Creative and interesting menu. Very good food but limited and small quantity.
The menu was insanely tasty!!! Peter was a rockstar server! Overall 10/10 great work SBP team!!!
This might be the best meal I ever had. It's definitely right up there. Very creative cooking. Delicious and interesting.
Espectacular lugar necesita estrella Michelin , muy agradable y la comida deliciosa
Second time going here and the food is always delicious. They aren't doing the dimsum style service (because of covid) so that element is missing, but still worth it! We took my aunt who is a total foodie and she loved every bite!
We love State Bird Provisions! They've done a great job of adapting to post-pandemic dining, but we hope they bring the dim-sum style carts soon.
Impeccable service and a fun place. I’m not sure the food - we had 11 dishes total - is in the same league as, say, Birddog. It was fine but none of the dishes really wowed us (nothing was ‘bad’ either!). It’s pricey which is fine but we had expected a bit more of the dishes being memorable. Generally speaking the appetizers were the star.
Incredible food and service all around. Don’t currently have liquor, but great wine and beer selection.
Bucket list experience for us before leaving the Bay Area. Favorite dishes were the pork belly, corn mochi and oxtails! Skip the duck liver mousse and dare I say it, the state bird. Both were somewhat forgettable amidst the rest of the fantastic dishes.
Best service, amazing plates - especially the squid salad, the state bird, the sourdough pancakes - amazing wine list!
Delicious small plated food. Great atmosphere! Definitely recommend.
Loved it, the food was brilliant as always (while the food isn't served dim-sum style the menu is still full of gems) and the outdoor seating set up was great (nice lighting and good use of heating).
I have been to state bird many times and loved it every time but last night was a true disappointment- the service was extremely lacking, the food was very inconsistent and the pacing of the dishes was a mess. Hoping this was a one time mix up.
We ordered the below food:
yuba & shiitake ‘inari’, farro, quinoa & salted plum dressing - 3/5
steamed egg tofu, sungold tomatoes & garlic-chile oil - 3/5
black sesame duck confit dumpling 2 pc - 5/5
smoked trout chip’n’dip - 4/5
melon & cucumber ricotta salata, pepitas & plum ‘chamoy’ - 5/5
summer squash pistachio sambal, fried shallot & basils - 5/5
snap peas & beets cashews, togarashi & wasabi - 5/5
shrimp toast curry aioli, celery & serrano chile - 3/5
garlic fry bread burrata, 7-pepper spice, tomatillo & peaches - 2/5
july ‘cover bird’ konkan spiced quail, cucumbers & avocado-mint chutney - 3/5
sichuan pepper fried rice ‘a la plancha’ soft tofu & pole beans 24 - 2/5
strawberry mousse roll cake, chamomile milk chocolate sauce, candied sesame 4/5
blueberry peach cobbler, walnut biscuit, white chocolate wasabi cream 4/5
The server was friendly, however after spending over $500 on our meal we were rushed out of the restaurant. Overall they rushed us with the dishes and asked us to leave as another party was waiting for the table. I have never experienced that at a Michelin star restaurant.
Fantastic venue. Great food and great service. This is one of the better places I will take friends and family to for special occasion.
I always have a great experience here! The food is always amazing and the service is superb.
We enjoyed each and every dish, from the old standard State Bird with Provisions, to the innovative corn mochi with Fresno chilies, the superb trout collar and tail special, and my personal favorite, Yuba alla Amatriciana. The service was excellent and the entire team was very attentive. The meal service was also exceptionally well-paced. The French-pressed coffee provided a perfect ending to our wonderful meal. My only regret was not taking a photo of our bottle of sake, which provided the perfect complement to our meal.
The service was excellent and the ambiance was fun and energetic. In case you don't read all of this, the bottom line is that I would not choose to eat here again. Good dishes: oysters, dumplings and corn mochi. Out of 9 dishes, these are the only 3 I enjoyed. The burrata came with deep fried bread that you couldn't cut or chew. It had Indian spices on it that do not go with Italian burrata (the burrata itself and stone fruit that accompanied it were great). The staff was nice enough to comp this for us since the bread was inedible. The ox tails were ok, but the fried tofu on the same platter was utterly bland. Their signature dish, deep fried quail, was too heavily breaded and almost over cooked, however the real issue with this dish was the semi-coagulated bone broth that the quail sat in. It was a brown, semi-gelatenous puddle and was completely off-putting to the eye. Lastly, we were celebrating a birthday and there was no acknowledgement of our special occasion at all. With all the places to eat in the city, I would put this towards the bottom of my list.
