We happened upon Southern Cut for breakfast a couple of weeks ago and returned the following week. Service was excellent, and the smell of smoked meats intoxicating. We've had several of the breakfast choices, including their rendition of Eggs Benedict (chicken was outstanding), omelets, pancakes and french toast. I like a well marbled brisket and theirs is on the lean side but the chicken and pork are outstanding. The cheese grits were really good and portion was generous. My only complaint was the size of a diet coke. They serve the mini bottles which are cute, but seriously, if you want a diet coke you want more than 4 oz.
We're from Wisconsin and drove to Chicago for the evening. Found Southern Cut online and their menu drew us in. Went in to have dinner for our anniversary. I had the "Mac Daddy". It was mouth watering. Great portions. Fast service. Exceptional staff. It turns out that they also serve breakfast. We went back for round two and were not disappointing. The Brisket is a must try. Very pleased with our visit. Great prices!!!
Brisket was very dry and chewy, did not taste good either.
Fries were soggy and marginal.
Tacos were acceptable but not great.
Our waiter, Chris was wonderful. Explained the menu and options and attentive throughout our meal. Food was delicious.
Terrific food! Great service even when busy and the ambiance is wonderful! This is our second time and we will return often.
Could have been an off night, but this was a disappointing experience - especially since Southern Cut is two blocks from my building. Service was slow throughout, and the place wasn't very busy. My friend ordered a lemon drop martini and I ordered a beer; she grimaced when she tasted it, so I took a sip and it was bad - I actually thought I tasted olive brine. Sure enough, she sent it back and the waitress told us the bartender used olive brine instead of lemon juice by mistake - oops! The ribs were okay, not much above room temperature and nothing special about the seasoning. The four hot sauces on the table didn't add much and the "spicy" version featured more molasses than spice. Macaroni and cheese had little flavor and was barely coated. The jalapeno cornbread with maple bacon butter was probably the highlight of the night, though we had to ask for extra butter twice - they serve a tiny ramekin with a 6" skillet of cornbread. All in all, I really hoped for more from Southern Cut.
Southern Cut was a nice casual spot for dinner. The beet salad was delicious. Friend had the fish and chips, it was a huge portion. BBQ sliders were, too. Mac and cheese side dish was good to share. Waiter was busy but attentive enough. Didn't feel pressured to turn the table. All in all was a nice experience.
I don’t understand how this is “championship” BBQ. I’ve had better BBQ many places. Very little hint of smoke flavor. I was very disappointed for the price.
Just meh. The food was good, but not particularly special. The staff was distant and seemed like they wanted to be somewhere else. And it's just irritating that a BBQ place would run out of wet naps. I had lunch here earlier and was given a warm, wet towel after my.meal. On my second visit, the waiter said they were out of towels.
This was such a great dining experience. Everything was perfect, from being seated, to getting excellent service, to eating the delicious food. It was so good. My daughter had the breakfast tacos, and I had the combo Benedict. My daughter also had a wonderful fancy Mimosa. Our waitress was terrific! I can't wait to return to Chicago to eat at this restaurant again!
Yummy chow. Will return. Great wait staff. Super.
Great after theater for nicely done cocktails and some great BBQ meats and more.
Love it each and every time I am there! I absolutely love their doors!
What a disappointment! Waited 5 min to be recognized as a waiting patron at the door. The waiter wasn't interested in customers. Not only was the food lukewarm but my martini was as well.
Yummy food delicious bbq with great outdoor seating
We enjoyed the food from the beef brisket nachos to the sandwiches to the sides (corn bread and beans). Even the iced tea was perfectly done and refills were quick! Service was great - friendly and accommodating without hovering. Would love to go back again and try some of the 'non-barbecue' entrees like Chicken Pot Pie and Fish and Chips! Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Good place for bbq but generally just average. In the Gold Coast and expected much more.
The food was delicious, as expected. The atmosphere was pleasant, and not loud. The service was spotty, but not bad.
We came in with a big reservation after our original plans fell through. They were so accommodating and helpful! Noreen, Joel and Chris could not have been nicer. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect! They had a wide variety of foods and the drinks were on point. Thank you all for your help and we will all be back soon!!
The staff were very nice, patient and accomodating even with 2 loud restless kids. They were very quick to bring out the kids food/drinks early on which was very appreciated.
Pretty underwhelming restaurant. I did not realize this when I booked but it is actually part of the Hilton Hotel. The food was just ok. Plenty of quantity but lacking any sort of unique flavor. The BBQ sauces were also lacking excitement. The develed eggs appetizer were the highlight, but I came for BBQ and was disappointed. I won't be back.
Chili and baby back ribs were perfect
I really enjoyed dining at Southern Cut. The food was excellent and our server was great. I would definitely come back to Southern Cut.
Not a great experience at this place. First, my husband ordered a whiskey from the menu and twice they came back to say the bar did not have what was on the menu. These were not rare products or the most expensive on the menu. Just go to the store (these products are at every liquor store in town) or take them off the menu.
We ordered ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Ribs very good, pulled pork good, brisket was awful - fatty, tough and flavorless. Told the host and they replaced it with more lean pieces but would not order it again.
I wanted to like this place but there are better options for BBQ in the city.
Southern Cut will be on our family’s food stop every time we’re in Chicago! Great place to dine. The service was so so but the food made up for it.
Wait staff was outstanding as was the pulled oork
Excellent service. Food was good
Our inept waiter impacted our experience to a restaurant that I have frequented in the past with positive experiences. He had to be prompted numerous times that we were ready to order , he got my order wrong and never asked how the meal was,?whether we needed anything else . In fairness, my nephew Loved his barbeque omelette and jalapeño sausage . My Brisket hash was beyond awful and had no resemblance to that dish
Great food, prompt attentive service. We definitely will be back.
It’s our first time in Chicago and we’re staying at the John Hancock which is across the street. My daughter and I had a great dinning experience! The service was great and the food was amazing. We shared the full rack of ribs and also the corn bread appetizer, both are must haves!
Flavors were a bit underwhelming, had higher expectations
There are only a few good seats in the restaurant. The lack privacy by the door and between the tables is challenging.
Excellent service! Clean, comfortable and reasonably priced menu. Fantastic ribs! Highly recommend!
Kaltes Essen meiner Frau wurde sofort neu gebracht und später nicht berechnet👍
Service, experience, food, hospitality was very good. We really wanted the BBQ menu which we learned after being seated was not available for another hour, not till 12N. So we were disappointed not being able to have BBQ which is why we went here for Fathers Day. The food we did partake of was really good and the staff accommodated us as best they could despite the menu availability issue. Suggesting additional clarity on the web site as to when BBQ is actually available.
We had a delicious meal at Southern Cut Barbeque! Great ambience and great service. We enjoyed the sliders, brisket and mac and cheese. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy their meals too. Portions were good sized and could be shared depending on how hungry everyone is or wants to try different things. Overall great find!
The location and environment are wonderful. The food, on the other hand, is not good. Nothing is seasoned, and you can get barbecue somewhere else!
Dinner with a friend
Great food, was very quiet on a Sunday early afternoon. Service was a little slow/average considering it was not very busy at the time. Waiter did not understand Tito's Vodka and Lemonade, typical summer drink!
