthday with 10 co-workers for lunch. Honestly thought it would take forever to get food out for such a large party, but food started coming out within 10 minutes after being seated. The food was really good! The patio was nice. The service was great. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family
The dumplings and Bao are all excellent. Everything tastes freshly made and is delicious! I’m definitely coming back.
Food & service was awesome! Nice hip touches throughout. Parking is another story. Pack your patience or prepare to walk.
Casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere. Entrees and sides were fresh and tasty. Depending on timing parking can be a little tricky, so be prepared.
Love the place! Great food and service.
Food was GOOD! Dumplings were large. Service was kind of scattered and they forgot part of my order but I was so full by then it didnt matter.
Would go again.
If you're looking for a relaxing Chinese fusion restaurant with with aesthetic atmosphere this place is a must! The staff is incredible and super attentive, Nick, Lauren, Anthony and Jacky were amazing and made me feel welcome. Steamy Piggy is a great way to expand your pallet and not break your piggy bank!
The food was delicious and not super expensive, very nice atmosphere!
Came in Friday night. First time trying the Dan Dan noodles. Not a fan, haven’t tried the other dishes. But so far spicy wontons are by far my favorite!
I was so excited to try this place. The menu looks delicious. But everything was just average. There was hardly any soup in the soup dumplings. The beer and "cold" sake were warm. There are too many excellent restaurants in the area to waste time on this one again.
Everybody has different taste, they might like it, but us that will be the last time we will eat there.
So delicious! The dumplings - especially the rainbow sampler, were scrumptious!!! Service was attentive and just the right level of checking in. Our water glasses stayed full. Sesame balls were a hit and the sweet bean buns were also great!
Went back for a second day in a row. Excellent tonkatsu and dumplings
Their food is more creative than traditional. The pork belly is way too sweet for my taste. The rainbow dumplings are interesting.
Loved everything we had... bulgogi bao, spicy wontons, scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, sesame balls. Waiter was excellent!!!
Honestly the best ramen I’ve ever had. The dumplings were great too. Definitely would go back.
