This place is a little diamond! We absolutely loved it! Our waiter was awesome and gave us a lot of information about the wines (3 of us had the wine pairing option). The food was really innovative with unusual ingredients. It's not cheap and possibly not great for kids but for our party it was excellent.
Food was interesting, very well thought out and delicious. It was well worth the money!
This amazing little restaurant off the path but not far; really delivered on food, experience and atmosphere.
Vegan pasta was quite bland; however, the server was kind to try and have the pasta remade, though, unfortunately, the second time around was no different. The wedge salad was STELLAR.
Excellent Meal- we followed our server’s recommendations and certainly did not regret it— we finished with the beet and cheesecake deserts- also great decisions
The meal was a symphony of taste. The sweet & salty combinations just danced in our mouths. The simplicity of the setting against the exquisite attention to detail is incredible. Trace brings fresh, farm to table, artistry to Charleston. A must go!
The vegan food was amazing - but pricey. It was just a few blocks from our Airbnb so we gave it a try! We had the wedge salad which was amazing and the homemade pasta dish with carrot butter. My husband had the gnocchi which was a small portion but delicious. For dessert we had the white chocolate mousse which was yummy but quite gelatinous and not quite a mousse. Glad we came - service was fabulous. It was over $100 without the tip so would likely try a less expensive place next. If you’re vegan - certainly out it in your list - and if you’re with non-vegan friends or family it’s perfect as they also have non-vegan food. Oh, and make a reservation as it’s quite small.
Every single plate that we tasted was prepared to perfection. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and cozy and the service was fantastic.
Couldn’t wait to come back and eat here again, didn’t disappoint
Unique menu, great service and tasty food at this small, local restaurant. Noise level was extremely high due to a very loud party next to us. Dining room could benefit from some noise-dampening furnishings.
Great food. Perfect service.
We enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menu at the bar. The food, service and creativity of ingredients and pairings were all excellent! Beets for dessert? Truly amazing!
Portions small. Otherwise the food was very good. Ambiance a little cold
EAT HERE! Best experience dining and eating in my life! First timer to Charleston for my besties wedding. A group of us flew in and wanted to have dinner and a night out before we flew back home. Found this gem, and booked for 6, but needed 8. I mentioned that in the comments when I booked online (during early hours they were closed, so couldn’t call) They called me!!! And said no problem we will make it work and they did! EVERYTHING ON THE MENU IS AMAZING. The shareable plates are so good get multiples, because ain’t no body sharing after they take they’re first bite. Staff was on point and accommodating, attentive. 10 out 10! (Chef’s kiss!) thanks!
Great meal. Not a bad dish. Attentive staff.
We have ventured to Sorghum & Salt numerous times and have always had a great experience. The menu is constantly changing and so unique that it is always a different but delicious experience. If you are a foodie and like to try new and interesting dishes, we definitely recommend.
The restaurant is cute. The service was very good. The food was ok, needed some more flavors. The carrots came highly recommended and they were a little chewy. The ricotta was one of the best things on the menu. I would say that it is best for vegans.
I did crave some good bread with my meal but they don't serve any. Other than that it was excellent, from the vegetarian pasta to the pork dish and the shrimp dish.
The whole place had a really neat environment, but the food was what really stood out. Everything we tried tasted so amazing! Since one of us is vegan, we were very pleased, too, with the extensive and delicious vegan menu.
Fabulous and unusual. Love the food and the vibe of the place.
The food was incredible. We sat at the bar and got to watch the chefs cook. The food was all local and all of the servers were very knowledgeable about the food and wine choices.
By far the best meal we had in Charleston. The tasting menu was amazing!
The vibe, the owner, the food, the execution, the timing, the complexities of flavor, the balance and synergy - all perfectly orchestrated to what I feel was one of the best dining experiences - period.
We had a wonderful experience at sorghum and salt. We loved the vibes of this more intimate restaurant. Our waiter was fabulous and the food was was outstanding.
Very unusual flavor combinations! So delicious!!!
All the food was fresh and delicious!
Perfect night from the time we walked in the door until they dragged us out. Food and service was outstanding.
Loved it. Best seats in the house over looking the kitchen.
Creative dishes that were all delicious with a cozy atmosphere.
Very good food and service. Would recommend but people should know it is not full bar. Beer and wine only
Visiting Charleston and looking for a local, creative food experience. This was everything we were looking for. We had the tasting menu and the server Trevor was outstanding on knowledge of the food and friendly service. Food was unique and delicious. Good wine pairings too.
Food and service both great. Chef’s tasting menu was varied and excellent. Highly recommended.
Parking was a bit hard but doable, the portions where a great size. We did the four course option and enjoyed most of the dishes. They are very unique items which appeal to some people and not to others. I enjoyed the food, but if I visited again I would try another place (since there are so many I want to try). Our server was amazing and very intune to what we needed and when.
One of my favorite dinners in Charleston so far. The food was fresh and creative but delicious.
Even though we were unfamiliar with some of the ingredients, our party felt both curious and adventurous to try a variety of dishes on the menu and we’re pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Everything about each dish was pure enjoyment from the presentation to the taste. Just happened upon this restaurant while visiting earlier in the week with another group that also thoroughly enjoyed it. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone visiting Charleston!
The food at Sorghum and Salt is excellent!!!!
My favorite restaurant experience of my life so far. Simply put this was amazing. The ambiance was so fun. The food was wonderful. Honestly not a single boring thing on the menu. Everything is locally sourced and made fresh and when ordered. Each bite was the perfect amount of flavors. The service was friendly and quick and like a machine it was so efficient. Whoever trained and runs the staff know what they are doing for sure. Loved it. If you are a boring eater who only likes things plain and bland with no flavor then skip. Otherwise give it a try.
Very creative food. Always excellent. My only concern was how packed the place was and no one wearing masks
LOVED it. We were sat at the bar and were able to experience the chef's tasting menu. Definitely ask for recs on wine pairing, everything was so great. Heirloom tomato was especially memorable.
Off the beaten track but a nice intimate dining experience. Our waiter was friendly helpful and our food came out at a nice pace.
Overall it was a great experience and stretched the palette of a few in our party. We loved the peach dish and the chef in our group named the rainbow carrot dish as his favorite. The shrimp dish had an interesting flavor profile that got mixed reviews. The gnocchi, short rib and ricotta dishes were as good as advertised.
The beer and wine selection was a little limited. Our guys were beer drinkers and didn’t love the options or their selections. Might be nice to throw a Bud or fat tire or the like in as a choice.
The only negative for me at the end of the experience was the cost. Everything had a $13-18 price, which felt ok for the small plates (though $13 is a but steep for 4 triangular slices of focaccia bread regardless of what it served with). The short rib “large plate” was $31. That included four 1/4 inch thick slices of short rib, 10-12 small pieces of potato and a delicious sauce. In no way did this justify the description of “large” or a $31 price tag. At the end of the day, we had ordered 8 small or shared plates and 2 large plates, spent $200 on food and no-one in our party of 5 felt like they’d had a full meal. Just making the short rib a truly” large plate” would have gone a long way.
I would recommend the restaurant enthusiastically but would caution people not to go in too hungry. I think I’ll go back, but will have more realistic expectations for what we’ll get- a really interesting and delicious dining experience
