State Bird is renowned for a reason. The service was impeccable as was the food - every dish we selected was phenomenal and if I had more room in my belly I would have wanted to try everything! Great for groups to get to try more things, but just as wonderful for a date night.

Exquisite small plates that are customizable (i.e. we asked for two without the sauce). The squash mochi entree with vegetables and broth is a sublime plate of textures and subtle flavors. Deserts are awesome. Be back soon.

Far too loud - we had an unpleasant time because we couldn’t hear each other or the servers. They had to shout to tell us what was in each meal, and lean down to hear us. It detracted from the amazing food.

The hype is real. This place has some of the most amazing food I’ve ever tasted, combinations I would never imagine. The flavors are so refined and elegant that you cannot stop eating. It does help that the portions from the cart style services just right for two people. The ambience is a little different than I’d have expected. We were seated at a table for two right next two another table for two, almost like we were dining with them. It becomes harder to have a private conversation that way. So be prepared for it. But, the food helps to forgive any other shortcomings. If you get a reservation here, don’t think twice, just book that table!

Great food at affordable price points. Would come back again and again. Generally you can’t go wrong with anything here. Quail was good but not mind blowing so each to their own - I’d still try it though! Writing this makes me feel hungry honestly.

From the South Bay. We returned to SBP after a too long hiatus (COVID, city turning undesirable for visiting eg crime, car break-ins (4 times in 2 years), general blight, homelessness, etc) and it as fantastic as when we regularly visited since their opening. Food, service and people are super. And I didn't get my car broke into! :-)

Enjoyed the delicious and surprise food selections traveling by, inspiring and fun. We didn’t order additional food from the menus since the small dishes came fast - nearly too fast-even before we had drinks. There is not much privacy, everything is packed and staffed to the max. And since the restaurant was fully booked, the noise level was quite high. Staff was friendly and responsive to our needs, but that changed when our time was up and we were asked to leave, we we were already paying, that was a bit underwhelming.

Great experience, and the food was done excellently. The only thing that I tried that I wasn't a fan of was the oyster dish. It was done well, I just didnt like it but that doesn't mean it wasn't good or that you wont like it. Just my preference, I knew I was taking a risk when I asked for it. The State bird was awesome and an unexpected stand out for me was the "world peace" shot at the end.

Outstand creative food service. A little unsure what to expect with "menu items" mixed with items served Dim Sum - style, from a cart, as they came out of the kitchen. As a result we ended up with too much food - but, as I said, the food was outstanding and the staff was very helpful.

No one will read this, but here goes. When I went to SBP pre-COVID, it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Tonight, I experienced almost the complete opposite. - I’ve dined at my fair share of top-rated restaurants and in my experience, most times a solo diner = automatic bias and reduced quality of service because I don’t spend as much - I requested a bar seat in the reservation notes which seemed to be completely ignored because they put me at a table - I had to wait around 25 minutes for my “table to be ready” even though I had a reservation, whereas other large parties were seated immediately even though I came in before them - I feel like I was ignored by my waitress for the majority of my meal due to her having too many large parties, she made no attempt to delegate until I was basically done eating - My waitress made almost 0 small talk besides asking me how my food was, but it looked like she was having a great time giving speeches to other large parties (even asking about someone’s day is totally fine; maybe I need to borrow a baby, a dog, or some hot frat guys next time) - My dessert was dropped off by a different waiter completely and then it seemed like they ran away in a big hurry - There needs to be a way to opt out of the dim sum options entirely instead of saying “no thank you” 50 times Could not pay my check fast enough.

This is my 3rd time eating at State Bird Provisions. I wish i could say it was a great time but unfortunately i left feeling annoyed and disappointed. The dinner felt less like an experience and more like a transaction. From the beginning the waiter rushed us on ordering drinks. When he did introduce himself to the table he walked away with no opportunity to ask questions about the food, the operational aspects, or any recommendations at all. The waiter knew it was a celebratory dinner for a birthday, and when we placed an order for two deserts we didn’t even get a candle in it. They seriously did nothing. Meanwhile we saw another table which got a candle in their desert for a birthday nearby. Additionally, we placed an order for food that did not come for over half our dinner time (20 minutes). Considering we were hustled in and out within 45 minutes, they missed an order, no candle for the birthday — it was horrible service. I would expect better from a Michelin Star restaurant. Im unsure if i would go back now.

Unable to accommodate dietary restrictions. When the waiter learned one of our party was vegan, our table felt like less of a priority. He initially told us he could build a vegan alternative menu, but never actually did and never followed up on what the chef might be preparing. I suspect the answer he got from the chef was "no" and he felt sheepish relaying that to us, if I'm being generous. We had to raise our hand to get his attention because he didn't visit our table. The food we were served was excellent though and it was a busy night, nevertheless not up to the standard of a Michelin starred restaurant with the reputation of State Bird Provisions. In the future, I would call in advance to be sure they can accommodate guests with special dietary needs.
