If you dine out often (and we do) you begin to notice certain “food patterns.” There’s “not good,” “good,” and “very good.” And “beyond good” is where South of Nick’s in Laguna Beach, California, comes into play. This downtown Laguna location on PCH is only a few blocks from its “sister” location, Nick’s, though the menus and cuisine are completely different. And lucky us, we also had “Mikayla” at our table. She works perfectly paced, which is always a good thing. She also genuinely cares about her customers, and it shows. I keep harping on this in my reviews: You can’t train people to “like” customers. It’s a “behavior,” and not something you can “learn.” “Mikayla” is the real deal. FOOD & AMBIANCE: So, here we go: thanks to “Mikayla’s” recommendation we ordered the trio of Fish Tacos (Halibut no less!) which were perfectly crusted on the surface yet delicate and sumptuous on the inside. Don’t hesitate to order these. Absolutely wonderful. The tacos came with some very tasty black beans. We also had a wonderfully prepared Vanilla Flan for dessert, which was easily sharable. South of Nick’s has a semi-elegant ambiance, both casual and dressy, and a hustling, ultra friendly vibe. It can get quite loud in the dining room so if you’re looking for a “quiet” dinner this might not be right for you. However, if you’re up for a good time combined with outstanding food and service you’ll feel right at home. It’s an easy menu to navigate. PRICES: About $100 for the two of us, but this included two well-made Margaritas. I’ll stop here. I could go on and on. We’ll be returning for sure! Thanks “Mikayla” for an outstanding evening!

Nice experience though the food was not quite as good as the San Clemente location. Very noisy at 6:30 PM on a Tuesday. By the time we left, we could barely talk to each other.

Wonderful waiter named Jacob who was sincerely caring and checking on our happiness constantly. Sweet Manager took our payment asking if we were happy with the food and service - which we said was, “Perfect!” .. and it is. We’re locals who recommend THIS restaurant - and we return frequently to enjoy it ourselves.

Great time celebrating our marriage anniversary. This restaurant had beautiful views along with delicious food and drinks. Our server Alma took great care of us. We had a reservation on a busy Saturday night and still had to wait about 20 min for our table; the walk-in wait for a table was 3 hours. You can order drinks while you wait. Our experience was worth the hype. Thank you for a special night!

Our favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach. Beautiful views and amazing food. Bryce was our server and he was excellent. Great attention to detail, friendly, and attentive. Summer is here, so get your reservations in early.

First time at South of Nicks and I was so impressed with everything about it! Beautiful view, excellent cucumber martini, excellent chips, salsa & guac and 4 taco sampler was outstanding too! Friendly service and fun overall vibe!