Food was amazing!! Great overall experience and I can’t say enough good things about our server, Allison. Her recommendations were spot on - don’t miss the duck liver mousse!
What a great dinner!
Seating / experience could be more intimate. Tables are wide and the single tables in the middle of the room without the option of moving chairs to sit closer is pretty uncomfortable. Lots of flat surfaces make it loud and hard to hear. So the vibes is less energetic / lively and more cacophonous. Really too bad given how well considered the food and service is. You dont even need an experience designer - just use intimacy / connect as a lens and you will see easy ways to address. This is one of my favorite restaurants which is why I’m sharing this in depth feedback!
Our favorite restaurant! Always amazing service and incredible food!
I'd been wanting to try this place since they first opened. Finally got the chance after they reopened after Covid.
I made reservations the second they became available. So a tip to the hungry traveler, be patient and get a reservation. I booked for 5pm, right when they open and we were seated right away.
The service is fantastic. I think everyone on the team stopped by our table at least once. Our primary server was obviously very busy but took her time to walk us through how things work, how the menu is setup and made some personal recommendations.
We left the order of the dishes up to her and she was a maestro and coursing things out for us. Started with fresh and spicy, then towards heartier dishes. Building up to the grand finale, the specialty quail.
She recommended 3 items each but we were really hungry, having saved our appetites just for this dinner. So we ordered and split a total of 9 items which was perfect. I think 3 each would be a little light for dinner.
Dining room is simple but pleasant. The open kitchen where you can watch the treasures being made and plates was a nice design feature. Service was excellent.
I'm not a vegetarian but I'd say half the dishes we ordered were all vegetables. And they were incredible. Love this place, we'll be back.
One of our best restaurant evenings anywhere anytime. Amazing food and dining experience. Deserves the Michelin and James Beard awards and reviews. Unbelievably unique dishes and fine dining without pretense. Wine pairings were superb and matched the originality of the menu. Staff is extraordinarily thoughtful, helpful and friendly.
Amazing food, can't wait until they start the dim sum service again.
Everything about this place is exceptional. A culinary delight! Definitely recommend ordering a variety of the small plates. Wonderful experience!
Amazing Michelle star worthy dishes.
Totally worth the hype. Every dishes are so pleasantly surprised with the explosive flavor between each dish. Each flavor enhance our tastebud with satisfied.
We wanted to try all dishes since it’s served tapas style, small plates to try and share.
Book in advance 1 month ahead bc this place is packed!
The staff is wonderful and really guided us to the best dining experience. Thank you!
Outdoor area was very well done. Great setting. Food was fantastic and service was excellent. Always a great time
Beer and Wine only. The decor is very plain, uninteresting. Staff is very casual, but knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly. The food is downright amazing! Definitely worth a trip.
Amazing as always.
Every single dish we had was quite incredible! Mostly small dish tapas style. the sweet corn mochi with creamy cilantro sauce was scrumptious. Outdoor table with heater lamp worked well - luckily not a windy evening. Service was friendly and not pretentious! Superb dining experience. Can't wait to go again!!!
Everything was SPECTACULAR! The staff takes so much pride in what they do. Every attention to detail is made. We got to sit up at the “bar” watch the chefs prepare each dish. Left me in awe. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience highly recommend their corn mochi dish
We had an amazing experience. They handled our food restrictions and preferences seamlessly. Both the food and service were out of this world!
Everything was as great as before. They did better job with squid salad. The only one dish I wish they did better is the ice cream sandwich. I loved the chocolate ice cream sandwich so much . They changed the menu yesterday. The new lemon ice cream sandwich lacked a little bit contrast. The taste was ok for me. Other than that , I really enjoyed eating there and hanging out with friends there. I will definitely go there again.
Highlights were definitely the salads, apps and desserts. Their namesake dish was just okay, the “provisions” were just sliced white onion and parmesan in a sauce, was expecting something more thoughtful. Quail was a little dry.
Salads and desserts were fantastic though. Fresh ingredients, great presentation and delicious.
Everything as expected, plus plus. A pleasure to dine here, truly everything ordered (8items for 2ppl) was a delight to consume.
Everything was delicious. We ate in outside park let. It was quieter than inside.
